I have never seen the tv Mss Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries tv show, but Just Murdered is based on the screenplay of the first episode. In 1964, a somewhat aimless Peregrine Fisher discovers she has an inheritance waiting for her to claim in Melbourne. Which is good, since she just got fired from the latest in her string of jobs. She arrives at the Adventuress’ Club and finds out that she had an aunt, Phryne Fisher, also an Adventuress, who has been missing for six months. Phyrne had left instructions that her sister, Pegegrine’s deceased mother, be contacted in the event of Phryne’s disappearance or death, which is why Peregrine was sought out to claim Phyrne’s things. Almost immediately one of the adventuresses is accused of murdering a model and Peregrine is determined to help clear her name.

This book was a lot of fun. Peregrine is self-assured and her variety of past jobs gives her random skills and knowledge that come in handy. She doesn’t allow anyone to tell her what to do but can take advice. The detective on the case, James Steed, is hesitant about her “assistance” but has to admit that she does have good insights. There’s also some sexual tension between the two of them, but it adds to the book’s fun without distracting from the mystery.

The mystery was put together well, with plenty of clues and red herrings. There are enough suspects to keep you guessing.

I also really enjoyed the 60s setting. First of all, the fashions are fun. But the book also glances at the social movements of the time, women’s rights, and changing moral expectations.

I listened to the audio and thought the narrator did a great job, which makes sense since she plays Peregrine in the tv shows. She has the voice and attitude down pat.

Just Murdered was fun and light and a good break. I hope there’s another in the series. And maybe I should break down and get Acorn TV.

I love a good woman empowered murder mystery book. Each of the ladies that are part of the club have a special skill that they bring to the group. Peregrine has been searching for a place to belong and it starts to fall into place when she receives a letter about an inheritance. Peregrine now has a murder that she must solve due to the fact that the cops are corrupt.

Story introduces us to Peregrine Fisher, niece of the famous Phryne Fisher,
Peregrine has attempted to be a hairdresser without success.
Her mother gets a letter summoning her to go to Melbourne to the Adventuresses' Club.
There she learns that her aunt, Phryne whom she has never met has disappeared but is leaving her an inheritance.
When Peregrine gets to Melbourne, one of the first things that happen is that Adventuress Florence Astor is accused of murder, Peregrine jumps in immediately as she is sure Florence.
Detective James Steed, is not quite as excited about Peregrine’s investigation.
Stay tune. .
When I started this audiobook, I wasn’t sure it was going to work for me as I didn’t care for Ms. Hakewell’s performance of Peregrine. She does a fab job of ALL of the other characters.
I hung in there as I was curious and did like the story. I did end up liking it but never got used to performance of Peregrine.

Thank you to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for the audio ARC of Just Murdered by Katherine Kovacic. I’m a fan of the original Miss Fisher tv show, I hadn’t seen the newest tv show which the novel is based on. The novel caught my attention right away and was engrossed until the end. This is not a psychological thriller, but I wasn’t expecting it to be. I would enjoy if they released more novels with Peregrine and the other people in this novel.

Oooooh yes!!! This is my kind of murder mystery!!

I understand this book is based on the screenplay by Deb Cox. But I haven’t seen it. Nor have I seen or read the previous books about Phryne Fisher. But that did not negatively affect my experience at all!! I loved it!!!

The 60’s vibe was great! I’m not old enough to have lived in the 60’s. But I am old enough to remember dial tone.
There were so many great references! Especially liked the reference to “us working woman” and how much the world has changed since then.

It was fun to be engrossed in a time when forensics can’t solve all problems and there are no security cameras to review or the internet at all.

Wholesome book. And I seriously cannot wait to read more shenanigans from Peregrine Fisher. And I’ll have to go look for Aunt Phryne’s adventures before her fateful trip.

I’ve been a big fan of Miss Fischer and the Modern Miss Fischer tv shows, so I was thrilled to get the chance to listen to Just Murdered. The story is delightful and easy to sink straight into (I read it in two sessions). My only complaint is that I wish this wasn’t an exact telling of one of the show’s episodes since I knew where it was headed, but it was still fun nonetheless.

Peregrine Fisher was fired. Again. This time, she had mail pushed toward her that included a letter to her deceased mother from a secret society regarding an aunt she hadn't known existed.
Taking after her famous investigator of an aunt, she proves she's worthy of the society by unraveling the untimely death of a model during the fashion show of another society member, who is under scrutiny for the murder. Between hesitance from the Adventuress's Club, police corruption, and being in a new city stepping into some hefty shoes left by her aunt, Peregrine and her natural investigative keep others on their toes.

