This was such a good audiobook! I enjoyed it to bits and pieces. Especially when you travel with the train and can just drift into the story, it's the best feeling ever. From the way this story was narrated to all the details of the story, it was fantastic. I don't know if someone gets it but it has a bit of a Nancy Drew ambiente which I loved. Totally fantastic.

This was a great book. I really enjoyed the narrator and how the characters were portrayed. The mystery was good. I didn't suspect the killer until the end.

Thank you, NetGalley, publishers, and Harper Kincaid for gifting me a copy of A Midsummer Night's Scheme in return for my honest opinion.

2.5/5

Chad Hurt is back in Vienna after becoming a Broadway actor, he is known throughout town as a jerk who has broken more than a few hearts. When he is found dead from a bag of venomous snakes that someone had placed in his car, the town is once again placed in the middle of a murder investigation. But this time Quinn is staying as far away as possible! That is until the same person starts targeting her brother as well. Can Quinn track down the killer before someone else is killed?

This is the second book in the Bookbinding Mystery series, I really enjoyed To Kill a Mocking Girl but this one was a miss for me.

Let's start with what I enjoyed, I loved how Quinn and Aiden were in a relationship from the start of this book. In other cozy's we might have had to wait 3-6 books for the main protagonist to land her man but Harper did not disappoint! Even though it ends with a sort of question mark.
Now for what I didn't enjoy. They introduce Daria as a new narrator and it wasn’t needed and really doesn’t add that much to the storyline. If anything at times it made it more confusing due to the two main characters interacting so much throughout the book. There were many times I forgot who the voice was for certain chapters. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy her as a character, I mean a crime-solving nun, it’s definitely a new one. But if anything giving her her own series, not throwing her into this one would have made more sense. Her confusion and hesitation do not fit the cozy vibes.

Speaking of cozy vibes the last thing I want in mine is politics and religious conflict but for some reason, the author felt it was important to throw that in there. When I read a cozy I want to get that warm and cozy feeling and be able to forget about all the conflicts in the world not be reminded of it.

There is also a lot of random information that doesn’t add substance to the story it was almost like she needed a time filler. She is trying to fit as many pets and animals into the story as she can and it doesn’t work. For example the story about how Daria’s furry friend escaped and how she worried about him, in my eyes not necessary. At points, it seemed like she was trying too hard to be unique and witty.

I will give her another chance because I did enjoy the first of this series but if the next one is anything like this one I will probably give up on the series.

I really enjoyed this second book in the Bookbinding Mystery series. I loved the way the author interwove Shakespearean literature with the story line. I also liked how she put the MC's brother in danger to up the stakes in finding the killer. And, it has a lot of recipes in the end of the book! I want to thank the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for giving me an e-copy of this book, in return for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Bookbinding Mystery series and was pretty easy to follow even though I haven't read the first book.

I received both an e-Arc and audio Arc of the book and I ended up listening to the book more than reading it. The narration by Renee Dorian was pleasant and livened up the book.

Overall, it was a decent cozy mystery with the first victim getting killed in a disturbing and crazy manner. What a horrible way to die!!

I was a bit put off by a particular scene involving Quinn's parents, her brother Sebastian and his fiancee which included a conversation about Sebastian and his fiancées religious beliefs. Not every concern or viewpoint expressed (political or religious) is necessarily an 'anti-feeling' or 'phobia'.

My thanks to NetGalley, the publishers Crooked Lane Books and Dreamscape Media and the author for both the e-Arc and audio Arc of the book.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐💫

I have not read the first book in the Bookbinding series. However, I will probably go back and read it. And, to be honest, I believe you can read the second book and not be lost in the story. Lots of twists and turns will keep your attention. The characters are well developed and I enjoyed the relationship between Quinn and her cousin who is a nun. And who doesn’t love a German Shepherd companion. A fun cozy mystery that has you guessing until the end.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. I am so upset and sad that all these cozy mystery novels are going so woke. To me these books are supposed to be light hearted and almost Hallmark type stories and now the past few months I have noticed they have gotten more and more liberal. And I am tired of it. I am going to have to stop listening to them I guess. I don't care to hear about the authors beliefs and her political opinions. Just write interesting novels.

