I did try with this book - but there was just so much going on! I felt as if I'd missed a fair few meetings of comics lore, and while I know that will make it appeal more to long-time fans, it made for hard reading for me. It's a DNF, I'm sorry.

This was a really fun book to read. Things look real dire at the beginning, with apparently everyone under the control of this powerful being. Soon it becomes clear a few have broken free of their hold, but it won’t be enough to defeat them. When someone comes up with a risky plan, we see someone else make a bold decision. Just when all seems to be lost, something amazing ends up happening. As this story comes to a close, life for these heroes will be changed forever.

Marvel fans will enjoy seeing so many of their heroes come together in Into the Dark Dimension. From the well-known to the more obscure, this book has a hero for everyone. It didn’t have as many laugh-out-loud moments for me as some of the other Marvel books but there was still that characteristic humor running through the dialogue. Any Marvel fan should pick up this thrilling conclusion to the Crisis Protocol series and root for their favorite hero!

Book Summary:

Sometimes protecting the world doesn't go quite as planned. Take the battle against Dormammu. In an ideal situation, he never would have gotten such a strong foothold on the planet. Yet here he is, so close to conquering it.

To save the earth, different heroes must step up, creating new paths to victory. Doctor Strange must reassemble his team, the Shadow Avengers. Meanwhile, Tony Stark will focus on cooking up new technology (and the people to run it) to take the fight from a different direction. Ms. Marvel will seek out a new and unlikely ally.

My Review:

Honestly, there's little better than finding a new Marvel book to dive into. At least, that's how I feel about it! So when I saw Into the Dark Dimension sitting out in the world, I knew I had to snatch it up and try it. Okay, the fact that Stuart Moore wrote it significantly helped my motivation here.

Into the Dark Dimension is perfect for Marvel fans that have a deep appreciation of the complicated lore that is...well, Marvel in a nutshell. It's a lot, and that's not a bad thing. There are dozens of different characters weaving throughout the story, and not enough time to hold the reader's hands about their backstories. We have characters like Doctor Strange, Tony Stark, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Cloak, Dagger, the whole Guardians of the Galaxy crew, and Shang-Chi. And I'm confident I'm missing a few!

Thankfully, this is Stuart Moore we're talking about. The man has spent SO much time working in the depths of Marvel. So the balance between these characters is pretty well done, believe it or not.

I should probably mention that Into the Dark Dimension is based on the Marvel Crisis Protocol Game. So everything in this book is related to that universe, and thus isn't precisely the same as what is seen in the comics or movies.

Dormammu has taken over the universe, and things are Dormammawesome! Or at least, that's what nearly everyone believes. Ms. Marvel snaps herself out of the mind control, but most of the Shadow Avengers are trapped by the delusion. On her own, she seeks to rescue her teammates and free the world, a mission complicated by Tony Stark's own attempts at heroics. Stark chooses to recruit the others he thinks are smart enough to help him - mostly fellow white male billionaire tech-bros. The fact that they're all supervillains doesn't phase him. Fun to read, with stark called out in the most glorious detail a Marvel nerd could want. As usual, Kamala Khan saves the day, which is also nice for her fans. Hints at the next book have me ready for more Avengers vs. Dormammu action.

Into the Dark Dimension is the third novel by Aconyte Books to tie into the Marvel Crisis Protocol Game universe. It sees the worlds greatest heroes team up to defeat the evil Dormammu and free the planet and universe from his insidious mind control. After almost completing his conquest of Earth, Dormammu now has a stranglehold on the minds of most citizens. Only a select few of managed to resist. Left with no choice Doctor Strange must reassemble the Shadow Avengers while Tony Stark gathers a team of amoral tech geniuses to cook up a tech defence that might be able to break the mind control. While the Shadow Avengers defend earth, against former heroes now under Dormammu’s control, Ms Marvel must enlist an unlikely ally to destroy the evil lurking within the Dark Dimension once and for all.

Into the Dark Dimension is the epic conclusion to the Crisis Protocol trilogy and my goodness does it end with a bang (a good one, not a bad one like the earth exploding or something like that!). As with the other two wonderful instalments, one by talented Stuart Moore and the other the marvellous Carrie Harris, this book reads just like it came right out of a comic. I don’t mean this in a bad way at all. What I mean is the action is something you would be forgiven for thinking could only possibly be depicted via a comic or the big (or small) screen but Moore manages to capture it perfectly in novel format.

We finally see the big finale, numerous characters from across the marvel universe interacting to try and save the planet and universe from Dormammu’s control. It is a brilliant adventure and captures the sense of cross over that you expect from the comic run annuals of old that used to feature cross overs. I particularly liked how we see some of the heroes if not most already defeated or rather succumb to the villain. It instantly built the suspense and reinforces just how deadly a foe those few who survive are facing. I found myself wanting to know more right away to see if they could win and what would happen to those who had lasted so far.

The characterisation of the cast was also brilliantly done. I liked to see the characters under Dormammu’s control interacting with those who had once been allies. It kept everything interesting, intense and fresh. This was a brilliant way to end the trilogy and really does keep you on the edge of your seat. You don’t have to played the Crisis Protocol games to enjoy this trilogy. In fact I would recommend any marvel fan be it via comics, games, movies or a mixture to pick this series up you will not be disappointed.

Have this book as an ebook and will be buying the physical book when it comes out. I enjoyed it that much. I must have it in my possession. Marvel for the win

This book is the third instalment in this series and by now we can see the real fight between the heroes and the villains and how hard is for the heroes to beat the villains. In MCU movies, this was done fairly simply IMO, but here in this book or series, we can see why these villains are considered big and Epic villains and why these heroes are considered the best Marvel has to offer.

