I was highly disappointed in this book. I felt there was so much potential with how this book could have been written. I felt like so many unnecessary things could have been left out or expanded in different areas. I figured out the mysterious man that kept stalking Faith rather quickly. I wish this would have been a story that I enjoyed, but it fell flat for me. Did anyone else feel this way about this book?

A paranormal thriller? Buckle up!!! Books with paranormal aspects are not my typical type of reads, but this was well executed and I really enjoyed the circus setting. I did see some things coming, but overall didn’t take away from this story!

Faith has grown up in the Harrington Carnival and loves her life with the performers--but they haven't always loved her family back. A strain of divinatory curse seems to afflict some of the women in her clan, and the rest of the circus seems to think having death=predicting soothsayers hanging around is extreme bad luck and probably not great for business. Her grandmother Daisy was more or less banished when she spoke of a tragedy she foresaw, and Faith, having acquired the same "gift" as a child, has experienced similar visions --and their consequences in terms of being ostracized from her carnival friends and family. Now a pariah with no income, Faith must find a way to pay for her terminally ill mother's home care, and along with her best friend Betsy, they hatch a scheme to capitalize on Faith's gift. But what happens when in one of her "Oracle of Death" visions, it is Faith herself who is seen wielding the knife responsible for a stranger's death? This is a fairly straightforward thriller with a hint of the supernatural and a twisty bit that I will admit I saw coming about 3/4 of the way through, and I won't say what it's about or who it pertains to, but if you're paying attention to what's there in front of you--and maybe what's not actually there--it will fall into place for you as well. I thought this was a fairly compulsive read weaving together ideas of fate and destiny, family and tradition, and death and loss.

Thank you NetGalley and Ms. Golding for a chance to review "The Sight." The overall concept of the book was interesting. Ms. Golding definitely hooks the reader in at the start of the book. Though, I did find parts of the book to be repetitive and many parts seemed to drag on.

3.5 stars.

This was a quick, fun, and “spooky” read. The circus setting was incredibly well done and immersive. I can’t lie…. I did cry a little bit, and I was not expecting those ending twists!

I’d definitely recommend this for a binge read, and I feel like it would be a perfect fall read too. Like let’s bust this bad boy out during fair season!?

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC <3

Working on her family’s circus, Faith hides her most unusual trait. When she makes eye contact, she has visions of the other person’s death. After an incident, she uses her gift and sets off a chain of events.

Melanie Golding is one of my favorite authors and this book was no exception! She has a way of writing with magic, that’s not always explained, but works perfectly in the setting she created. Speaking of settings… anything better than a circus setting? I loved her unique trait and how it all turned out. There was even an extra twist I wasn’t expecting.

“We are the masters of distraction, of directing the gaze of an audience, of manipulating what they see and don’t see.”

The Sight comes out 9/5.

A horror thriller book that has some interesting visions with a touch of magic. I liked the description and I liked the idea of it. The writing did not grip me into the book, so that was a little disappointing. I did finish it with hopes that each page, it was going to live up to its description.
Solid 2.5 but I’ll round up.
Thank you to the publisher for letting me read this on netgallery.

I really adored the main character, Faith, but the other list of characters were just awful and even worse in their treatment to Faith. Otherwise, it was an entertaining read and focusing on the dynamics of putting on a carnival.

This is probably more of a 4.5- 4.75. The ending really helped push it over the edge for me! I love these kind of stories, with an edge of the supernatural but still firmly grounded in the real world. Our main girl, Faith, loves her life as a circus performer, but she's viewed with suspicion by the rest of her troupe because she has a special ability: when she looks a person in the eyes, she can see exactly how they'll die. Her companions live in a constant state of fear and superstition of her, and when she accurately predicts the death of a local celebrity, her life is turned upside down. The only constant in her life is her friend Betsy, who supports her through everything.
I wasn't sure at first what to make of the premise here, but I was very quickly sucked into the story. I read Golding's earlier novel, Little Darlings, and enjoyed it, but I think I preferred this one. The setting and premise was so unique, and the supernatural elements woven so well between the strands of Faith's day-to-day life, that I was completely enthralled. I loved the twist at the end, as well. I think I actually gasped out loud. There are themes of family here, as well as lessons on remaining true to yourself and working through childhood traumas. If you enjoy mysteries with a touch of the supernatural, I highly recommend picking this up when it's released in September!

