The second book in the Elf Queen series and this was just as amazing and beautifully written. I loved how this featured a bit more action and was jam packed with drama from the very start, I all love how it starts off where we ended and gets going immediately. The whole book was filled to the brim with suspense and I can’t believe there was another cliff hanger - I’m dying to see what happens next. Overall I loved this so much, the character and relationship developments were so beautifully written you can’t help but be hooked into this enemies to lovers.

Long Live the Elf King picks up right where book 1 ended diving right back no into action and into the plot.

I listened to the audiobook and thought that both narrators did great on their characters and sections of the book. I struggled a little with both Layala and Thane in this book and didn’t feel as connected to them as I did while reading the first book. A lot was introduced in this book in terms of plot to move the story forward, but I wish we could have seen a little more character development.

I still enjoyed the book and the ending has left me very curious and wondering what will happen next.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I would like to say thank you to NetGalley for sending me an audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

Before I say anything about Long Live the Elf Queen, I have to admit that right before I dove into this, I binge listened to Bow Before the Elf Queen and was so, so happy I had a copy of book 2 because that cliff hanger had my heart stopping!

Some spoilers for book 2 are below!! (Just giving you a heads up!!)

So we pick up where we left off, with Layala captured and Thane injured. Where book 1 was more romance focused, book 2 is definitely action forward. Though there was definitely enough romance that had me absolutely swooning.

I love Thane and Layala's relationship. I love the whole enemies to lovers/the whole touch her and die vibe that they have. And to see what they go through in this book had me cheering them on from beginning to end.

The action was intense. There was a lot going on, but it just all makes sense with obstacle after obstacle thrown in their way. It was beautiful and perfect and I want so much more.

And of course, can't forget that CLIFFHANGER ENDING. I'm mad. More so because HOW DO YOU END IT RIGHT THERE?! I kept glancing at how much time was remaining in the book towards the end because there is just so much that wasn't wrapping up and my heart was racing and nowni have to wait for book 3.

All in all, I highly recommend this series. If you love romance and fantasy, this second installment of the Elf Queen series is perfection.

This review is for the audiobook specifically, for the time being I will post it on the ebook listing on goodreads. I really enjoy the story of Layala and Thane, Both the first book in this series and this follow up are thoroughly engaging and interesting. If you like fantasy with a big splash of romance, like ACOTAR, you'll love this. The narrators' performances are mostly good, but I'm a little bit picky and was a little annoyed by the accents they used for the characters. It was a little distracting for me because I couldn't figure out if it was supposed to be British RP or some weird Transatlantic accent. But overall I really had a good time listening to this book. If I could I probably would give it a 3.5 stars, not quite a 4, but better than the average 3.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are mine.

The book started really promising and it felt like it would go on like this but unfortunately somewhere in the middle it felt like this were dragging of a bit. The actual plot doesn't feel it matches the length of the book because of the world building that I personally felt like it needed a bit more work and improvement.

The characters were good but it felt like I hardly knew them well besides the few details we were given. I couldn't connect to them. The romance was good as well as the more private scenes between Thane and Layala. And then there's Tiff that is probably the most annoying character in the book.

Unfortunately it didn't feel like it had something special to make it stand out to me regarding other fantasy books. The ending though does leave you wondering and wanting more.

I want to thank NetGalley, J.M. Kearl and Dreamscape Media for the ARC.

“I would find you in every life, in every realm. I’ll be drawn to you for eternity. “

I listened to the audiobook

Let me tell you how amazing the narrators are !!! So much expression in their voices, especially the narrator for Layala !! I haven’t listened to a ton of audiobooks but this is the best one I’ve listened to by far.

The story picks up after Layala and Thane have been separated. We see how brutal the King is and how he treats Layala and those in the castle.

When she was finally rescued she snaps on (I can’t remember who) a Raven, for leaving her and getting Thane for help. I felt that it was off character and made her sound like a total B. It was really hard for me to connect or like Layala for a while after. I just wasn’t feeling her character for the entire middle of the story. It was off putting because through the first book and beginning of the second I really loved her. Near the ending I was conflicted with her attitude and how she was acting again. I honestly was shocked and kinda sad that I don’t really like her at all right now. It would of been a 4 star read otherwise.

The struggle Thane had in this book between wanting to kill his father but also wanting to believe he was somehow redeemable was quite raw and believable. I really liked seeing him face this inner turmoil. Even when we don’t have the best of parents and they have done unspeakable things, it’s hard to wish ill upon them or in this case death.

After the ending cliffhanger im really excited to see what happens next !! Hopefully Layala is more likeable like in book one though 😅

I want to thank Netgalley & @authorjmkearl for access to this audiobook for an honest opinion.

