Michele Campbell is one of my must-read authors when I'm in the mood for a gripping thriller read. She's hit another one out of the park with this one. The Intern takes the reader on a behind-the-scenes look at the legal system when Madison gets an internship with her much revered professor and respected lawyer.

The problem is Madison has secrets she's keeping from her mentor. Will that jeopardize everything she's worked so hard for? But wait, is the judge keeping secrets as well? So much drama and suspense. And I loved every minute of it.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Intern and was kept enthralled to the very end. And now I wait for Ms. Campbell's next book. So hard to wait. Sigh.

3.5 ⭐️ for me, rounded up to 4.

This was a solid thriller and kept me engaged. It felt realistic, but after talking to some lawyer friends who also read this, they had some critiques I initially didn’t think about.

I enjoyed the dual POVs and the FMCs, but I did feel like there were a few too many character that made this more complex than it needed to be. But overall a solid thriller set on a college campus with a satisfying conclusion.

Madison Rivera lands the internship of a lifetime working for Judge Kathryn Conroy. But Madison has a secret that could destroy her career. Her troubled younger brother Danny has been arrested, and Conroy is the judge on his case. When Danny goes missing after accusing the judge of corruption, Madison’s quest for answers brings her deep into the judge’s glamorous world. Is Kathryn Conroy a mentor, a victim, or a criminal? Is she trying to help Madison or use her as a pawn? And why is somebody trying to kill her? As the two women circle each other in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game, will they save each other, or will betrayal leave one of them dead?
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for giving me an advance copy.

An intense, suspensful thriller that truly blew my mind! I loved this book and I can't wait to read more by Michele Campbell!

As a judges assistant myself, I had a unique perspective as I read this book. Unfortunately I think it played against me, and brought down my rating a significant amount. The ethical flaws and logistics of the book, which I’m sure helps make it an interesting story for most thriller readers, made it so improbable (and borderline annoying) that I couldn’t get past it. Like a doctor watching greys anatomy, or a cop watching law and order. Maybe next time :(

I wish I hadn't waited so long to read The Intern. Michele Campbell put together a world-class thriller that truly kept me guessing until the very end. It's incredibly fast-paced, and extremely detailed, and I enjoyed that it is set in Boston. This is more in the realm of a police procedural/law thriller, than the type where someone is murdered and people are trying to figure out what happened.

I liked that Campbell had two points of view - one from the intern and one from the federal judge. It added some incredible depth to the story.

I don't want to say much because this is definitely one that would be easy to spoil. All I'll say is add this one to your TBR list!

Thank you, St. Martins Press and NetGalley for the #gifted eARC in exchange for my honest review.

An ambitious Harvard Law School student, Madison Rivera, has been a fan of Judge Kathryn Conroy since Conroy spoke at her school years earlier. When Conroy offers her an internship, Madison is excited. However, her brother Danny has just been arrested on drug charges, and Madison fears that telling the judge this will ruin her chances. Madison lies by omission, and fails to tell the judge this info. Then, Madison hears that the judge is working with a dirty cop, and he is being framed. Her mother begs her to help free Danny.
Madison agrees to help, but the judge surprises her by asking Madison to pet sit her cat. Madison doesn't realize it, but she is being pulled into a messy and dangerous situation.
Who can she trust?
I enjoyed this fast-paced thriller, although I did think it was a bit far-fetched that the judge would so easily warm to Madison. But, as the story evolved, and you knew more background, it is not so much a stretch to understand how far people will go to protect themselves and their loved ones.
A complex story. I always enjoy Michele Campbell's books and this didn't disappoint!

I’m a little here, but The Intern was worth the wait and a fun, fast paced read.

Madison gets a coveted intern position with her hero, Judge Conroy. Things move super quickly from here when at the same time Madison’s brother is arrested (again) for something he didn’t do. Madison finds herself having to lie to Judge Conroy about his crimes to keep the internship but the Judge isn’t who she seems.

Told from both POVS makes for a wild ride. I couldn’t help but love the judge and shake my head at Madison most of the time. This was overall a great engaging fast paced thriller mixed with mob vibes.

So glad I finally read this one. Appreciate my early copy.

