*I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

The cover and the title really drew me in and made me want to read it, i love the format of this book and the switching between the interview/documentary style writing to switching between the past and present day.

The books plot is a documentary/movie into the disappearance of TikTok star Eva Flores, who is the typical popular mean girl and the girl who is the main suspect in her ‘murder’, Sophia Palmer, who is one of the only girls who doesn’t worship her.

I found the plot very intriguing and the direction it took was surprising and it made for a really good read!
4/5 stars

Thank you again to NetGalley and the author for providing a copy.

i loved this book! the way the narrative switched between the last and the interviews was so clever, and i was surprised by the twist! i also enjoyed the supernatural elements of it, and especially the idea of a curse because of stolen land. i highly recommend!

This is a story, very different to what I have read before. A YA mystery which has some complex character development & rivalry.

The story revolves around a set of teens and is set in the town of Paonia. It is said that the town suffers a curse of indigenous people who were evicted from their lands. Eva is a TikTok star with a large number of followers who eagerly await her videos. She has suddenly disappeared and as the days pass it appears that she may not be alive. The suspicion falls on Sophia, due to their bitter relationship. The Sherriff feels that she was evasive when questioned, but knows he must find the body if he has to establish guilt.

Earlier - Eva had accused Sophia of stalking her – publicly shaming her in a video. Sophia is enraged as she feels it is Eva who is copying her. There are friends including Morgan, Ethan & others and her brother Dylan who watch as the rivalry seems to be going out of hand. Eva’s stepdad is her career guide and keeps up the pressure of her to grow her success. Sophia has a job at a fast-food restaurant and has to tolerate the barbs Eva throws her way when she comes in. Eva’s family purchase the house Sophia and her family live-in and they have to move.

I found the nature of interactions & bitterness building between Eva and Sophia to be very well written and interesting. The snippets of messages exchanged, and social media posts add nicely to the narrative. Some aspects revealed in the later part of the story on Eva’s disappearance came across as far fetched & impractical but there was a touch of charm.

Overall, an easy-going and well-paced relaxing read,

My rating: 3.5 / 5.

Ended up loving this book! At first I was unsure due to the format: interview logs & texts and tv-but it really kept me guessing until the end! Great pace, and excellent character depth! Loved the supernatural element as well! Will definitely check out more from this author!

While Burying Eva Flores has an interesting premise, I'm not really sure what to feel about the overall story. I didn't like the ending, but it's a common issue I have with thrillers anyway. I didn't care for the characters all that much. What I did like were the interviews/mysterious journal aspect.

First off I want to thank @netgalley, @booksgosocialgroup & @authorjenniferalsever for my free ALC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a great listen, I really enjoyed all the narrators and how they made the story feel so real. The strong point of this book for me was the alternating chapters, from different POV's, to interviews, to the book, to articles and text messages it was really engaging.

I was truly hooked to the story and wanted to know how it unfolded. The writing was great. I didn't expect it to be with a supernatural aspect but it was really well done and everything made sense. This book kept me guessing until the end.

The characters experienced lots of growth which I really liked. The characters were so well developed and portrayed teenagers accurately. It reflects on real life issues of teenagers and how social media can truly affect someone, but also how other people around them react to the social media fame. How one person acts is probably a reflection of some underlying issues at home and how to not judge a person based on what you see online.

If you're looking for a fun, fast paced, engaging YA read definitely give this one a try.

Thank you Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for for sharing an digital ARC with me in exchange for an honest review.

Burying Eva Flores by Jenniger Alseve revolves around Sophia, a high-school girl who gets her life ruined by Eva, a TikTok sensation with over 4 million followers. Eva copies Sophia, lies about her and strategically tries to undo Sophia by the seams. The book description gives murder mystery vibes with a pinch of magical realism.

Well, the idea itself is very interesting and has a lot of potential, but the execution of the book went downhill very fast for me. The different medias to tell a story got me hooked at first like interviews or descriptions of TikTok videos. The multiple POVs were incredibly unnecessary since the main character was Sophia and the villain Eva. So, I still have no idea which aspects of the story they should explain further. The chapters were short, which I really like, but in the end the whole story was rough around the edges and it felt dragged out way too long.

