An incredibly charming book about the new king, Charles. Matt Hunt's illustrations are quite lively and captures Charles and the royal family very well. It is also very age appropriate and tells about the King's accomplishments rather than dwelling on tabloid headlines. An excellent way to introduce children to the British monarchy.

It is not a secret anymore that I am a fan of this series .King Charles has been an iconic person for our generations. The ultimate standard of success. This book shows his life him as a person other than being the crown Prince. I have always felt that Princess D's persona had overshadowed him .But good thing this book gives him his due credits .

From the pealing bells of Westminster Abbey announcing his birth to the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, Charles' has had a full life preparing to become king. And now he has, at age 73.

This sweet little book introduces young readers to "the man who would be king," providing glimpses into Charles' life, both past and present. Did you know Charles was the first royal to earn a degree? Or that he performed inp lays and concerts as a young man? About his concern for the environment and love of nature, especially the Welsh countryside? It's all here in this charming little book.

Beautiful color illustrations accompany the text. Sentences are brief and easy to digest so as to not to over-tax young attention spans. Informative and engaging, "King Charles" offers a glimpse into Charles' life that will resonate with young readers. It would make an excellent addition to any young person's nonfiction library.

A simple overview of King Charle's life from when he was a little boy to his eventual ascension as King.
It touches on all of the key aspects of his life including his extended period as the Prince of Wales and his pursuit of environmental initiatives. And includes some beautiful illustrations throughout that nicely support the simplified story.

Such a beautiful book about the new king and his life! The book is very much unlike most traditional books about the royal family. This one stands out with its carefully chosen words and beautiful, I might even say sensitive, language – especially the parts about Diana and then about Camilla. Charles is portrayed in a very humane way, the book is really about him as a person, not just a member of the royal family. The drawings in the book are beautiful and clear, each drawing makes the perfect addition to the text.

I’ve never been very interested in the royal family but thought I would give this book a try having also read the Queen Elizabeth Little People Big Dreams book.

I was surprised to learn that Charles was the first person from his family to get a degree! Also I was surprised to learn that he also enjoyed performing. He’s always been old to me and I’ve never known him other than as a prince.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: This book may end up being one of her more controversial ones. It doesn't lie, but it does certainly gloss over what happened with Diana and Camilla. I think some adults may take umbrage with the characterization there. It also ignores much of the controversy surrounding Charles. It paints him as somebody who is concerned with the environment and young people. It is not unfactual, but I think some may take issue with it.

I also agree with others that the illustration style in this one is different than in her others.

I enjoyed it for what it was, and I think many others will really enjoy this one.

Pros: I adore the Little People, BIG DREAMS series, and my favorites include the books on Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Queen Elizabeth II. I'm always excited to see a new book in this series on NetGalley because they are so dependable with great information and fantastically detailed (and accurate!) illustrations. I think this series would make wonderful gifts.

Specific to this book on King Charles III, I loved how it featured his special causes, including the environment.

Cons: Like other books in this series, there are some big ideas and topics in this book that make it more advanced than just a picture book. This is not a negative--it's just a note that the cover art might suggest it is a picture book when really it's something adults will want to help young readers with (for example, the death of Princess Diana).

A beautifully illustrated, children friendly story of King Charles III’s life (no mention of affairs or car crashes). My daughter (9) enjoyed reading of his love of history, the environment and charity work.

A timely addition to the "Little People, Big Dreams" series, released prior to the coronation of King Charles III.

Well aimed at children, there is a lot of coverage of the King's love of nature and the environment. Tricky subjects are handled in a childlike manner - as adults, we know the controversy that surrounded his relationships with Diana and Camilla, but this book mentions friendships and sensitively covers marriage breakdown.

To me, it didn't feel quite as appealing as other books in the series. The illustrations were much subtler, and the colours more muted. They worked for the subject matter, but I didn't feel it fit with the theme of the series as a whole.

A quick short story about the life of our king, it still sounds weird to say king!

Perfect for schools and a great little history lesson.

Funny illustrations

I have read many books now in this series - 'LITTLE PEOPLE, BIG DREAMS'
And i usually completely love them! However, this one feels very different. The illustrations are not the same as they usually are - these illustrations felt very true to life, and very 'Quentin Blake' - but usually they feel more cartoony, and are really colourful - this felt very muted in the colour palette.
I was interested how they would address certain parts of King Charles life as he has had quite a difficult life in terms of controversy and this book is aimed at children. They do talk mention Diana, Camilla, and the death of the Queen - but they brush over this with just a few sentences to sum up each moment. So it's not lying or hiding, but it certainly is skimmed over.

I liked this book, and it looks at King Charles work with younger people and the environment. So it felt very uplifting (even if adults know that not all parts of his life are uplifting) A nice book, but it didn't have the same 'magic' as some of the other books in the series.

A great introduction for kids to the King. I enjoyed that it wasn't solely about him being a King but included things like his love of walks, nature, and Wales. I can imagine this being ideal for Primary School kids to begin learning some history. The illustrations, as always, were fantastic.

I’m still not used to King Charles. He was Prince Charles for so long. And I know this series is for children, but Camilla was never his “friend”. Diana did not go what she did for this slander.

What an absolute gem of a book! Beautifully illustrated with direct but very sensitive text. It sums up the long life of our new King perfectly, with a wonderful reference to his love for Wales, and I do hope every school age child has the opportunity to read it.

What a lovely book, carefully written, with beautiful illustrations. I know this series has been designed for children, but as a teacher, I absolutely adore reading them myself. They are informative, inspiring and fun too!

What a great book on King Charles for younger readers. I read this one with my 5-year old nephew & he loved it. This series is great for our younger readers.

I've had an interest in the British monarchy on and off for many years. This book contained some facts about King Charles, but it wasn't particularly engaging for children.

I am a huge fan of the books in this series, and I was waiting for this book to be released.

My daughter really enjoyed the book in Queen Elizabeth II and I hoped that there would be a book on King Charles III and she was delighted that we received a copy of this one and that she was able to read it.

It covers his younger life and relationship with his grandma, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, his marriage with Diana and then latterly with Camilla.

The illustrations are great and bring his story to life. It is 5 stars from me for this one, very highly recommended and another fabulous addition to this series.
