I'm usually a great fan of time travel books but this just didn't work for me. I found it tricky keeping up with who was who. Couldn't empathise with the characters at all. Sorry.

This is a really haunting book and out of a few I've read this month, this is the one that has stayed with me. It does time travel beautifully, giving the Wang family the chance to meet their relatives, exist in other times and see the stories they had been told (or not) about their family members decisions acted out in front of them.
It explored the Wangs experience of emigrating to the UK and the losses and gains that sort of trip gives a person. I loved the characters and the way the book dipped between decades. It takes you straight in to their weird and wonderful lives from its great first line ‘The last time the Wangs travelled back in time together…’ to the jarring final chapter. The book is intriguing and poetic in its writing and layout and as I read the final lines I was thinking ‘what just happened there?’. Highly recommend.
