When I requested this book I was unaware that it was apart of a series, one that requires you to read the previous books for this one to make sense. I am unable to read all the previous books along with this one before the publish date. Therefore, I will rate this a fair 3/5 stars and will adjust the rating and review when I am able to read all the books in the series along with this one.

Thank you for allowing me to read this book. I really wanted to like this book but it just was not clicking for me. It was very slow and very hard for me to get through the chapters. I normally enjoy books by Miss Quinn but this was not one

Lovely.

A slow burn to a HEA. We are along to watch Harry and Madeline discover each other and fond their way in the ton together. We see Madeline find her passion ...cause. Watching her take charge in the various situations and seeing Harry and her sisters stand by for moral support was brilliant.

We continue our visit with the Worthington family. They each bring theirvown flair to the stary and the family. I especially like Lady Theo and Lady Mary, those two young ladies are going to cause the world to tilt on its axis when they arrive at their debute. I am excited to see Alice's HEA, she seems to have found her man, but the issues appear to be growing.

This was a first time read for me by this author and it definitely won't be my last. It is the second book in The Worthington Brides series. This is part of a series that is a spin-off of The Worthington books, and you can be sure I will be going back to read those. I do believe it would have been best to start with the first book of this series to better understand the story, but I was still able to enjoy it nonetheless. Madeline is participating in her first season and she has a very specific list of criteria her future husband must meet. It's a very reasonable list and while many suitors will have no problem meeting the criteria, there is one item on that list that is the most important item and that is love. Aside from her list, there is one requirement Madeline's mother insists on, and that is that he be a peer. But no one that meets her list and her mother's criteria seem to meet her requirement of love. There is one man, Mr Harry Stern, who makes her heart beat a little faster. But he is a mere mister, and not a peer. Madeline doesn't care about that, but will she be able to convince her mother?
A very lovely read that has definitely gotten me interested in reading more by this author. I enjoyed the book very much and look forward to continuing the series.

I very much enjoyed the story as well as all the characters. The Worthington family is very endearing and I'm looking forward to Alice's story. Would recommend for historical romance readers.

I adore the characters that Ms Quinn creates and the stories she weaves with details of the period clothing, mores and the day to day life of the upper class and the lower ones. My one complaint is there are so many characters, many whom have several names and titles, that I couldn't keep them straight. A family tree would be very helpful.

The Husband List happens concurrently to the Marriage List. You need to have read The Marriage List to understand what is happening with Eleanor. This book is about one of Eleanor's sister-in-laws, Madeline Vivers. Madeline, Eleanor and Alice, Eleanor's twin sister are all coming out this season. While the three of them made a list of qualities that they want in a husband in the last book, Madeline is being pressured by her mother, to look for a title. Fortunately, her brother is her guardian, and he wants all of his sister's to have love matches. Harry Stern is a barrister. He sees Madeline and it is love at first sight, but he needs to convince Madeline. He receives a lot of helpful suggestions from his many relatives and he is smart enough to listen. It is a charming story of Harry's wooing Madeline and then their setting up of their new household. Witty dialogue.

I thought the plot was very interesting and then i fell in love with the characters. Beautifully written.

This was just okay to me. I would have preferred the audio!

First off, I must confess that I was completely lost in the book because I had not read the previous Worthington books. Realizing that it was # nine was helpful but I needed a family tree to understand each character's place in the family. Needing so much background to comprehend the goings on leads me to conclude that The Husband List is not a stand alone book. Reading in order is necessary.
The List the sisters created reminded me of slumber parties where we all babbled endlessly about what we each wanted in our future husbands. These sisters are serious about the content.
Lady Madeline Vivers is the FMC and she feels that she should be the conventional daughter of the family. She is calm and reasonable and is driven by the need to please everyone in the family She determines that she must marry a Peer of the Realm to please her mother and fulfill the requirements she has set.
Henry is an MP, not a peer, so therefore, not a proper choice for Madeline. He and Madeline follow the rules but Henry doesn't let her know that he is trying to court her. They circled around each other and it becomes a bit tedious. Henry should have let her know his intentions.
I did have a hard time staying in the story. I did not engage well with the writing style. I haven't read any other books by Ella Quinn so I don't know if it was just this book, or if this the typical way the author writes. Madeline and Henry do find their HEA while discovering a that being conventional is not always the best.
I received an Advanced Readers Copy and my review is based entirely on my opinion.

"The Husband List" by Ella Quinn falls short of its regency romance counterparts, earning a disappointing two-star rating.

Set against the backdrop of the Regency era, the story follows the spunky Lady Dakotah Harrington, who is determined to find a husband of her own choosing, rather than succumbing to societal pressures. While the premise has the potential for a charming and independent heroine, the execution leaves much to be desired. The plot unfolds predictably, with little in the way of surprises or depth.

