I loved another of Effie"s adventure! In this adventure Effie and her friend Garance help to find a missing mermaid. Also Effie is finding more and more about herself and her magic. From talking to animals, to time travel and what is this combat magic? I can not wait for the next Effie story!!

I love this series, as do my students! I cannot wait until it’s out so that I can add it to my classroom library. This book had it all with magic, mermaids, talking animals, and time travel. Definitely a good read especially if you like the series!

This graphic novel was just as good as the other ones in the series! This graphic novel will definitely be added to our collection. It is the perfect upper elementary/tween fantasy graphic novel!

I have really loved this series and the unexpected twists and turns in each story! This one was fun with mermaids (loved the body positivity here), time travel, talking to animals, and discovering new powers! I love that Effie keeps her friendships even when her besties aren't at the same school with her. I also love when she and Garance work together using their powers! Such a fun series!

I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH. I love how Effie’s evolution isn’t quick, but rather a slow progression and she’s learning through experience. I also love that she’s totally leaning into the help from those around her. Sure, she’s impatient, but she’s not doing harm! Not real harm anyway.

I also really loved that instances would be referenced and then there was an asterisk to reference one of the previous books! I thought that was really great.

I cannot WAIT for the next one!

Another wonderful addition to this series!
I love the continued incorporation of messaging about caring for the environment in the series. This title shines a bit of focus on littering and beach clean up.
There’s even a small message about social media and influencer culture that may be helpful to some as a reminder of the importance of being present in real life and kind to those outside of devices and apps.
Fans of the series will love how much the world and the magic expand in this title with mermaids, time travel, and talking to animals. I would recommend reading the others in the series before this one.
Great for fans of the Okay Witch series.

The Witches of Brooklyn are back, and going for a time walk! When a mermaid goes missing it’s up to friends to discover where - or when in time - the mermaid could be. Full of humor, heart, and love, this charming and inclusive story of found family continues to delight!

Another fun adventure with Effie, this time involving mermaids. To really enjoy this book I definitely suggest reading the other three books in this series. The story continues and a reader would be lost if they haven't read the previous books. The art is colorful and full of details. The text is easy to read, with a fun and funny plot. Likable characters and fun adventures.

Is there anything the Witches of Brooklyn can't do? Effie and Garance go on a trip to Coney Island. Effie's new ability to hear certain animals causes her to overhear something about a mermaid. After that, she must meet a seer about her future. Things combine and the only way to solve the problem is time travel! Also, Effie meets an animal friend who helps her refine her ability to talk to animals.

This is another fun adventure in the Witches of Brooklyn series. Readers will cheer for Effie and Garance as they work to solve yet another mystery, but this time, not one they accidentally started. The plot is plausible in this world and readers will want to know what happens to Effie next. What do the words of the Seer mean?

Such a fun addition to this series! I love the themes of light and dark magic and how we can choose what to focus on and how to use our gifts to better this world.

I love this series sooo much and I enjoyed this particular volume. This graphic novel is for all ages and made me laugh a couple of times. I loved those rude seagulls. I hope Sophie keeps going with this series.

Effie's turning 12, so it's time for her to take the next step in her witch training and visit a seer to find out her future as well as her magical skills. It's also time for her to return to school, along with her witchy friend Garance, and on their field trip to Coney Island to clean up the beach, Effie overhears seagulls talking about a missing mermaid -- who turns out to be the seer's sister.

Another delightful outing in the Witches of Brooklyn series. I'm glad to see that Effie is growing up a bit more, curbing some of her attitude and really working on developing her powers.

As always, great graphics, fun characters, and a good story. 4 stars.

Thank you, Penguin Random House and NetGalley, for providing an eARC of this book. Opinions expressed here are solely my own.

Thank you to @RandomHouseChildren's for the Arc. I had not read this series before but I am now a fan. The story has rich fantasy of magic, mermaids and family. The pictures are vibrant and beautiful. Will have to get the series for my Library.

I still find it a cute series but enjoyed the first few more than this one. The story line for this one didn't pull my attention as much as the earlier books in the series.

I received an arc from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
It's a new school year, and while some of her friends are going to different schools, Effie and Garance practice more witch training. When Effie meets the fortune teller (a mermaid), she's frantic because her sister is missing. Effie and Garance take charge, and with the help of a talking turtle, they might just save the day. Time travel mixed with rambunctious seagulls makes for a fun adventure in this fourth book in the Witches of Brooklyn series.
She's a bright and curious witch in training. I loved Effie's relationship with her two aunts and her friendship with Garance. Fast-paced and a lot of fun, Spell of a Time, the fourth adventure for Effie, is magical with a bit of mayhem. Fantastic colors and witty dialogue come together for one thrill ride of an adventure for Effie and her friends. Effie has her hands complete from the sister mermaids to magical spells, but they can overcome anything with Garance.

My favorite of the series since the first this one follows the young witch and her confidant as they battle to rewrite history and it flowed so well. I enjoyed every panel.

Effie and her friends are back for more magical hijinks in Witches of Brooklyn: Spell of a Time!

Summer at a magical camp is over, school is back in session, and Effie is now twelve. With the help of her friend Garance, Effie explores her newfound magical abilities and adventures to Coney Island to track down a missing mermaid.

I've loved the other installments of the Witches of Brooklyn series, they're some of my favorite children's graphic novels and so much fun to read. This fun next entry to the series navigates ecological impact on the world from pollution and the ways we can help combat it while also exploring the overall magical world of Brooklyn. As always, the art in these books are adorable, with rich, full-color illustrations that leap off the page. I really enjoyed reading about Effie's magical abilities and learning more about the world!

I struggled with the slow build-up to the plot in this book, it took until about 50% for the plot to really build enough to keep me focused on the story. I normally really enjoy time travel as a plotline, but this felt a little muddled and unnecessary, especially since it just proved that Walter was better off without his boyfriend. His boyfriend being characterized as a self-absorbed, pushy influencer rubbed me the wrong way as someone who also does social media for a living. It felt like a tired caricature that's been overdone too many times before and could have been changed. I did notice that the main characters felt more one-dimensional to me in this fourth book.

Overall, I didn't enjoy this one as much as I did S'More Magic. While the art was still beautiful and the story had it's funny, lighthearted moments, I think I prefer the other books in this set. I'm hopeful the fifth book will rekindle some of my joy for Effie and answer some broader questions about her abilities as a witch.

Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Children's, and Random House Graphic for providing me a copy of this book for an honest review.

Much thanks to Netgalley for the e-arc!

I've come to love this series because there's not only lessons to learn from the adventures of Effie (and later Garance), but their zany adventures often make me laugh even in the midst of the peril they get into sometimes. I found myself laughing quite a bit in this book because there were parts that were generally hilarious. As for the story, I felt like it had less of one than the previous books. I mean, Effie and Garance helped find a lost mermaid, but I felt like there wasn't a really integral A and B storyline. It just felt like just another day which isn't necessarily a bad thing! This book almost felt like it could've been tacked on to book 3 as a mega volume because it just continues Effie's journey of discovering more about her powers and her potential. But don't get me wrong, I did love it because it was light and fun and I needed that.

I loved this! I've enjoyed all of the Witches of Brooklyn graphic novels, and am happy to say that this one is also wonderfully charming.

I liked learning more about how the community of witches works, and watching Effie learn to master her new gift of talking to animals. The mystery was fun, and the time travel element added another layer.

I'm already looking forward to the next one.
