Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC.

Didn’t love this book, thought it was an okay read with some cute moments. It was quick and easy.

I thought I would fall in love with this book. It had all the makings of a fun, quick read. While it mostly held true to those things, it fell flat in some aspects which I thought the author would've easily managed.

In the author's note we are informed that this couple lives in a town in which magical occurrences are not out of the norm, but even with that, the automatic acceptance of another voice in your head was strange. Even in a magical world, at least a brief moment of questioning is/can be normal. I mean, it's a magical word, another's voice could imply SO many things. There was room for apprehension in this love story, and it was hard to get past its absence.

Aside from my previous point, this was enjoyable. It was sweet and it made my heart warm, which is what a good romance can do. Just go into this with the understanding that leaving logic outside is okay.

"The Voice Inside Your Head" by Dani McLean is a captivating love story that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. The story follows two strangers, Beau and April, who are connected through a telepathic link that they don't understand but can't ignore.

The chemistry between Beau and April is palpable, and their conversations are witty, charming, and heartfelt. They open up to each other in ways they never have with anyone else, and their connection deepens with each passing day. But their telepathic link also comes with its share of challenges, as they struggle to reconcile the person they know inside their heads with the reality of who they are.

The author does an excellent job of capturing the essence of the two main characters and their internal struggles. Beau is torn between his family's expectations and his own desires, while April is trapped in her own world of data analysis and social isolation. Their telepathic link becomes a lifeline for both of them, and it's clear that they need each other to survive.

The book is beautifully written, with vivid descriptions of the bustling city of New York, where the story is set. The pacing is perfect, and the tension builds steadily as Beau and April's relationship evolves. The ending is satisfying and heartwarming, leaving the reader with a sense of hope and fulfillment.

Overall, "The Voice Inside Your Head" is a delightful read that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. It's a story about finding love in unexpected places, and about the power of connection, even when it's all in your head. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance novel with a twist.

This is a book in the vein of early 2000s comedy and rom-com movies, where there is no explanation for the supernatural events befalling the normie protagonists, and the consumer doesn't expect one either. This should be fun! So how did this book about two career-driven hotties who somehow end up hearing each other's voices without ever meeting (I gueeeeess you can call this telepathy in the widest sense) end up being this boring? Low-stake love stories just aren't for me, I know that, but I did expect some more pazazz from a premise like this one. The smut was... okay. There could have been some more creativity here, and the language disparity between the sensitive, boundary-respecting dialogues (a bit much imo) and the dirty-talk was once again not for me. McLean's writing sounds otherwise promising, so I would give her another chance. Still, I'm glad this was only a novella.

This is a super cute and sweet novella.

Short and not terribly realistic. In the intro you’re asked to “believe in anything you want as long as it makes you happy.” Allowing for that suspension of disbelief this absolutely succeeds in what it sets out to do. A meant to be sort of story where the pairing is inevitable.

I appreciate the self awareness of this approach, the development and realism are baseline, but with the length and that willingness to let go of the details and just trust that this is a modern fairytale, I did manage to enjoy and buy into the love story.

A bite sized feel good book

Was very excited to receive an arc for this book, the summary of the main love interests being able to have conversation through their minds had me very interested. It was very short and very romcom-y so i had a fun time and if you enjoy fast-passed books, I feel you’ll enjoy this book. I don’t work well with third-person type books but i found myself enjoying this one.

I loved April & Beau, I loved their first meeting, I loved their banter, I loved their mutual understanding for one another and I loved when one of them would randomly start talking to the other while they were with another person, it just made me giggle.

This book works well as a novella but I wish it was a bit longer to develop their story more. It would’ve been great if 100 more pages were added to go further into Beau’s relationship with his dad, April’s relationship with her mom and her issues with relationships and marriage/kids, plus I just wanted more scenes with April and Beau after they met face to face.

Thank you Netgalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I usually stay away from psychic connections in romances, but the blurb was cute and promising.

Beau and April begin to hear each other's voices in their heads, they agree to keep the relationship platonic and anonymous and casual.

However, their relationship turns flirty and they remain unsure if the reality will match up to the fantasy.

The characters drive the plot forward. The conflict is a bit flat, but you genuinely root for the characters. The dialogue could have been better at certain points of the story.

The relationship was cute, and the ending was really satisfying due to the pacing.

I am looking forward to the author's next works.

Thanks to NetGalley to the ARC, and the publisher for the copy.

This was such a cute read!

We follow Beau and April who, through mysterious circumstances are able to communicate with each other without having met before. Through the many conversations they have, they grow closer, encourage each other and ultimately fall in love.

I love that this story was kept short and that it was such a fast paced story. I was kept entertained throughout and devoured this book in one seating. I would personally say that this was probably a novella and a very beautifully written one!