This book was so good, I hope it becomes a series. I put it down and immediately wanted more. The mystery unfolded naturally, without unusual or unnatural leaps that occasionally happen in lighter mysteries. Set in the 1960s the book deals with a lot of social coming of age as well in a fascinating way.

Peregrine fisher is a woman trying to figure out her place in the world. Then she finds a letter requesting her to show up at a meeting of the Adventuresses’ club of the Antipodes. It is here that she discovers her aunt is missing and after a certain amount of time, peregrine inherits all her stuff. And that includes her spot in this club. Peregrine decides to do what her aunt did and be the investigator of the group. Her first case is discovering who killed a model that was in a wedding dress fashion show put on by one of the other ladies in the adventuresses’ club.

This is a cute first book in this series. I really enjoyed that it was based in Australia. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book based in Australia. It took me a little bit to get into the story. Not sure if that was getting used to the accent or if it’s because it took a little bit to piece together the connection between the fashion show murder and the adventuresses’ club. I would like to see more character development in the next book. I did enjoy that the murder happened very soon to the start of the book verses getting through half of it and then the murder occurs. This way, the reader has more time to figure things out along with the characters detecting the case. Thank you to Netgalley and dreamscape media for allowing me to listen to this audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Quirky, sassy, and fun read that was based on the 60’s. Peregrine Fischer was such an interesting main character who didn’t have much going for until she is summoned to go to the Adventuresses’ Club of the Antipodes. We follow her through her journey to uncover who the murder is, mind you she was no detective but naturally mastered at it. I kept wanting to read/listen what else would unravel. The narration was on point and added that poshy quirkiness to Peregrine’s character.

I was super excited for this book! I love everything 60s and knowing it was a true interpretation during that time had me needing to read this book. Unfortunately it fell short for me. It was really difficult to get through this. It didn’t hold my attention well & I almost considered DNF-ing. Additionally, I didn’t find the main character likable at all. From the start, had a questionable and irritating personality. I sadly won’t be recommending this.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

I had mixed feelings when I started this, you know how reboots can be. I had not watched this tele series either.
I was still hesitant in the first few chapters but oh boy did I enjoy this!! There will never be another Phryne Fisher, but Peregrine is a chip off the old block for sure. She is very much like Phryne but still her own person. I love the Adventuresses' Club, like a league of extraordinary women.

Peregrine must prove herself, not just to the women but to herself and the memory of her aunt. She definitely got the sleuthing gene and also has the help of a handsome detective.

If you are a fan of the Miss Fisher series, I recommend giving this a try.

Just Murdered by Katherine Kovacic
4 stars

Peregrine Fisher lives a life, but not a very stable one. Her mother drug her here and there on a whim and she doesn't seem to know her family. She gets fired from her salon job and then she discovers a letter asking her to come to and address that ends up being the Adventuresses Club, which her aunt is/was a part of. I didn't realize this was maybe a spin off series? It was a very enjoyable murder mystery. I'd definitely read the next installment if it comes up in my feed and reminds me about itself.

Thank you to NetGally and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to read and review this story.

This charming novel takes place in 1960s Australia. Peregrine Fisher is summoned to The Adventuresses' Club of the Antipodes unexpectedly under the promise of an inheritance from her mother. She is surprised, though delighted, to find a group of women who knew and loved her estranged aunt. Much to her surprise, she's inherited a home, a car, and a closet full of exquisite clothing. She's determined to convince members of The Adventuresses' Club that she's worthy of membership, even if that means putting herself in danger and taking her aunt's place as the sleuth of the group. Just Murdered is a quick read with a great mystery at its heart.

The Phryne Fisher books are hit or miss in my opinion, but the TV series, which veers off drastically, is one of my favorite shows of all time. It used to stream on Netflix, but now you can find it on Acorn in the US. I had seen that her niece Peregrine had a show as well, and requested this book when I saw it.

I was pleasantly surprised by Peregrine. While I prefer Phryne's philandering antics, Peregrine holds her own in a male dominated Australia. The cops are sketchy. The society starlets are sketchier. All amuse.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this one as I have not read the Phryne Fisher series that it’s loosely related to but I enjoyed it. There was a lot of wonderful characters spread throughout the book, particularly the Adventuresses. This was a light, fun read with a focus on the era it’s set in, the 60s, and the fashion of that time. The mystery kept me guessing and I can’t wait to see what comes next for Peregrine and her friends.

When Peregrine Fisher, received a mysterious summons to Melbourne her life is flipped right on its axis. Her aunt is missing, she has inherited her house, her car and has the chance to earn her seat with Adventuresses' Club of the Antipodes. Full of murder, mystery and sleuthing ‘Just Murdered’ is packed with twists and turns you will never see coming!
This was such a solid start to the Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries and I cannot wait to see what Katherine Kovacic has in store for Peregrine next!
