This was a fun read. I enjoyed the characters. It was a quirky little mystery. I wish I would have done the book instead of audio. I wasn't a fan of the narrator, which makes it more difficult for me to get into and enjoy the book.

If you love Miss Fisher Mysteries like I do, then Just Murdered by Katherine Kovacic is the perfect cosy mystery for you! It's fast paced with brilliant characters, flowing dialog and an amazing plot! I finished it start to finish in six hours, I just couldn't put it down!

I kept trying to get into this book. I really wanted to like it. I'm not sure if it was the accents or if it was where I was mentally. But I just didn't convection wish this book. It's no fault on the author or the narrator. Not every book is four every person.

Once directionless Peregrine Fisher finds purpose and motivation when she learns of her aunt Phryne Fisher, the famous detective, and the Adventuresses. Based in the 1960 and inspired by a TV series, Just Murdered includes an eclectic cast of characters for the reader to learn and love. Discovering she is a natural detective, Peregrine is determined to help solve two murders that hit particularly close to home. She immerses herself into her role and ingratiates herself with the Aventuresses.

This was a light, fast paced read with a cast of amusing characters. It was a little too light for any semblance of suspense and was a bit quirky. I can see how it would easily expand into a series as It would be interesting to read other stores to learn more about the other Aventuresses. Narrator Geraldine Hakewill’s commendable narration kept the story engaging.

Just when Peregine Fisher, the niece of Miss Phryne Fisher is a little lost when she receives a invitation summoning her to Australia. It turns out that her aunt has gone missing and left instructions if anything happens to her, that she will inherit her estate and be given the opportunity to become a member of the Adventuresses’ Club. It’s a throwback mystery filled with wonderful, funny, strong women. She gets the chance to prove herself when one of the members is accused of murder. The women get busy trying to exonerate their friend, Peregone is right there. As it has been said, “never underestimate a woman named Fisher” It’s a well written book that already has me awaiting the next in the series.

This was such a different kind of mystery. I loved the setting and the timing and the whole adventure secret society angle. I'll be excited to listen to any other stories in this series.

Imagine finding out you had more family them you knew about.. Periquin finds a letter addressed for her mom.. It is an inheritance letter.

She goes to the location and finds herself in deep with a murder investigation, not just one but two.

This is a great set up for more books to come out in this series. Nice clean read

I am a huge fan of the Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries tv series and this book has moved Miss Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries series a couple of notches higher up on my plan to watch list. It was quirky and fun with a solid mystery at the centre of it. I hope that this is not a mystery taken directly from the series, since that would make the watching a little less interesting for me, but I do hope that the characters I've met here are ones that I will get to experience more of.

If you are not familiar with the Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries television series, I don't believe that will cause a problem as a reader. The story is unique and does a good job of introducing characters who would be new to you. It's been several years since I watched the original series, and I felt right at home in this new setting filled with new characters. I look forward to checking out more books by Katherine Kovacic in the future.

What a fun, adventurous read! Peregrine was a great, clever, plucky heroine! It was a fast-paced, twisty, historical, cozy mystery with a touch of wit and humor! I alternated between the audiobook and the physical book and enjoyed both! I even watched almost the entire first episode on acorn tv and enjoyed that too! I usually don’t read a lot of historical fiction especially from the 60s but this charmed me!

I have to confess at the beginning of this review that I am completely new to Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. I had no idea who any of the Adventuresses were, and the world had no appeal to me--I honestly read the description and the idea of a historical mystery in the 60s was appealing! However, I'm happy to say I was not disappointed and may now check out the full show at some point.

Peregrine Fisher is a modern girl of the 60s who is still trying to find her place in the world when she is summoned to the Adventuresses' Club, home of her late aunt, Phryne Fisher, the famous detective. Peregrine, eager to fill her aunt's famous shoes, immediately attempts to join the club and takes on a case for the Adventuresses when one of their own, designer Florence Astor, is accused of murdering one of her models. Peregrine, with help from Detective Steed and the Adventuresses, sets out to determine who would want to kill Barbie Jones, Blair's Department Store's top model. As Barbie's secrets come to light, however, it becomes clear that there were many motives behind her death. But danger is afoot, and Barbie may not be the only one who is murdered. When another body turns up in Blair's, Peregrine needs to use every skill in her arsenal to prove herself as a detective, posing as a shop girl in Blair's to sniff out the killer.

Just Murdered is a fun, fast-paced mystery with plenty of red herrings, surprising twists, and unexpected discoveries. It has a likable cast of characters, including the plucky Peregrine, a modern girl with enough grit to face down anyone, Detective Steed, the stuffy but loveable police detective, the Adventuresses, each with their own quirks, and more. I enjoyed the humor of the story as well as the dialogue between the characters--it was witty and fun. I also loved the setting--I could feel the 60s throughout the novel, especially in the descriptions of the clothing and style.

The biggest downside to this novel was that the characters, as likable as they were, were largely shallow. They were caricatures--the plucky feminist detective, the shy, straight-laced detective, the grumpy but soft on the inside matron, etc. Still, I enjoyed the mystery and didn't mind the characters, which are typical for a story like this. Still, characters with more of a back story could have fleshed this novel out a little more.

4/5

BOOK REVIEW: Just Murdered by Katherine Kovacic⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Audiobook Narration by Geraldine Hakewill-- great story teller. Take enjoyed this Narration

Book Moods: amateur sleuth, mystery, chosen family, finding your place, clever

I loved this cute mystery. Peregrine Fisher reminds me so much of Enola Holmes on Netflix.. she throws herself into an investigation to prove herself. She's clever, smart and one step ahead of the police the whole time. This is supposed to be book 1 in a series, and I will for sure pick up the next book!