This book picks up right where the first one left off. As much as I enjoyed the first in the series, this one was unfortantely not for me. I struggled through the first half of the book and decided to just call it.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I was dying to know what happens next - however, this installment didn’t hit the mark for me.

I received the audiobook through NetGalley and I don’t know what it was but this just didn’t do it for me. They narrators were fine, but I didn’t care for the way their parts were pieced together - it felt a bit disjointed and certainly not conversational as meant.

The story was okay. It was a solid continuation but that’s all - nothing amazing happened and like I said the narration just really didn’t hit for me.

2.5⭐️

The 2nd installment of this series was excellent! I really enjoyed that the multiple narrators, it really brought the story to life. I love Layala & Thane & many of their friends. I did not see the twists coming and I can’t wait for the rest of the series!

I can see why a lot of people enjoy these books. It has most of the elements a good romantasy should have. However it missed the mark for me and I had to dnf at 48%
I thought the story was going somewhere original from the first books storyline and then the characters started to digress and too much was keeping them from anything happening. I just found I didn’t care about anyone or anything and that’s a bummer when reading this type of genre.
Fans of JLA or SJM could enjoy this, but the writing style is very different.

This was the second book and I did not read/listen to the first. There were several sex scenes which I could have done without. The story was good as was the narration. Lots of familial betrayal and a twist at the end.

I loved this so much, like I thought I loved book 1, Bow Before the Elf Queen, but I loved book 2 even more!

I want to preface this by saying that fantasy is not my typical genre. This story immediately held my attention as the narrators were amazing! The story itself took me a few chapters to follow as I did not read book one in the series (if you haven't read book 1, Bow Before the Elf Queen, go read it first) but once I sorted the characters it was a very pleasant listen. Mythology, fantasy, Percy Jackson fans are going to love this book!

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Awesome book and a full five star read on audio! The narrator did a great job - I felt I was in a fairytale just listening to this story. I haven't read the first book, but I am going back to it now. This book had characters where they were never all together good, nor were they bad, which makes for excellent character development. I feel I can relate to these type of characters more. I loved the descriptions of the places they were at, it was a sensual, colorful world. Nice to have various voices (male and female) to hear. It makes it a lot better to picture what's going on. The violence was extreme in places but the battles were epic and realistic. This saga will be a hit with all fantasy lovers for those who want to listen to a great adventure in a sequel. Lots of blood spilled, high kings, family sagas, romance and suspense. Five out of five stars!

This book series is full of unexpected twists and turns that kept me engaged from start to finish. I loved Layala's growth as she discovered her hidden power, and Thane's viewpoint chapters were a great addition. J.M. Kearls' writing is superb, with a fast pace that never leaves out important details. I found myself invested in the characters and feeling anxious for them as the plot unfolded. Book one had a romantic focus, while book two was more of an adventure with romantic elements. As for the audiobook, I thoroughly enjoyed the narrations by Bridget Bordeaux and Jake Bordeaux. They did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and keeping the story flowing smoothly. Their voices were easy to listen to, and they captured the emotional depth of the story perfectly. Overall, I highly recommend both the book series and the audiobook narrations.

The narrators were perfectly chosen for this! This series is one of my favorites and listening to it instead of reading it was amazing! It brought the story to life for me! Having the voices behind the characters made it all seem so much more real, I will be checking out more audio books in the future! Loved every minute!

I adored the first book, I was entertained and kept on the edge of my seat. However, not so much with this one. The characters felt completely different from book 1, and particularly Layala. The romance was still an enjoyable aspect of the story but it's clearly not enough compared to the first instalment. At least it was fast paced and the ending did surpass me a LOT! 3 stars

For the fans of fae stories, you will love this one.

The story
This was an epic adventure from start to finish. You definitely need to read thin in order, and you'll gonna need the third book right away, so nothing much can be said without spoilers. We meet new friends and foes as they are introduced along Layala and Thane’s journey, we see new places and creatures, and the romance just keeps getting better.
Overall, this story is about a girl who has to marry the bad guy, but is he really the bad guy? Throw in some magic and you have a recipe for success.

The audiobook
This is an audiobook in duet narration, and for that, it's already worth picking it up. Bridget Bordeaux and Jake Bordeaux are a great fit for this book. Loved each of their voices for each character, and you can really tell who everyone is without any trouble, and that is just fantastic. However, there are some parts that miss the mark and the change in who was speaking was very abrupt. You get used to it, but it bothered me in the beginning. Overall, great narrators and an amazing story.

I'm torn on this review. I really enjoyed the acvtual substance of this book and ended up reading most of it on my kidnlt in addition to the audiobook. The book itself is a 4 star read and I'm looking forward to the next one. The audiobook however, is not 4 stars. If I'm rating purly on the narrator I would mark this far lower. I really could not stand their voice and had a LOT of trouble enjoying the story while listening to it.
