Fun, funny, and heartwarming fresh take on childhood friends become sweethearts. Plenty of twists and turns to keep it interesting. Some super predictable moments but sometimes those help make a book easy…
Two lovable pups, 3 lovable best friends, and a castle family round out the crew in this story. I absolutely loved the hardworking heroine but the author wasn’t too consistent with her demeanor. I’m forgiving that bc the heroine was under all kinds of stress, so maybe that’s realistic.

Another fabulous book from Lisa Hobman.

Olivia left Scotland with the blessing of het family and is now working in New York as a trainee fashion designer.

Her brother Kerr, thinks that everything should be about him and of in trouble, which he is often, his mother should help him every time.

When Olivia hears that her mother has passed away, she comes back to the family estate, Kerr informs her that he will be the sole benefactor of the estate, after which he will sell the castle, news that absolutely angers her.

But, when the will is read out after the funeral has taken place, it’s not what Kerr was expecting was going to be read out.

So, will Olivia come home for good, or is she going to stay in New York?

I absolutely loved reading this book anc highly recommend it.

What a lovely read. I really felt like I was there, seeing the castle be transformed as Olivia made the changes.
I felt the pull between Brodie and Olivia from the start and I was really rooting for them but things kept getting in the way. They both had such big hearts and clearly cared deeply for each other. However watching the love blossom between Mirren and Dougie was really beautiful and I loved the ending.
A wonderful read from start to finish.

Coming Home to the Highlands by Lisa Hobman

I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley for review. My opinions are my own.

4/5 stars

Such a fun second-chance romance! This book features Olivia, who hails from the Scottish clan MacBain and grew up in Drumblair Castle. After her mother passes away, she is called back to Scotland where she received a big surprise.

Olivia is also reunited with Brodie, a childhood friend and her first love. Brodie is also married, which complicates the story.

TW: domestic abuse

Olivia (Liv,) is a trainee fashion designer in New York who left the family estate in Scotland with her parents blessing
Kerr is her brother who is a very condescending man who thinks the world revolves around him and expects his mum to keep bailing him out of his gambling mistakes
Sadly their mum passes away so Liv comes home where she finds Kerr expects to inherit everything and plans to sell the castle which horrifies Liv
After the funeral their mum's will is read out with some unexpected and surprising contents for Liv and some unpleasant surprises for Kerr
Will Liv come back home r is her future in New York ?
Loved it

Olivia has been living her dream life in New York. She receives a phone call from her brother saying their Mum has died. She heads to Scotland, not looking forward to all that’s ahead.
This was a nice easy to read book. It does deal with some domestic abuse. There’s some rivalry between Olivia and her brother. There’s plenty of romance too. It might be the perfect beach read
Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for the early copy

Coming Home to the Highlands is another easy read from this author and Boldwood Books. BB publishes the sorts of novels that readers want to relax with while sipping tea. An added plus is the very reasonable prices for the e book editions.

In Coming Home to the Highlands, Liv has in fact left, hence her return as per the title. Interested in the world of fashion, she had left the family castle and moved to New York. When her brother calls her with news, she has no choice but to return home. How will this go for her? Will brother and sister make peace? Will Liv keep her career? Find romance? Help her family? Read this one to find out.

Many thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this title. All opinions are my own.

This book was not without problems but I enjoyed it. The “secrets” were both pretty obvious. Olivia was a bit of a doormat and her brother never really found redemption. I wish the book had focused more on the changes to the estate as a whole.

Olivia works as a fashion designer in New York, and when she receives some shocking news from her brother, she finds herself returning home to the Scottish Highlands. Here she reconnects with old friends, and finds her life changing forever - can she accept the changes and make them work, and will she be able to keep to her wish to marry for love?

A sweet story, with a serious undertone. A number of characters have secrets that come out as the book goes on, and although I figured out the two main ones, it didn't affect my reading of the book. I also loved the canine characters of Marley and Wilf!

Liv never wanted to owner the castle and is throughout enjoying living her dreams of working in fashion. Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood for the advanced copy of this title in return for an honest review and spot on the book tour.

I only came across Lisa Hobman's books in 2021, and since then I have rad 5 of hers (including this one). Very quickly she's become a go-to author for fun, light-hearted, joyful stories.

There's a number of interesting characters but there's a few that stood out for me:

Olivia - our main protagonist, she wants to please everyone, feels a bit timid when out of her comfort zone. She is happy with how her life is and she doesn't necessarily want to rock the boat. I really liked her but would have liked for her be more confident in herself.