Thank you @netgalley and @dreamscape_media for this great listen!!

“𝑰𝒇 𝒄𝒓𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒇𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒂𝒖𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒂 𝒘𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒅 𝑭𝒊𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒓.”

As a fan of the television series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and its spinoff, Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries, I was excited to see a book adaptation of said spinoff.

When I first started to listen to the audiobook, I thought “wow the narrator has nailed Pelegrine’s accent,” only to find it out is narrated by Pelegrine herself, Geraldine Hakewill. I love Hakewill’s expression and she nails Violetta’s accent, along with James Steed’s confident cadence. This story is based on the first episode, and I worried that I’d not enjoy the story since I technically knew what would happen. Katherine Kovacic’s writing kept me fully invested; she especially has a way of describing scene settings, allowing the reader to fully picture 60’s Melbourne. Peregrine is a likeable heroine, and although not as mature and assured as her aunt Phryne, it is a joy to see how she dives right into finding out the truth of what happened at Blair’s department store. Her developing relationships with Birdie, Violetta, Samuel, and most of all, James are a true highlight. Although the plot isn’t as developed as it could be (understandable considering it’s based on the pilot episode), it is still comes to a fun, satisfying conclusion.

Just Murdered is a story of the sixties, finding your way, murder, and revenge. I hope it gets more people discovering the wonderful world of the Fisher women (and encourages Acorn TV to commission a third season!). I highly recommend the audiobook! Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for the ARC!

This was hard to get into, I listened to the audiobook and I can typically get through an audiobook in one day, two max and this took over a week. I just found I wasn’t invested.

That being said, the second half of the book made up for it and I listened to the second half in one afternoon.

It was a nice adventure and I liked the relationship between the MC and the man who is being set up to be their love interest later (I’m assuming).

Overall, it was interesting I would read others in the series.

What a fun story! As Peregrine Fisher tries to find her place in the world, she accidentally discovers the Adverturess's Club. Since she has no home or family left and all she craves is a place to belong, she sets her sights on becoming a member of the organization. But first, she has to prove her worth. And she does so in spades!

I will admit that I had a hard time placing what time period the story took place in for quite a while, and that did throw me off a bit. But once I finally figured out it was in the latter '50s or early '60s, everything else fell into place.

I really enjoyed the storyline, the mystery, and the potential love interest, and I look forward to reading subsequent books in the series. I've also added the TV show to my Netflix queue.

Thank you to Katherine Kovacic, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

Unlike-able and selfish characters. While the story line was different I found it extremely hard to believe that anything like this could be possible.

This was such an unexpected read. I didn't expect to fly through it so quickly but I really enjoyed the characters, the writing and the setting. I am not familiar with the show that this is based on but I am looking forward to reading more in the series.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. The narrator did a good job. I enjoyed the book. I don't think I liked them as much as the Miss. Fisher's ones, but it was a fun who done it mystery.

I haven’t read the Phryne Fisher books, but the description/reviews made me want to give this world a chance and dive into a genre that i don’t read often.

Set in 1960s Australia, Just Murdered follows Peregrine Fisher (Phryne Fisher’s niece) as she discovers her inheritance and membership to the Adventurer’s club.

I felt the read was a super cozy, easy read with quite a strong female MC. The narrator did a phenomenal job at making our FMC seem feisty and sassy and made the story believable for me.

Overall, i think this book has a strong story and audience i just don’t think it was for me. I was quite bored and didn’t find myself invested in the characters or their stories. I found myself stopping and starting quite more than i normally do and constantly seeing how much i had left because i was ready to put it down.

Like i said, i think it was a fun enjoyable read for the right audience, just wasn’t for me.

Just Murdered by Katherine Kovacic is the first is the new Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries series and based off of the Australian TV series of the same name. When Peregrine Fisher receives a letter about her mother’s inheritance, she makes her way to the Adventuresses’ Club of the Anitpodes to figure out what it is all about. When she arrives she is faced with a murder and decides to throw herself into the investigation and search out the killer.

Let me start by saying I had never heard of the TV show this book is based on or knew anything about it. I found this to be a quick and fun read as we follow along with Peregrine’s crazy antics as she uncovers the killer. There was a lot of setting the scene and letting the reader know what the Adventuresses’ Club was, and I think this was done well and it made me intrigued to learn more about the group. I found the characters to be interesting and I really did enjoy Peregrine and her schemes undercover the killer. Overall, this was an entertaining read and I’m interested to see what else is to come in this series. If you are a cozy mystery fan looking for a fun read full of antics, this book is worth a try!

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an audiobook copy of this book!

The Adventuresses Club

Peregrine Fisher's life is going nowhere. She just got fired from her job, she doesn't know what she is going to do with her life. Then she gets a letter from Melbourne Australia saying that she needs to go there for an inheritance. She thinks it can't be true but she goes anyway.

She finds out she has inherited her aunt's house, car and money. She cannot inherit her aunt's seat in the Adventuresses Club, that must be earned. Her aunt was a bit of an investigator and when a body shows up at a fashion show she gets her chance to crack the mystery and earn her seat.

I enjoyed this cozy mystery. The fashion's of the time were described in detail and it was fun to see what was in fashion then. The characters were offbeat and quirky and I especially liked the character of Peregrine, she had spunk.

The narration was good, the narrator did a good job her voice was pleasant to listen to and easy to understand.

It was an enjoyable book and I would recommend it.

Thanks to Katherine Kovacic for writing the story, to Geraldine Hakewill for the narration, to Dreamscape Media for publishing it and to NetGalley for providing me with a copy to read and review
