This is an interesting, comprehensive look at fibre art -- I don't think it's quite suitable for a beginner or an early hobbyist picking up something new to try, but for those who already have some skill, or who are really interested in diving in deep, there is a wealth of information. Some of the focus is on sustainably using existing fabrics which is good to see.

"Hook, Prod, Punch, Tuft" by Lynne Stein is a captivating and inspiring book that explores a wide range of creative techniques using fabric and fiber. With its concise yet comprehensive approach, this book is a valuable resource for both beginners and experienced artists seeking to expand their artistic horizons.

I was super excited to read and review this book as I’m interested in all things fiber art. I am brand new to the rug making medium and found the book very beginner friendly and a great introduction. It features step by step directions with pictures along the way so it feels much more intimate that reading from a page. My only criticism is that some of the step by step photos seem a little DIY and could have benefited from better editing or studio photography.

This is a amazing collection of jaw-dropping fiber art that should rock your world and get those creative juices flowing!

Stein presents a wealth of techniques, combining bead, buttons, and found objects in her rag rugs, punch needle embroidery, and even latch hook to create many projects from pins to full-size braided rugs. Her designs are brilliantly colored, and wildly imaginative.

You don't even need to be a fiber artist to be inspired by the ideas featured here..

This one wowed me, and I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy.

The author, Lynne Stein, provides readers with valuable advice on materials, tools, and equipment, as well as step-by-step directions for 20 different projects that explore playful design and quirky creativity. The instructions are accompanied by vibrant instructional photographs that make the process clear and easy to follow.

One of the highlights of this book is the emphasis on sustainably repurposing fabrics, yarns, and other precious and useful items that might otherwise be discarded. This aspect of the book is particularly relevant in today's world where the focus is on reducing waste and being environmentally conscious.

The inclusion of a list of international museum collections and examples of the work of historical and contemporary artists and designers is also a great touch. It not only provides readers with inspiration but also gives them an insight into the rich history of the traditional textile craft of rag rug making and other techniques.

Overall, this book seems to be a valuable resource for both new and established crafters who are interested in exploring the traditional skills of hooking and related techniques. The emphasis on sustainable practices, along with the wide range of projects and ideas presented, makes this book a great addition to any crafter's library

There are some really artistic projects in this book and it’s very thorough about the history of all kinds of hooking and prodding and such, but I think this book is better suited for experienced fabric crafters. I was hoping for basic information on how to use recycled fabrics for rug making and this is more for making intricate art with all different tools and materials. I’m afraid it’s way over my abilities and budget. It will be a great source of inspiration for those who do these crafts already and have some experience though.

I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.

The author of this book is clearly talented, but is perhaps trying to introduce too many different techniques in one volume. The reader is introduced to rug hooking, punch hooking, needle felting, prodding, braiding and tufting. The descriptions of each are very short, and while there are pictures of each, there are no pictures or descriptions of what happens underneath the surface. In actuality, it is especially hard to visualize the process of punch hooking without showing the back of reverse of the material, because it is usually punched on the reverse side. It is also helpful to see underneath for rug hooking and proddy.

Things like the cost of this hobby and the general supplies needed to easily do the hobby were glossed over, or were slightly dated (at least in the US). Two such examples are there are a number of fabric cutters that do not need to be clamped, and burlap is generally not recommended as a backing anymore because of longevity. Also, I wonder about the durability of some of the suggested projects mentioned in the book -- a latched hooked chair cushion probably won't last very long. I reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy , but while there were some clever and diverse sample projects included, there were no patterns that readers could easily copy to work on. That issue may be resolved in the printed copy, however.

Overall, this book was slightly disappointing, but might be on some interest to fiber artists, especially in the UK.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an Advanced Reader's Copy.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was an interesting book! It covers the history of making rugs and tapestry as well as their historical uses. The book also has information on the process, how to make projects like rugs, and what the fibers are made of. It's a surprisingly thorough book that touches on how these materials have been used and how to use them today. It's not quite what I was expecting, but had lots of interesting information.

I have completely geeked out on this clever fiber art book! I’ve been a fiber artist for over 15 years and have recently gotten into needle punching. I didn’t expect this book to have much more than what I have already seen, but WOW, I am SO inspired by the projects, materials and ideas in this amazing book! I feel that there is something for every level of artistic capabilities. It really is set up to inspire play at all levels. Huge fan and highly recommended!