Quinn's writing style lacks the richness and historical detail that often characterizes Regency romances. The characters feel one-dimensional, and the romantic chemistry is underdeveloped, making it challenging for readers to fully invest in the central love story. While there are moments of humor and light-heartedness, they are not enough to overcome the overall lackluster narrative.

In the end, "The Husband List" is a regency romance that falls flat, missing the opportunity to create a compelling and engaging love story in a beloved historical setting. While some readers may find moments of enjoyment, those seeking a more immersive Regency romance experience may want to look elsewhere.

I’m never left wanting by a Ella Quinn novel. This book was delightful and witty all the way through. I can’t wait for the next by the wonderful writer

I really want to rate this book higher as I generally enjoyed the book, but there are a few things I would point out to be improved:
(1) The overall story is about Harry and Madeline and how he really, really wants her and she likes him but wants to please her mother and marry a title. This is such a thing for most of the book until she just decides she wants Harry and that's it. It felt anticlimactic. Also, there are other story lines in the book about a young boy who was sent off to be murdered, and I felt like this was going to be a major plot point but then it just ended about 2/3 the way through the book. If you want to show Madeline and Harry working together for good, wrap up these loose ends,. please.
(2) Perhaps reading the other books in the series would help with this, but there are SO MANY supporting characters that I almost made a list of who is who and why Madeline is calling someone her sister who isn't actually her sister... Again, this may be resolved by having read the earlier novels.
(3) This is a very "sweet" romance. I prefer steamier romances. It's almost overly sweet.

With the above in mind, I still enjoyed the story and read the book over a course of a week or so (about my average reading pace for a book I find interesting, but not impossible to put down).

This book really fell flat for me and I wasn’t able to make it through.
It’s hard to jump into a book that is technically a stand alone when it’s actually number 9 in a series.
I wasn’t into the characters overall and decided to not finish this one.

Marriage is a practical thing in Regency times based on wealth, title, status but the heart wants what the heart wants and if all the items on the checklist for a perfect husband are in alignment, then.................
Lady Madeline Vivers has made her list of what she seeks in a perfect husband. Now it's a matter of culling her suitors and finding her best match.  It's a bit complicated when Mr. Henry Stern albeit very well connected but no personal title and a member of the house of commons no less might be the perfect fit for her except he fails in the most important criteria important to her mother, a lofty title.
This is a slow burn romance with morning rides, balls and routs, afternoon teas, musical evenings and family dinners that bring the various couples together.  In Henry's eyes, Madeline is his perfect fit, she would make a great political hostess and both his family and hers except for her mother are in agreement.  But the fly in the ointment is the duke who is her mother's choice who is courting her.  Can Henry win against the duke?
I kept waiting for some type of conflict or adventure but frankly nothing truly extraordinary comes up. Despite this I actually enjoyed the story as it moved to its inevitable conclusion.  The secondary characters all seem to have had their own stories and while I haven't read many of those, I just went with the flow treating them as an interesting supporting cast.

Always love stories by Ella Quinn. Madelaine and Harry were two characters that drew me into their lives! Can’t wait for the next book!

3.5/5 stars. It was an okay book. It makes me curious about the other books in the series. The main reason I had to take away 1.5 stars is the main conflict of the book being that Madeline is worried about her mother’s opinion of Harry’s lower rank is too played out and is not worth a whole book. Harry is also almost too perfect, there was never any point he made any mistake or did anything that makes him a relatable character. Idk maybe I am just too used to redemption stories at this point. The interest chemistry between Harry and Madeline is nice still and happy I read it.

Lady Madeline Vivers is looking for a husband who meets the list of qualities that she has drawn up with her sisters. Mr. Harry Stern is one gentleman looking to court her, but she’s not sure that he is the one for her. He is ambitious, but Madeline feels he may be too ambitious for her tastes even though he stirs something within her.

Madeline has convictions and convinces a shopkeeper to employ the boy who was stealing from him instead of alerting the authorities. She believes all children should be provided for and Harry witnesses Madeline’s kind heart on more than one occasion. Will he be able to convince her that she is the right woman for him?

I'm afraid this book wasn't for me and lost me within the first 30%. I haven't read the other in the series so it might have removed a fair bit of my enjoyment.

This is the 2nd book in the Worthington Series. It's Madeline and Harry's story. Madeline just wants to have an ordinary life and marriage and feels Harry is not a great match because he wants so much more. However Madeline wants Love more than anything, not a title like her mother wants. Their courtship moves steady and they start to really feel like they fit. This was an easy read.

I almost DNF this one. I found the insta-love didn't work. The characters felt a bit boring. There were a lot of characters from previous books and it added some confusion to this story.
