This is an unsettling dark psychological thriller that had me all mixed up and thoroughly intrigued. How far would you go to protect a child? For Lisa there was only one answer, she would do anything within her power to ensure her daughter was safe. I loved that I was questioning every character's motive, and trying to figure out how everything fit together the whole time I was reading and I wont easily forget that ending.

Another fantastic read by Sam Vickery! Really fabulous. Kept me turning the pages at warp speed. I found the characters to be well-drawn and multi-dimensional and didn't see the twists coming. Loved this!

There are so many twists and turns weaved through out the entire book that you will gasp as you start to see what is going on. I loved the ending and can't wait to read more by this author.

I enjoyed this twisting thriller and the vast number of secrets that weave through the story. Although I had predicted some of the plot developments, this did not stop me becoming intrigued to understand whether Lisa was really as innocent as she claims to be.

The book opens with a family enjoying their dinner when the doorbell rings and the police arrest Lisa on suspicion of the murder of her neighbour Russell, who was killed in a hit and run accident. Victoria is married to Russell and they have been friends socially with Lisa, her husband Mike and their children Holly and Jack but not great friends as Victoria seems to think. Lisa is released pending further enquiries but is later rearrested and charged with Russell’s murder. We gradually learn that Victoria has always been secretly jealous of Lisa and Mike as Russell made her life miserable as he was very domineering. After his death she finds evidence that makes her think he had been having an affair and suspects it could have been with Lisa. So whilst Lisa is in prison Victoria makes herself indispensable by cooking, washing and cleaning in Lisa’s house and taking over. Lisa is eventually released from custody as she reveals she had an alibi for that night. So who did murder Russell? This was a book full of secrets, betrayal, revenge and red herrings and one I couldn’t put down.

I enjoyed my first outing with Sam Vickery!
The book started brilliantly, and I was hooked immediately.
Then, as the characters developed, I felt the pace slowed a little. But not in a bad way. It allowed the characters to take centre stage and the story could add tension to the end.
This book has definitely made me look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC I gladly received.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I had lots of emotions for Victoria and Lisa and flitted in between who was responsible for the death of Russell. I even had a thought it was Lisa's son at one point! the tension mounted.

I was put off and annoyed with Victoria's behavior towards Lisa's family when she was in prison for the second time. i started to wonder if the family would have welcomed her in so readily? It didn't seem logical, and i would have liked to have experienced more from Mike and his conversations with legal representatives, just to know more of his journey I guess.

I'd definitely read more of this author, it was a shame I couldn't find her on Instagram to engage with her further about this book.

Great job!

A dramatic start to the story when the doorbell rings during dinner and Lisa is arrested for the murder of her neighbour and best friends husband Russell.
The story is told mainly through Lisa and Russell's wife Victoria point of view. The dramatic start keeps you hooked in. At times the pacing is a little off and the plot is a tad predictable in places. As the story unfolds and you learn more bout the relationship dynamics you start to feel for lisa and understand whats going on more. I loved the way Victoria was developed she was the more complicated and her story arc was really rewarding to read. I started really disliking ger but grew to understand and feel sorry for her.
I enjoyed the book from start yo finish. The various twists and turns were good. Whilist I fully understood the ending I was a little disappointed as i feel it could have been diffrtent.
A good solid 4 star well worth a read but you need to keep woth it.
Thank uou for my arc netgallery

am Vickery has written a gem, this is everything I hoped it was going to be. It’s definitely been a book that delivered on every level.

I loved how this was written, I found myself completely pulled into the pages and unwilling to put this down.

This is from the perspective of two very different perspectives. I can safely say that I wouldn’t have been as patient as Lisa.

I loved the pace of this one. It is definitely one that has been completely unpredictable and engaging from the start.

There was no way I could’ve predicted what was going to happen. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

Wow. What a twisting turning speeding train. This one starts with a bang and holds you tight till the very end. The characters were wonderful and relatable. I was able to guess part of the plot but it did not detract from the enjoyment of the story. This book makes you feel all the emotions for the characters. Absolutely well done. Every angle is covered and the story is tightly woven and flows at a perfect pace. A seriously amazing read

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this advanced copy. I give this book 3 stars, it is a good thriller, but a little slow going. I was impatient to find out exactly what was going on and there was a lot of other things in there to make the story longer.

I always find with this author Sam Vickery, writes from her heart and all her books I have read are beautifully written from start to finish. So when her new book came out called The Guilty Mother by Sam Vickery I had to make sure my kindle was charged as I knew I will be stuck to my chair and end up reading her latest book in one or two sittings. This book was no different, I ended up reading it in one sitting, This book was brilliant from start to finish especially as it was a dark, and so gripping page turner that will have you gripped from the beginning till the end. It was full of family secrets that will come out throughout this book!

I highly recommend all of Sam Vickery's books especially this one. A brilliant book.

Big Thank you NetGallery and Bookouture for providing me with an ARC of the Guilty Mother in return for an honest review.

Lisa and Mike Grey live in Dragonfly Close with their two children, Holly and Jack. Across the street are their good friends, Victoria and Russell. They have spent many years enjoyed one another’s company.

One day, the police come to the door and arrest Lisa for the hit and run death of Russell a few days earlier. Lisa is terrified and upon the advice of an attorney, she responds with “no comment” to the questions put to her by the detectives. After an overnight in jail, Lisa is allowed to go home but is still considered a suspect.

Victoria has always been a stay-at-home housewife and she and Russell never had children. She is convinced that Lisa is innocent and ensures Mike and the children of that fact.

When Lisa is arrested again, Victoria steps in and begins to take over Lisa’s kitchen and loves caring for her family wishing they were her own.

An interesting read yet I couldn’t ever decide if Lisa was innocent or someone else killed Russell. That left me confused. I wish I could have discovered that one way or another.

Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
