Lisa lives with her husband and two teenage children and all are close to their neighbours Victoria and Russell across the road. One Sunday whilst having lunch the doorbell goes and in walk the police to arrest Lisa for the attempted murder of Russell- a hit and run. Lisa’s car has been missing since the evening that Russell was killed. Both women it seems are harbouring secrets. Just what is going on?
Oooh! This drew me in very quickly and kept me turning the pages- to me the skill of an author. Even in the beginning when the reader knows little of the plot line the tension is cleverly woven into the descriptions. I thought I had guessed the premise, however this in no way spoiled the execution of the story- was I right? No, I wasn’t-perhaps not as there are several twists and red herrings. It's a clever plot line where there are a couple of suspects along the way, and the drama of Lisa being hauled into the police station several times is very well described and builds the tension even more. A brilliantly written highly enjoyable read. Cant wait for the next one from this talented author.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. This book was good, but I had it figured out after about 10%. The book did contain some suspense and twists, but it was just very predictable to me. That being said, I would def recommend it as not everyone will figure it out so quickly. I am def willing to keep reading books by this author as well.

Lisa and Mike have lived across the street from Victoria and Russell for almost two decades. Over the years, they’ve shared many meals and spent countless hours visiting over drinks in their back gardens. So it comes as quite a shock when Lisa is arrested for causing the hit-and-run accident that kills Russell.

This is the kind of book where it’s better not to know too much going in, so I won’t say more about the plot so I don’t give anything away. This domestic suspense is a real page-turner, alternating between Lisa’s and Victoria’s POVs, with twists and red herrings sprinkled in to keep the reader guessing. I thought I had it all figured out, but not so fast! The very last twist definitely surprised me!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me an advance copy of this book.

“The Guilty Mother” by Sam Vickery is a thriller. This book opens with a murder (by who and who isn’t clear) then an arrest. So that was a bit sudden but captured my attention (thanks for “shooting the sheriff” in the opening Ms. Vickery). Then the story becomes a bit suspenseful - who did murder the person, why was the person murdered, is there something going on underneath the happy home, and is someone being framed? While I figured out rather quickly who committed the murder (there’s a limited cast of characters) and even the why, I kept wondering about the title … the last chapter explains it all. The characters are very easy to keep separate, which was appreciated. I did wonder why there were flashbacks to how the two women met their spouses (to be honest, I don’t think they added much to the overall story), but I can see how some readers might appreciate those chapters. An enjoyable book that kept me wanting to read more.

Good book! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, intrigue, murder, mystery, A kind of a who done it, and a few crazy twists and turns that I did not see coming! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

I found this psychological thriller to be perfectly crafted, as it kept me turning the pages. The story introduces all the main characters at the beginning, making it easy to follow and stay engaged. I was surprised by some of the plot twists, and the red herring was particularly effective. The epilogue was a great way to wrap up the novel.

I liked it! The Guilty Mother is a quick, page turner read. The descriptive, well written chapters, are easily followed. The numbered chapters include a timeline and identifies from which character’s point of view the chapter is written. You won’t know exactly why the mother’s guilty until the very end. I look forward to reading other books by Vickery.
Thank You to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Sam Vickery for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.

This talented author has written a cannot put down novel. The characters are realistic, and the story moves quickly. I kept guessing who was guilty. Red herrings threw me off. The two women were secretive and not honest. The two husbands were not that great. The husband killed on the hit and ran was my least favorite character. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and author.
