I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Perfect book for those planning a trip to the Cascade Range and Columbia River Gorge. Although helpful to bird watchers, I don't think that the library will purchase a copy due to it not being close to where we are located, so I will have to purchase my own copy.

Sara Swanson has touched my heart with a home felt perspective on birding in the Cascade Mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Best Little Book of Birds: The Cascade Range and Columbia River Gorge remind people about the natural wonders that encompass many backyards of the Northwest. After growing up in Portland and spending many days in the Cascades and Columbia Gorge, I never realized how many different types of birds fly by or feed nearby.

Sara gives great examples of how birds appear in the landscape. With differing regions, stretching from the southern part of the Cascades to the North Cascades, including segments of the Columbia River, she has cataloged places for regular sightings, seasonal differences, and approaches to identify. Her references to locations use general assumptions, though remote and wilderness locations seem to escape the focus. For a beginning birder, this text should motivate them to seek out and pay attention. The experts may find more discoveries beyond the locations listed.

Anyone can appreciate the respect and conservation that Sara uses in her descriptions and advice.

Thank you, Net Galley and Timber Press for this Advanced Reader's Copy.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book isn't organized the way I anticipated, but it's full of interesting bird facts to help you bird watch best. There's high level information about birds throughout the Oregon coast including some pictures, species information, seasonal information, and similar birds. The photos are really helpful and there's descriptions of things to look and listen for with the birds.

It's a helpful guide if you want to identify birds on the Oregon coast.