Not sure it quite warrants 4 stars but it is what it is. There are some ridiculous moments in this series so far between book 1 and book 2. But I love RBG, Ruger, Sister Daria, and Quinn and Aiden's sweet romance so I'll stick with it. I do enjoy the audiobooks and they're very quick listens.

I really loved this book in a new to my series and author. I can't wait to read the next one. The characters and location really add to the plot. This book keeps you guessing until the end

I read book 1 when it first came out and liked it, but wasn't sure I wanted to continue the series. So many books, so little time. But I decided to give the audio book a go, and I am glad I did. For me, this series entry is stronger than book 1. The plot structure and mystery feels tighter, and I enjoyed the dual viewpoints of Quinn and Daria. I also appreciated the details of Sister Daria's experience as a novitiate and the drama around Quinn's brother’s intention to convert to Judiaism, especially compelling. If you read cozy mysteries for the sleuthing, this may not be the series for you. But if you like characters and setting with a little edge and quirkiness and some fantastic cozy companions, give this a try.

If you’re a fan of cozy mysteries or just fun reads, Quinn Caine and her pals, Ruff Barker Ginsburg (a dog), and Sister Daria (Quinn’s cousin) will keep you on your toes.

When Chad Frivole, a local boy who made it big, returns to town people are talking, but not as much as when Chad dies in his fancy car full of snakes! 🐍 Chad was a player so there is a list of people who may have wanted to do him harm.

Even though Quinn promised Detective Aiden Harrington she’d stay out of it, Quinn and Daria do some snooping of their own - especially when someone threatens Quinn’s brother with spiders. 🕷️

Each chapter begins with a quote from a Shakespeare play, helping to set the mood. Although there are some cute elements here, as cozies tend to have, this has a variety of character storylines, plus a little romance, and anti-semitism added to the mystery itself.

Overall a delightful mystery and an entertaining nod to Shakespeare.

I feel like this book and this series was tailored to me. Honestly. Cozy mystery, yes please. Theater kid, yes please. I'm all in!

I honestly adored this book. I already went to #Libby and borrowed the first book in the series.

In this book, a Broadway star returns home to take the stage, but when someone is murdered the town is thrown into an upheaval. And when Quinn's Brothers life is threatened, she gets roped back into solving another mystery.

Seriously, this book is so slept on. If you're a cozy mystery queen like I am. Please go get this series! I'm in love!

@reneedorian's voice in this book is PERFECTION. I love when one person can pull off all the voices and I'm not pulled out of the world cause its not quite right. It was fantastically done!

Thank you to @netgalley & @dreamscape_media for the ARC audiobook. I love having access to authors and narrators I haven't had or heard of before!

🎭The Shakespeare quotes at the start of each chapter

What I did not like:

I enjoyed the narration in this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advance audiobook of this title in exchange for an honest review.

I didn’t realize when I first got this book that it was the second in a series. I try to avoid later books in a series I have not started yet, but this one shared enough of what had transpired before to catch me up.

The cast of characters was fun! Bookbinder Quinn, her cousin Sister Daria, her boyfriend Aiden, the rest of the family, and the rest of the nuns! And of course the dogs.

The cozy mystery had plenty of entertaining twists, though this book may not be for those who “don’t like spiders and snakes”, as the old song goes.

I don’t feel the need to go back to the first book, but I am looking forward to the third, especially as this one left off on a big cliff-hanger!!

While I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my review, all opinions remain my own. Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape media for the opportunity to listen.