Harvard Law student Madison Rivera gets the opportunity of a lifetime to interview for an internship with her role model: Judge Conroy. There's just one thing standing in her way: her brother Danny was arrested on drug charges. He claims he's innocent, and that the cop, lawyer, and judge are all dirty. Who is the judge? You guessed it - Kathryn Conroy.

Things really progress quickly in thrillers lately. Madison was an intern for ONE DAY before the ball got rolling!

While we are on the subject of things moving quickly, Madison was, at times, an idiot, if I'm being quite honest. She had the best of intentions, but GIRL. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I think I rolled my eyes approximately 436 times during her chapters. 😂

I really liked the character of Judge Conroy. I don't want to go into too many details and spoil anything, but she was dynamic and sympathetic and, at times, unhinged.

I find myself always liking Campbell's novels, and this was no different. Was some of it a tad unbelievable? Yes. But I enjoyed the way it all wrapped up, and I'd definitely recommend it to someone looking for a quick, thrilling read!

This was a #buddyread with my bestie Beth, and there are two things I need to mention:
1. She spoiled nothing for me!
2. Because I finished before her for once!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press for my finished copy and Netgalley for my ARC! Sorry I'm so behind at reviewing it!

This book focused more on the judge than the intern, so the title isn't my favorite because of that. I did love the alternating timelines, the suspense, and the thrills I got from this book. I was gasping with shock so much!

This story was well plotted and an engaging read throughout. There were no plot holes and I found myself with a desire to consume everything g Michele Campbell has released.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Exciting from start to finish. A glimpse into a world that we already can see having corrupt story lines, this makes for a great interesting read.

Madison is a young Harvard student who is offered an internship with her professor (who is also a federal judge.) She gets in too deep with the judge’s secrets and corruption, leading her into a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with very powerful and dangerous people.

This is a suspenseful legal thriller that was so entertaining, even if it was a bit far-fetched. The character development and pacing were both enough to keep me fully engaged. I enjoyed the dual POVs and the audiobook narration is great, moving the story right along. My only complaint: it could’ve been a tad shorter.

The intern was a fast paced thriller that provided two perspectives of the same events. Kathy is a respected judge, Harvard Law professor, who hires an intern Madison, as part of her firm. However, quickly lies and deceit seem to tarnish their relationship, and put both of them in danger of federal charges...or worse. This book kept me on my toes and while it didn't provide any profound twists, it still kept me on the edge of my seat to find out what happened next. I appreciated the alternate view points and timelines to provide context to what was happening.

This book followed a judge and her intern thrown into the middle of the Boston mob where influence and money reign and terror and death run rampant.
While the ending was satisfying and just, the book lacked anything to set it apart from the rest of the genre. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, but also there wasn’t anything outstanding about it either.

This book was addictive and suspenseful following a law student uncovering the corruption and deception happening in the legal system. It was quite a wild ride and went in a direction I wasn’t anticipating. Near the end the plot started to feel a bit far fetched but I was throughly entertained so I didn’t mind the unrealistic aspects.

Thank you to Michele Campbell, @stmartinspress, and @netgalley for allowing me to read an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of The Intern for an honest review!

📆This book was published on October 3, 2023 and can be purchased at your local bookstore or on Amazon!📆

I started reading this book as a buddy read with three other friends that had been approved for the ARC as well. I put the book down due to sickness and then life being out of control. I’m so thankful I was able to pick the book back up to complete it in the new year because it was completely worth it!

The first portion of the book felt a tad slow but when the book hit 20% or so…wowza! I didn’t know what in the world I was reading and what in the world was going to happen. There was a shift in characters being completely trustworthy and reliable to not being able to trust anyone! Who, what, and why became the main focus of my attention.

Whodunnit?
Who are the accomplices?
Who are the enemies?
Who will be in harms way next?
What is the end game?
What are the motives of each character?
Why are people dying?
Why are people running?
Why is a federal court judge involved?

Highly recommend for the thriller lover!

Thanks to Netgalley, St, Martins Press and Michele Campbell for this ARC. If your looking for a legal read that upholds or distorts the Justice system and are subject to the consequences, this one’s for you. I feel it started out a bit slow for me,and dragged in a few places, but it picked up and I did read it in a few days time and found hard to put down, so it’s a 4 star from me…
my reviews are on Amazon, Goodreads, my online book clubs and I recommend to my local Bookclubs, and this one I did..