The characters. Oh boy, I couldn't care less for them except for Dylan, Sophia's brother, but at the end of the book he wasn't ever mentioned again? You have one good character and you neglect him like that? No, thank you. I don't know the characters just feel like so shallow. They are teenagers but they still have a personality usually. They literally annoyed the hell out of me.

This book wasn't a winner for me. Maybe it is better for a younger reader, but I personally didn't enjoy it.

I was a bit disappointed in this book. There is just a hint of the paranormal that is utilized to move the plot along. It's basically a teen angst novel with a mystery attached.

The plot devices the author uses - multiple povs, interspersed interview format and short, chunky chapters - added a little interest at first but didn't do much to advance the plot.

This wasn't a bad book, it just wasn't for me.

Who killed Eva Flores??

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Read if you like:
☠️ YA murder mystery
☠️ group of friends who-dun-it
☠️ dual timelines
☠️ multi POV
☠️ short chapters
☠️ multiple story-telling format

Eva Flores is dead, and everyone knows it was her “stalker” Sophia. Eva has 4 million followers on TikTok and her friend Sophia is totally obsessed with her and copies everything she does. Or does she?

I love this format!! This book is part narrated story and part text transcription put in chronological order of video interviews conducted. It makes the story much more enjoyable to read those other POVs thrown in there a little bit. There were even other things included like comic strips and pictures and stories written by some of the friends, and it made it a really fun read!
This book was very structured and made it super clear which POV you were currently reading, and what time period you are reading 💕💕 Nothing is worse than when it isn’t clear what you are reading, I spend more time trying to figure out where I was or who’s currently talking than I do reading the story.
I love a dual timeline thriller! There’s something about the jumping back and forth and slowly releasing tiny pieces of information that makes for a very exciting read for me! I love putting all the pieces of the puzzle together myself and hopefully I can beat the narrator to the murder! (I never do 🤣)
All of the characters were terrible and I didn’t like a single one of them 🤪 Any one of them could have been the bad guy and I wouldn’t have been surprised.
There was a weird sub-plot here that was a little far fetched and strange to be honest; I did not love the story writing part…
It’s such a small thing but I really like when chapters have titles ❤️ It gives me a little hint about what is to come.

Twisting, turning story with an ending I never saw coming! I never could have predicted the outcome of this story. So many scandals and secrets that will keep you turning the pages wanting to know what happens next! Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book! Such an interesting story.

I was drawn in by the cover of this one but didn't love it like I thought i would. It seemed like it was meant to give off mystery vibes and thriller vibes but it wasn't a winner for me.

I believe that this was supposed to be thriller vibes but I didn't feel it here rather felt like it was some kind of a gossipy vibe novel?

I was excited to start this because of the synopsis but I would say that it did not give me what I hoped.

I didn't have a problem with the writing in general, mostly the pacing and how it was utilized. Those aspects would be the overall execution of the plot, the consistency and of course the overall performance of the story.

The first few chapters of the novel was interesting, it was pretty gripping for me, however, the start of the 45% and some of the 55% up to the end was frustrating and at the same time parts where I still don't know how to feel yet.

It also felt so long most of the times with the alternating povs, it would have been better if it just focused on Sophia to make it more suspenseful.

As for the characters. Definitely hated a bunch of characters SPECIFICALLY RILEY AND EVA. LET'S NOT FORGET THAT STEP-FATHER AND SUB-PLOT AROUND IT, I HATED IT.

Final Verdict. 50/50. Could have been better.

When popular girl Eva Flores is found murdered, Sophia becomes a suspect. Eva was a popular TikTok star who loved to torment Sophia, but that doesn't mean Sophia killed her. Alternating between police interviews and the past, it uncovers the truth about what happened to Eva.

I liked the structure of this book but I felt like it was slow to build. A little more fast paced and I would've really enjoyed it!

This was such an interesting book! I loved the premise of the awful, self-absorbed TikTok star vs Sophia and her friends. The characters were written so well that I could clearly envision them and their motives in my head. I stormed through this book in just one day, I couldn’t put it down.
This is my first book that I’ve read by this author and I’ve immediately gone and added a ton of her others to my tbr list!