You may be asking yourself “why the 3 stars rating then?”. Only because as much as this story was sweet, it didn’t move me as much as I would have liked. It didn’t make my heart race or drop at all. It was swoon-worthy for sure, but not an emotionally charged by any means.

the dedication: For you, always remember, bravery comes in many forms. Don’t be afraid to be yourself.
FMC: April- a spreadsheet and numbers enthusiast who is sick of being set up by her mother and being told to settle down and have children. One day she realizes she is able to hear someone in her head… could this possibly be real? How can she prove it’s not all in her mind?
MMC: Beau- the sole heir to an empire he never wanted, all Beau has ever wanted was for someone to like and love him for who he is and not what he has. His dreams come true when his seemingly perfect match is dropped into his life- the only problem is he can’t see her, he’s not sure if she’s actually real, and he doesn’t know where she lives. He convinces her to continue exploring their connection as long as they keep their identities a secret and quickly realizes he needs to find out who she is.
POV: 3rd person, dual POV
HEA: yes
spice: mildly spicy, a couple short open door scenes but mostly steamy, fade-to-black, or pining scenes
TWs: death of parent, illness (not MCs), estranged families, parental pressure to have babies
standalone: yes, but part of the Movie Magic Novellas series- a series of unconnected standalone novellas that can be read in any order
final thoughts: the idea for this story was 10/10, the execution was 8/10. I LOVED IT and I needed more. I was also hoping for the same amount of spice when the couple was together as it was when they were only communicating in their minds. Definitely worth the read and so cute but could absolutely expand further into their stories, future, connection, everything!

Waking up a day and just having someone else in your mind has to be one of the scariest and most amazing things that could happen.

April and Beau work in the same company, but they don't know each other. Out of nowhere they started to listen each other in their heads and they have no idea who the other person is. Both of them want to keep their identities a secret so they decided to keep that to themselves and just get to know each other!

This was a cute story, 2 people coming together and facing their fears! really good read!

I absolutely loved this. It was such a unique premise - they can talk to each other through their minds and know nothing about each other, but just fall in love. I loved it! I'll definitely be reading more from Dani McLean. Plus the shower scene was A++

I wasn't all that sure of what to expect from the story if I must be completely honest. Although it was rather addictive by the last third of the book I do wish it would had had a faster pace in the first part specially since it's the one reason I honestly questioned myself if I should DNF it.

Overall, a sweet short contemporary romance to enjoy in one sitting.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the chance of reading the e-arc

This book was a bit different for me to read. It had a really interesting way of the main characters communicating telepathically. This definitely brought about some laugh out loud moments for me as a reader. Overall, I appreciated how this book used the characters special ability to bring about change in their lives that likely wouldn't have happened should they have been talking in person.

3.5

ESP/ENG

“Hi Beau. I´m April.”

Well, I liked this story more than the other two. It was more addictive towards the end, although at the beginning I did read more slowly because it was a little difficult to get into it. However, I enjoyed it a lot.

Beau is a millionaire man who must fulfill his father's expectations to take over his family's company, although taking over is the last thing he wants to do. April is a normal woman who is a workaholic and is also under pressure from her mother to start a family, which she doesn't want. Both different, but just want to do what they want without their families intervening (they both lack better communication with their families). One night, by chance they begin to hear each other's voices and start to form a relationship of friendship, then something casual, until in the end it turns into love.

It's a short, simple story with no drama in between. You may feel that their feelings are a little fast, but you must keep in mind that the story is very short and therefore the development that we find in others, is not here. With that in mind, you won't encounter any problems.

I liked the concept that they could hear their voices, sometimes they heard them in very funny situations and that made me laugh.

The book is the third in a series in which you can read each one independently.

A Missing Connection is a totally fun romcom novella for anyone looking for a quick romance fix.

April and Beau don't know each other, but they do have something in common: they're lonely. So even though having the others' voice suddenly appear in their head should be invasive, they find themselves becoming fast friends, communicating with each other telepathically about everything from work, to cooking, to their families. But when they start to fall for each other, they have to decide if the risk of themselves is worth it for the reward of potential love.

I thought A Missing Connection was a really fun read! As a novella, it can easily be read in an afternoon when you are just in the mood for a romance. I thought it really had an appropriate amount of depth for the time we got to spend with the characters, and I really enjoy the way McLean describes oh-so-nebulous feelings like love and longing. I would totally recommend it if you are looking for a romance novella.

A Missing Connection (eARC) — 3 ⭐️

𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: If you’re looking for a sweet, short romance story, this one might be for you. It has a little bit of magical realism, and the witty banter does not disappoint.

While the concept of the book was cute, I felt like there were many gaps within the idea, and I had so many unanswered questions. Plus, the ending felt anti-climactic.

Even though this book wasn’t my favorite, if you think this book is for you, it’s available on Kindle Unlimited, and it might be your solution to achieving your reading goals this year!

A sweet novella with an unexplained mind connection between a billionaire and a workaholic data analyst. Both trying to figure out where they fit and how to be themselves without their parents expectations.

It was a unique experience to say the least. I thought we'd get more spicy scenes especially once our mcs met. But I did love the get to know you aspect of it and the saucy factor of both enjoying themselves with the others present.

I'd read more by this author!

Thanks NetGalley :)