Kerr - Olivia's brother. A despicable character, even if he did try to worm his way into my good books as it went along, he never succeeded.

Brodie - A childhood friend of Olivia, they parted on bad terms as teenagers. He is a gorgeous sounding man, in looks and personality. He is a wonderful partner to work off for Olivia.

And then you have the characters like Mirren who almost feels like a motherly character for Olivia, and Innes, Olivia's uncle, stepping into that fatherly role. Brodie's dad Dougie even crops up, and he's a wonderful addition, and of course, Marley, the very cute family dog.

***SLIGHT CHARACTER SPOILER COMING UP***

The only criticism I have is regarding Olivia and Kerr's relationship. For 3/4 of the book, they're at each other's throats, he's a vile man and she's got no trust in him. And then, all of a sudden, he's changed his ways and this sibling relationship comes out of nowhere. So I'd have liked to have seen that stretched out more, as it didn't feel that believable for me.

***SPOILER OVER***

As for someone who, whilst not a follower of fashion, does take an interest in it and designs her own clothes on a semi-regularly basis, I was really interested in the plot point following Olivia's design career. It made a sometimes out-of-reach job feel more 'normal'.

I'm a sucker for books set in Scotland as I adore it there. Throw in a castle, a cute man and a cute dog, and it's the perfect recipe. Although none of my trips to Scotland have ever ended with a cute man and dog in a castle. Where am I going wrong?

It doesn't shy away from difficult topics. Yes it's overwhelmingly joyful, but it covers loss and grief, family rivalries, relationship troubles, abuse, violence. It's not all wrapped in cotton wool. It shows that normal life is fraught with difficulty.

It's what I've come to expect from her books. They're easy reads (I read this in less than a day), not too long, but long enough to get everything out of it you want, they're joyful and hopeful and full of love. Some may say a bit predictable but I'd say that's a good thing. With the so-called happily-ever-after books, you know pretty well how things will end up, but it's the journey that's the joy to read. How do our characters get to that ending? And you know you'll be entertained every step of the way.

It is the perfect cosy read for a warm spring evening.

It does end nicely (no spoilers) but there's definitely room for more, so I'm hoping this is only the start of a new series for Lisa as I have a lot of questions as to what happens next. I feel there's more she can give us in this vein so I'm holding out hope.

This book is amazing. I cried and felt the love
At one point the tears where rolling down my face. A few chapters on I could feel the friendship between oliva and brodie grow.
It made me feel warm and tingley inside.
I loved the ending I'm not giving spoilers but it made me smile.

This is a lovely happy feel good read. Lots of twists . Set in Scotland but begun in New York.. I loved the castle and how Olivia turned it around. Brodie’s story was amazing and something you don’t obviously think about. Great neat ending. I really enjoyed it

Coming home to the Highlands, was a brilliant read,

After a slower start it got me gripped and made me feel like I just wanted to keep reading.

I really wasn't expecting the Ending when it happened, I would really like to see a sequel to this book to see how the story develops as there is 3 sets of characters who's story could be carried on.

thank you for an advance copy for a honest review

"Comig Home to the Highlands" ist ein netter Liebesroman, die Geschichte fühlt sich aber manchmal etwas zu schnell und zu "voll" an. Was hat es zum Beispiel mit Kerr aufsich? Warum sein plötzlicher Sinneswandel? Oder die Geschichte von Brodie und seiner Frau. Es liest sich ein bisschen gehetzt.
Nichtsdestotrotz habe ich mich gut unterhalten.

Great premise and I was totally looking forward to reading this as I love books set in Scotland.

This is not a bad book but I didn’t get excited about it, partly because it was so slow and ponderous and partly because the main romance protagonists were neglected for so much of the book and then the denouement happened incredibly quickly and did not receive the attention it deserved.

A sweet and tear-jerker story . Olivia is a fashion designer from Scotland who lives in USA doing what she loves . When her mother suddenly dies she has to go back home . When her mother will is read she inherits her family's castle . Her mother left her the castle because the big brother has problem with drinking and gambling and if he inherited he would had sold everything the family owned . She must live in Scotland for 2 years and then she can choose what she want to do with her life . The boy she was in love when she was a young girl now is a handsome man working with his father at her gardens . While they are friendly towards each other he seems to keep a secret from her .
I received this book from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own .
