All That Glitters Isn't Old by Gabby Allan is book #3 in the Whit and Whiskers Mystery series. Amateur detective Whitney Dagner is at it again. She gets involved in another murder investigation thanks to her grandmother, Goldy. I really like the main characters in this series. They work so well together. This case sure got complicated. I enjoyed the twists and turns. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is the third book in the Whit and Whiskers mystery series and I have enjoyed them all quite a bit so far. I thought the second half of this one was far better than the first half mostly because I struggled with Goldy in this one. I have really loved her in the previous books, but her insistence on Whit investigating, while holding back vital information, and ignoring any evidence that suggests her old friend did anything wrong drove me nuts. If she trusts her granddaughter to help solve crimes she needs to trust her a little. I thought the mystery itself was pretty good and I did enjoy the resolution quite a bit. Goldy’s old boyfriend and one of her oldest friends is in town for the funeral of his mother. He hopes to show a movie he has worked on to the community but before they can even finish getting ready a body appears. Whit is determined to stay out of it this time, but because her friend is bound to be the main suspect Goldy insists she investigates.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of ALL THAT GLITTERS ISNT OLD (Book 3 of the Whit and Whiskers mysteries) by Gabby Allan in exchange for an honest review. Everyone knows that Whit's nana, Goldy, is a force majeure. It surprises no one when Goldy manages to rope Whit into accompanying her to a funeral for a woman Whit had never met. This one capitulation to Goldy's iron will embroils Whit into a convoluted investigation into her grandmother's past. Digging up past scandals can be dangerous.

I enjoyed this book and like the series. I recommend this book to fans of cozy murder mysteries featuring tourism, small businesses, and Nanas with strong personalities.

Whitney Dagner has settled in to her new home and career on Catalina Island when murder strikes again! Goldy's old boyfriend from her youth returns and when his young love falls to his death from the catwalk at the local theater. Was it an accident? Or murder?

There's so much going on in this book! Goldy's old boyfriend Darren is back in town, thugs are taking over Catalina Island, there's a litterer leaving crates on the beach, and Whitney is making friends with a super-intelligent octopus.

This is a really fun series. I love the island setting and I love how Whit's shop and her family situation gives her the flexibility to run around investigating. I must also admit some bias. A few years ago I attended a virtual author event where Gabby Allen talked about the first book in this series. She was really nice and had a great sense of humor and seemed like someone who would be a lot of fun to hang out with. That's how I first got started with this series and I definitely plan to continue!

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

ALL THAT GLITTERS ISN’T OLD is the third book in the Whit and Whiskers Mystery series by Gabby Allan. Protagonist Whitney Dagner works at her family’s tourist trinket shop, Dame of the Sea, and alongside her brother taking tourists around Catalina Island on their glass-bottom boat. Having visited Catalina Island several times, I can attest that the author’s descriptive voice brings the area to life. Whitney is a fun character, and I enjoyed her breezy “voice” and her dedication to her family. Although she should probably learn to stand up to her grandmother, Goldy, once in a while. Quirky is the best word to describe Goldy, and she’s front-and-center this time around. And while she may not be the easiest person to love, she definitely adds character to the story.

The action starts early on when a car careens into a coffin during a grave-side funeral and the driver accosts the son of the deceased, Darren. Darren just so happens to have been Goldy’s long-ago boyfriend and from there, zany antics ensue. From a death resulting from falling from the catwalk of the theater, to smuggling, to a hidden cave, Whitney is pulled into the mix when her grandmother insists she get involved. The mystery is multi-faceted and kept me guessing the entire way with all the twists thrown in. If you like an island setting, quirky characters, humor, and puzzling mysteries to solve, All That Glitters Isn’t Old should be on your TBR pile!

I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Totally loved this book that's filled with twists and turns! A great cast of characters! This time Goldy's first love is accused of murder. Whit must solve this. I was surprised by the ending. Good story. Great character development. Thanks #netgalley and #Kensington for the eARC in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are mine.

Review: I really enjoyed reading this newest installment in the Whit and Whiskers mysteries series! I loved reading about Whit solving another case. I liked getting to spend time with returning characters (Her boyfriend! Her friends! Her family!), and meeting new ones as well. This book had a bit of a zany adventure feel towards the end, which was fun! Overall, I definitely recommend this series for those who haven't read it yet, and this book to those who have!

I received an e-ARC from the publisher.

Whit Danger meets the man her grandfather almost lost her grandmother to when they were younger. Turns out the man was a good friend of Goldy’s, so good that when he’s accused of murdering his boyfriend, Goldy asks Whit to find the true murderer. While Whit can’t say no to Goldy, she’s not quite sure she believes in Darren’s innocence. There’s something strange happening on the Island and Whit can’t just stand by and wait for the police to figure it out.

With family secrets, death, murder, an octopus and a cute kitty, you’ll enjoy figuring this one along side Whit and the gang. With a few suspects that have you going back and forth, you’ll be guessing right up to the end just whodunit.

A fun cozy mystery set on Catalina Island. Lots of red herrings and a merry chase to catch the killer, but was a good easy read. Would recommend.

I was totally shocked by all the twists and turns in All That Glitters Isn't Old.
Whit has a souvenir shop, she works on the family glass bottom boat, giving tours, and she also gets herself mixed up with murder investigations.
She has a spunky grandmother, Goldy, and her grandfather, Pops.
When a close friend of Goldy's returns for his mother's funeral, it's like opening a Pandora's Box, and nothing good is happening.
There's tension between Whit's grandparents, and it only gets worse when Goldy refuses to believe her first love is capable of murder.
I loved this book and was stunned by the conclusion, I had no idea how it was going to end.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of the book.

I didn’t like the first part of this book. I didn’t like that Goldie was pushing Whitney to investigate without telling her what she needed to know, that she was so adamantly defending Darren to the exclusion of everyone else.. The later part of the book was better, I thought more interesting, more action. I was surprised by the outcome of the bad guy., and Darren. #AllThatGlittersIsntOld #NetGalley