With most of the heroes under the influence of the lord of the dark dimension, the remaining few heroes struggle to find purchase on the victory and saving the entire universe.

Such a good book but with its own faults in pacing on some places and little bit predictable plot too.

When it comes to the Marvel Universe, it’s easy to overuse the word Epic. And it’s easy to see why given the scope of the stories and the world/universe shattering battles the mighty heroes often engaged in. And yet there really isn’t another more appropriate word I can think of to use to describe Into the Dark Dimension. Heck, I’d say epic is almost too weak of a word. I’ve read many of the Marvel Universe novels over the years, but I think this might be my favorite one yet. Is the world in trouble? Yes, but it’s more than that. The entire universe? Yeah, but again it’s even greater than that because this time around Dormammu has dang near conquered all the dimensions and only a handful of heroes (and villains) are left to continue the fight. Seriously, from the opening chapter where the Guardians of the Galaxy struggle to fire off a warning of what’s on the horizon you could just tell this one was going to be EPIC (sorry, couldn’t resist). Heck towards the end it almost breaks down into Civil War 3, as our handful of free heroes are forced to battle their former allies and teammates. Loved that Ms. Marvel got a chance to really shine, and was pleasantly surprised to see a some great cameos from…(nope, no spoilers, but I would like to see a certain underrated duo get their own showcase at some point.) Stuart Moore did an absolutely fantastic job of nailing the various character personalities and bringing them to life and I dearly hope there will be even more titles by him in the future. I’d like to thank Aconyte Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an eARC of Into the Dark Dimension. This is one that Marvel fans are most definitely not going to want to miss out on.

My thanks to both NetGalley and the publisher Aconyte Books for an advanced copy of this Marvel adventure told in novel form.

Evil is triumphant. The dread mystical leader of a dark dimension has won. People all over the universe and even in other dimensions think only of their leader, paying tributes with their very souls to the leader they worship and love. And its not just Fox News watchers or Epoch Times readers. Almost all the superheroes, all the villains, from the mightiest to the Ant-Man now call Dormammu, the ruler of all, and their master. However not all have fallen yet. Into the Dark Dimension: A Marvel: Crisis Protocol Novel by Stuart Moore is a big blockbuster of a story filled with a lot of heroes, villains and aliens all fighting for freedom from the eternal tyranny of Dormammu, Lord of the Dark Dimension.

Without anyone knowing there was even a battle, the dread Dormammu has won control of all of space, including the empires of the Kree and the Shi'ar, other dimensions, and almost all of the planet known as Earth. Dormammu has shared a little bit of himself and infected everyone with his essence, making them subservient to his words, with no real memory of life before. In appreciation for all the Dormammu does, people gather in tribute booths and give parts of themselves to him, their life energy, collected by machines made by Stark and Osbourne factories. Only a few have been able to escape Dormammu's clutches, Doctor Stephen Strange, Master of the Mystic Arts, Luke Cage known as Power Man, and Tony Stark, Iron Man. Soon the begin to gather others like Ms. Marvel, Black Panther, and Spider-Man, along with villains such as Doctor Octopus to bring the fight to the Dark Dimension. If they fail, we all will be saying Make Mine Dormammu! for the rest of our days.

A big sprawling adventure similar in many ways to the Summer annuals that used to crossover with each other. The story is big, this is the third in the series with real threats to the characters and their loved ones, and everyone else in the Marvel Universe. Starting with the heroes already beat is a good idea, and allows the build to acceptance of what is going on, and then deciding to do something helps to build tension. There are a lot of characters, so a familiarity with the comic book universe would be pretty helpful. Stuart Moore is a long time editor and writer of comics, so brings a skill and knowledge base that allows him to showcase powers and history of the characters that also help with the story. There is a few slow parts, a fight scene or two that just seems a little long but all in all it is a good story, with a lot going on, that builds to a good ending.

Recommended for comic readers of course. There are a lot of characters, and some are given interesting quirks and ideas that help with the story, and flesh them out a bit more. A good adventure story with a lot of action and a big sprawling story.

Into the Dark Dimension by Stuart Moore is the third book in this series. Prior to its April 4, 2023, release date, Aconyte Books provided an early galley for review.

Stories like this are exactly what the Marvel Universe is all about. There is such a rich history and pool of characters to draw from, and Moore takes full advantage of that aspect in crafting this epic tale. Besides the crew from previous installments (Dr. Strange, Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage, the Guardians of the Galaxy), this time he brings in Tony Stark, Cloak, Dagger, Shang-Chi, Doctor Octopus and more. He manages to juggle this large cast well while moving the story along at a breakneck pace.

And this story is very high stakes. It starts out with Dormammu basically having taken over everything and everyone. This puts our heroes and allies directly behind the eight-ball, forcing them to come back from a place of defeat. The story shows exactly how resourceful our heroes are when facing insurmountable odds. Good stuff. Fans will really appreciate this one.

I really enjoyed this entry in the Marvel: Crisis Protocol, it's been a great concept for a series. I enjoy that they used lesser known characters for this Marvel story. I loved the use of mind control and enjoyed that there were reasons that the main Marvel cast wasn't around. It had what I was looking for from the previous books and I enjoyed the way Stuart Moore wrote this.

"With a sinking feeling, she realized it was getting late; if she didn’t get home soon, her parents would start calling. So she gave the bar top another once-over and cleaned the sink behind it. Then she started down the dark, narrow corridor in the back of the establishment, to perform her one vital duty."