This story was what I call a "cozy mystery." It is set in a small town, with a fun cast of characters. This is book two in the series, but you don't have to have read book one to know what's going on. When a book includes the pets and they have names like Cindy Clawford and RGB, how can it pawsibly be bad (get it!?)? I loved the relationships between the characters, both familial and not. It brings out the small-town values but also the hard parts of being in that same small town. This was a quick read but didn't make it any less enjoyable. I would be more than happy to pick up another of Kincaid's books to listen to.

Meh. The characters are unmemorable, and so is the story. The only interesting thing in this book is the first murder which is so absolutely ridiculous that it lacks believability. When the reveal of the murderer comes, it is also completely unbelievable. It's just an utterly forgettable book. I didn't care about anything or anyone. The references to Shakespeare make no real sense and the theme of them doesn't go with anything in the book. It's just all messy. I might read another book by this author, but only because I will have completely forgotten that I ever read them before.

A Midsummer Night's Scheme is an interesting, cozy mystery. Quinn, who repairs books at her parents' bookstore, is our amateur sleuth of the series. Along with her sidekick cousin, who is also in the process of becoming a nun, makes things extremely interesting. Together, they find themselves in some situations that are both laughable, and you wanna shake your head up. When a person who has left town returns as a Broadway star he not welcomed with the open arms that I get the impression that he was expecting. Not too long after he is found murdered. Meanwhile, Quinn has some stuff going on at home that is both good and bad, and is needing to find its way to work itself out. Now Quinn and Daria, along with the help of Quinn‘s detective boyfriend, are on the case to figure out the mystery.

I found A Midsummer Night’s Scheme a different type of cozy read, but completely intrigued, my interest. We have a wonderful small town, setting, animals that we love that also make the story that much better. Amazing characters with great personalities. I love that Quinn’s cousin is becoming a nun. It adds a different flare to a story that we’re not used to or I should say I’m not used to. But it adds a different perspective. All in all, this was an enjoyable story and I would definitely go back and read the first book in the series.

Thank you to the author, narrator, publisher and Net Galley for providing a free e-audio version of this title in exchange for my review.

I love cozy mysteries and was excited to start this one out. This is book 2 in a series, and I have not read book 1, but felt like I missed nothing. The recap at the beginning of this one filled in a lot of gaps.

This is a typical cozy with cutesy names and small towns, large groups of friends and big families. But it was a bit gruesome and included details of murders, phobias, religion and casual references to panic attacks that are not usually found in true cozy mysteries. I wonder if this is a cozy for a younger reading group.

Though it wasn't a bad story, I really didn't care for it. I couldn't connect with any of the characters or keep the details and names clear. I don't think I will continue this series or look for others by the author. I cannot think of anyone I would recommend the book to.

2 stars for 'it was ok'

A Midsummer Night's Scheme is the second book in the Bookbinding Mystery series. I'm so glad I read this book. The story is just fun and totally entertaining!

The basics: Quinn Caine's life gets a bit chaotic when a famous actor returns to their town. Chad was a real jerk when he lived in Vienna....and he's pretty much still a complete jerk when he comes back to flaunt his Tony award winning career and lifestyle. His womanizing bad behavior doesn't get much of a change to pop out, as he soon turns up dead. When the killer's next target seems to be a family member, Quinn finds herself on the trail of a killer. Can she catch a murderer before the curtain comes down on her own brother?

This book was just fun to read. I loved the mix of light hearted humor, wit and cozy mystery. I like the characters in this series and the book related background plot. The mystery moves at a nice pace. There is plenty of sleuthing, suspects and twists. Loved it!

I am definitely going to keep reading this series. Very entertaining!

I also listened to the audio book version of this story. Narrated by Renee Dorian, the audio is over 7 hours long. Dorian gives a great voice acting performance bringing to life the mystery and humor in this story. I enjoyed listening to this story in the car and while working around the house. Definitely a very enjoyable audio book! I had a review copy of the audio and also checked it out via my lovely local library on Hoopla so I could listen on my computer as well as on my phone.

**I voluntarily read a review copy of this book from Crooked Lane Books and audio book from Dreamscape Media. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.**