3.5⭐

The Sight is a story of Faith, a traveling circus worker, who has the ability to see a person's death when she looks into their eyes. The synopsis sounded promising, it sounded truly thrilling. Unfortunately, it wasn't.

I love the book's cover, and the circus setting. The ending was okay, though a bit forced. The entire middle was just overwrought conversations and a petty family fued. I wasn't able to really connect with any of the characters, save for Betsy, which is pretty funny. I think the inaccurate synopsis on Goodreads really sets the reader up for disappointment. I liked it okay enough, and would read another from Melanie Golding.

As a child, Faith, foresees the death of her brother and discovers that she has inherited an ability to see other's deaths. Despite being part of a traveling carnival, her gift is seen more as a curse resulting in a struggle to find performers and earn income. When she uses her gift to help a friend she is banned from the carnival, the only life she knows, causing her to go to dangerous lengths to earn money which leads to a vision of a man's murder. She must embrace her gift and learn to control it if she wants to escape her fate.

The Sight is a new novel by Melanie Golding which follows a carnie worker, Faith, who is able to see others death. Her gift brings fear to the other performers and results in her losing her job. The plot was intriguing and I liked the character but for some reason I had a hard time getting through this one. I'm not sure if it was the writing style or maybe it was just me but it felt like the story was really dragging at several parts and I mostly just felt tired trying to get through a few chapters. I think other readers will find this one more enjoyable than I did... another it's me not you read.

My favorite thing about this book was the cover. The description should be changed since barely any of the story actually covered that topic. Maybe I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I wasn't expecting the whole story to be about what it says in that description. Otherwise, the carnival setting was well done and detailed. The author is a good writer and has a lot of potential. This just wasn't it for me. Three Stars.

I would equate this novel to "the silent patient" with some paranormal/circus twists.

I really enjoyed this book, it kept my attention, and I was able to easily read the novel. Thinking back after the ending the twist at the end makes sense, but it certainly caught me off guard. There were a few characters that lacked development, but at the same time did not impact the story too much. The main character Faith was a want to love, but frustrated with her choices type of character, but the ending helped support the way she was written.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a psychological thriller, and/or those that found the Silnet Patient enjoyable.

Thank you to Crooked lane Books for the opportunity to read rage and review this arc which is available Sept 5,2023 for purchase.

Holy mother of Pearl y’all but this book was creepy as all get out! It’s about Faith who can see how people die and has been able to since she was a child. She foresees a family tragedy and was ostracized for it but Faith learns how to control these epically creepy visions she returns to her family’s traveling carnival. All goes well until an unruly customer attacks her and she has a vision in full view of the crowd which leads her to be banned and loses her only source of income to support her dying mom.

So she does what any desperate person with freaky abilities does…. She throws caution to the wind and uses her gift to make money.

This book had twists and turns and an ending that shocked the hell out of me! Loved it!

Wonderful and so atmospheric! I liked the writing and was utterly gripped by the characters too. Highly recommended, and not just to thriller/mystery fans, but everyone who enjoys a good, dark story.

Thank you to Crooked Lane Books and Netgalley for the ARC of The Sight. I'm leaving a voluntary review.

The premise of The Sight was really intriguing and I was really drawn to the books description, however this one fell flat for me.

I personally really struggled to get through this book. I was intrigued with the synopsis of this story but it just fell flat in my opinion. I liked that the book had short chapters and was overall a quick story. In my opinion, there was too much about the circus and not enough about the visions. This book was marketed as a thriller but it did not feel that way to me. Since the writing was good, I believe that this will be a great book for some...just not me.

I was captivated by the characters and the story of carnival life, but the plot seemed never completely to take off. I kept waiting for something to happen. Overall enjoyed the read, but it left me wanting a little more.