If you love mystery/thriller books, I highly recommend this book! I liked the layout of the book, mixing interviews with different characters to dig in deeper. The characters were great and it kept me guessing to the end. This is a must read.

Thank you NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC

I'm gonna be honest and quick about this because despite my mixed feelings, I find I don't have a lot to say about this book.

The story basically surrounds two girls: Eva and Sophia. it alternates between "then" chapter pov's and then "now" interviews with the same characters.

Eva Flores is essentially a famous tiktoker who has a kind of rivalry with Sophia (our main character), and the book goes from that point to talking about the disappearance (and possible murder) of Eva, and how Sophia is the main suspect for the same.

For me, this book felt kind of meh.

I mean, it's not bad, but it's not a wow either. It's just alright.

I like the turns it takes and that it does make the attempt to take things at a deeper level and add depth to it's characters.

However, I also think it is way too slow paced. i can pinpoint certain points of the book where things actually happen and while some of the other chapters I found uninteresting are still NECESSARY to the plot, it doesn't make me like them more.

Also there's just questions I have about some of the concepts in this book and I'm not sure if they count as plot holes but I did want an explanation, or atleast better hints at what it could be.

Overall, it's not a bad book and it's a good enough read but i find myself craving more.

What a twist! This book kept me searching the entire time!! I loved the present day along with going into the past. It all tied together nicely with no confusion. Lots of surprises for me which I enjoy. I hate being able to predict the story so this was a treat!

This was a great murder-mystery novel, it had what I enjoyed from the genre and I was invested in what was going on in the story. The characters were well-written and I enjoyed the way they were realistic. I enjoyed the way Jennifer Alseve wrote this and am excited to read more from her.

"This was the moment where Eva was supposed to tell her that she wasn’t fat. She had to tell her mom she was beautiful. If she didn’t, her mom would pout, then … the tsunami. The rage and the despair and the violence—the chase. “What the hell did that mean?” she would demand. “You know you aren’t so goddamn perfect yourself, you little bitch. Just wait for age to get you.”

Jennifer Alsever, Burying Eva Flores ⠀

Burying Eva Flores by Jennifer Alsever is such a unique book! The author skillfully weaves together text messages, emails, police statements, and character dialogue to create a rich tapestry of supernatural suspense. There was an underlying eerieness to the story that was punctuated by references to indigenous folklore and ghost stories. Eva and Sophie were equally as infuriating as they were sympathetic and I had a hard time rooting for either one but I was so pleased with the end of their character ARCs. The twists and turns of this YA thriller come hard and fast as the story progresses and kept me on the edge of my seat. The brutally honest commentary on social media, bullying, and the teenage experience is a vital part of the book and is executed with a precision that cuts to the bone.

This New Adult novel focuses on Sophia, who is determined to get revenge on the new girl in town who seems intent on ruining Sophia's life. Eva is TikTok famous, rich, and popular, and Sophia is finished being pushed around by her. When she is gifted a journal that seems to manifest whatever she writes in it in real life, she begins to enact her plans to show everyone who Eva really is.

This book was a fun read that gave the characters a lot more depth than I first anticipated! It dealt with issues like poverty, abuse, and the pressures of social media while weaving in a bit of magic. This book really humanized not only Sophia, but Eva, demonstrating how we often don't know what someone else is going through and often things are much more complex than black and white ideas of good and evil.

I wasn't completely satisfied with the inclusion of a Native American curse as a plot point--I think horror/thriller replies on this trope and I don't find it compelling, especially with so much solid, culturally-grounded Native American horror written by Native American authors out there working against the proliferation of these tropes. In this book, the curse was a minor element (a bit of a confusing one that seemed not completely folded into the plot), but it's important to note.

Overall, this book does a great job of bridging the genre gap between YA and Adult fiction, with characters who are on the cusp of young adulthood and dealing with what that looks like. I'd recommend this to people who like thrillers with slight supernatural elements and some commentary on social media in our world today.
