I was intrigued with the premise of this story but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations. I loved the different points of views and they worked well. It was fast paced with many twists and turns and the ending was so shocking. Excited to read more from the author in the future.

An interesting and original story, I couldn't read this quick enough. Had me on the edge of my seat, needing to read one more chapter!

If you want to read a book about teenagers terrorizing other teenagers for stupid reasons, you’re welcome to read this. And can we talk about the really unrealistic ending

I really enjoyed this book and I think the reason I enjoyed it so much is because I could imagine it happening. You only have to go onto social media but especially tiktok where people with a lot of followers actually believe they are celebrities are all ripping each other apart

First of all, thanks to Netgallery and the publisher for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.

Now, onto the book.

This one is very tricky for me, as I liked it towards the end, but also there are some things that didn't click, in my opinion.

First of all, and this is maybe my fault for not reading synopsis and going with ~vibes~, I didn't know it was magic realism. That put me off a little bit, since I was waiting for a full contemporary thriller. I don't know about that part, and also I didn't understand the explanation as to why that part happened.

Following with the flaws, I think the author wanted to chew too much, adding all the plot lines they wanted, and ended up with a mess. Part of this is due to the strange pacing of the book: slow at the beginning and resolving everything in the last 50 pages, not giving it enough room to develop.

Other than that, I liked the characters. Yes, they're not very likeable, but I think that's part of their charm. Love me some gray, immoral people who do wrong and are not ashamed of it. I loved the resolution and the general read. It's easy and the chapters are short, so it makes for a good weekend book to pick up.

Recommended if you're looking forward a story without any expectations. An easy thriller.

TW: predatory behaviour, self hatred, body issues.

I wanted drama, and this book delivered exactly that.

This was an engaging and irresistible read that effortlessly drew me in. It was just what I needed to break out of a reading slump.

What caught me off guard was that it fell into the realm of supernatural or magical realism thriller. This unexpected twist injected an absurd element into the narrative, enhancing its overall appeal.

The characters were flawed and driven by revenge, possessive, impulsive and often toxic. Their dynamics created an atmosphere that was impossible to resist. The impact the power had on Sophia was to be expected not any less compulsive for it, and the story offered valuable lessons to be learned.

Towards the end, the plot started to lose its grip on me as the peculiar elements escalated beyond comprehension. Nonetheless, I appreciated the satisfying resolution that neatly tied everything together.

Thank you to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of Burying Eva Flores by Jennifer Alsever in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The intriguing premise of two girls at odds, combined with the allure of a mysterious notebook and a tribal curse, immediately captured my attention. The author skillfully incorporated the paranormal element into the story, which pleasantly surprised me. While I would have appreciated a deeper exploration of the characters' backgrounds, I did witness their growth throughout the narrative, which added depth to their personalities. From beginning to end, I found myself completely engrossed in this captivating YA read. It was a quick and delightful journey that left me satisfied.

A smart, taut mystery. I enjoyed the characters' development throughout, and didn't see a few twists coming. My only irritation was the constant "she/he rolled their eyes" - SOOOO much eye rolling was mentioned.

Easy to read, written in a unique format that breaks up the chapters in a fun and interesting way.
Characters are interesting and constantly make you try to guess their motives.

This book was a quick, cute read. I wasn’t sure how I’d perceive the paranormal aspect of the book, but I actually really liked it. The author did a great job of weaving it in. I do wish I got to know these characters more in depth, but did like their growth that was shown. Overall, I think this is a great YA read that kept me engaged from start to finish.

I have previously reviewed the audiobook edition for this title.

This was not good.

The author STRUGGLED to find the teen voice. Nothing about this felt authentic and I could not help but cringe. It was horrible. Outdated and misused slang and just extremely forced.

Also, the use of title character whose name leads one to believe this is about a Latina, was a cheap trick to get readers. There was no need for the character to be Latina, it adds nothing to the story and was extremely deceiving.

POC on your cover and in your titles do not suddenly make your book better.

Very good YA thriller with some paranormal twist. The writing was very good overall, great plot, multiple POV’s. The magic part threw me for a bit but I came around. Would recommend for YA readers
