4.75/5 stars! This is the second book in the "Locard Institute Thriller" series by author Lisa Black. This was my first book by this author and I felt like it worked well as a standalone as well. The premise was intriguing and I was excited to get an answer to the main question of 'what happens when a serial killer goes to CSI school.' This book was designed for forensics nerds and might annoy casual readers. But for a true crime junkie like myself, this book was perfection. I loved getting all the scientific and psychological factors involved in the thriller. Will definitely be waiting for book 3 in this series.

I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I enjoyed the characters and the mystery but I felt like there was too much technical information that I didn’t understand or really care to know about. If you are interested in DNA and all that goes with it you will love this book.

What Harms You by Lisa Black This action-packed mystery thriller is full of red herrings. The mystery surrounding the deaths of a student at the Institute and Dr. Wright become more complex as the secrets, veiled comments, and conversations of the characters are revealed. Rachael and Ellie work well together in solving the cases. A very good addition to the Locard Institute Thriller Series.
Thank you to the author, Kensington, and Netgalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Enjoyed reading "Lisa Black's "What Harms You." This is a fast-paced and intriguing story about CSI-types who are at a professional development training and find themselves in the midst of some strange and unexplained deaths. Ms. Black has done a masterful job of keeping the interest with the shifting of whodunit ideas.

Characters are very real people and imaginative in the professional setting at the Locard Training facility. The view of the facility was clear as an old boy's private school set in the country on many acres with fencing separating it from the surrounding forests/homes.

Ellie is a former FBI person who wants to do some teaching and be more in control of her life. With a marriage that is failing, she sees the Locard position as being a godsend for her, But everything does not come up roses and the happenings on campus may put a crimp in her plans and derail her new home purchase overlooking the bay.

I would definitely recommend this to the reader who enjoys the crime-scent type story. A couple of twists to keep the guessing to a minimum is to be expected.

Dr. Ellie Carr’s first day as an instructor at the forensic center, the Locard Institute is marred by the death of her colleague, Dr. Barbara Wright. The death appears to be accidental, but Ellie suspects something more sinister. When a student meets a grisly end, Ellie teams up with her supervisor, Dr. Rachael Davies to find the killer, using Locard’s principle, that an exchange between two individuals will always leave trace evidence – they just have to find it. I enjoyed this book because of the strong, intelligent female leads’ readers will suss out the killer long before the but they’ll have a good time along the way

This mystery thriller was written by a talented and gifted author. The book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author also. The characters are realistic, and this book would make a great television show. The red herrings abound, but it is easy to discern the murderer. The secrets, hints, and conversation of the characters help the reader solve the mystery. This is a quick read. Curl up and be transported to the world of discovering a murderer.
