Having heard amazing things about EMDR is was really grateful to be provided an ARC of this workbook.
It gave great background into how EMDR came about and is a fabulous resource to accompany someone through their therapeutic journey with a professional .
Thank you New Harbinger and NetGalley for this informative, really interesting ARC.

Thank you New Harbinger Publications for the E-ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

I had no idea what to expect with this EMDR Workbook. Though I have completed some EMDR myself in a therapy environment. I definitely feel like it is always a good idea to see a therapist as you complete this workbook. However, this book is such a great resource for those doing EMDR. I felt like I was way more mindful of the process of EMDR as I read this book. I recommend this to anyone who wants to have a more tangible way to go through therapy. Often times in therapy we do not get handouts or worksheets. This is a great way for patients to reflect and go through EMDR exercises on their own after an appointment. I would hope that more therapists might consider offering or referring patients to using this valuable resource. I also think this would be a great book to also listen to through an audiobook.

This book is well written, informational, accessible, and practical. It hits all the high notes for what I would want in a workbook and I like having EMDR being brought in as a tool that can be used at home. The activities and reflections are accessible and meaningful. I’d recommend this book.

I received an ARC courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. The opinions are mine alone.

I was intrigued by this workbook as I am currently in therapy for PTSD and using the EMDR technique in my sessions. It was great to read how this technique was developed as well as how its helped so many.

Before I jump into my review, here's some background info. I have received a C-PTSD diagnosis. I'm currently utilizing EMDR with my therapist. I completed another "round" of EMDR with another therapist previously to this.

This workbook offers a great overview of EMDR, it's concepts, and the coping skills that many you have been through trauma-informed therapy will recognize. The organization of the material was well executed, building each section upon the last. I was very worried that this workbook might encourage people to jump in out of the gate with some self-treatment EMDR sessions, but it did not. Instead, the reader is encouraged to get comfortable with bilateral stimulation by simply being present or by focusing on more positive thoughts and images. Overall, I think this workbook would be great as an accompaniment for anyone currently receiving EMDR therapy or for those who are trying to determine if this therapeutic approach would be right for them.

I do want to caution that some of the later exercises start to touch on more negative emotions or experiences. Personally, I wouldn't recommend using EMDR by yourself for those purposes. It's really easy to get overwhelmed and having someone guiding you through those hard parts is very important. In a similar vein, I think a chapter (or section of a chapter) should have been dedicated to emotional regulation more thoroughly, especially by helping the reader understand their own window of tolerance. This way, if someone did attempt the more intense exercises, they would be more likely to recognize if they were starting to experience hyper- or hypoarousal. An understanding of these windows could minimize the likelihood of someone causing themselves mental anguish by pushing themselves too hard.

I'm new to EMDR, and this was a great introduction into the method. It gives a lot of the background information alongside some methods that will get you started. Even if you're a total newbie, this is a fantastic starting point.

ARC REVIEW NETGALLEY

This seems to be a well thought out and mapped out book, but in the netgalley version everything is cramped together, hard to follow if actually trying to work it like a workbook. I’m interested in seeing the final version in print, giving allotted space to use as a workbook, and have a more clear workbook format. I would recommend this to my friends and fellow coaches therapist etc. even to pair with a therapy yoga routine

Trauma and PTSD can be debilitating for the people that suffer from them. Especially if you leave them untreated. This workbook is a great place to start. EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is a proven treatment for trauma and PTSD. Instead of just treating the symptoms with medications, this workbook helps you get to the root of the problem and start working through it, providing lasting results. I have attempted therapy before for my trauma, but I always felt like we weren't really getting deep enough. I do still think therapy is a valuable resource but this is a great supplement and allowed me to dig a little deeper. I highly recommend this workbook, although I would prefer it as a physical book as opposed to an ebook.

Having recently received a PTSD diagnosis, I thought that this workbook would be timely. Unfortunately, it felt a lot like the concepts that I already learned through my Bachelor's program for psychology. Also, the fact that the links did not work made it kind of useless. But I appreciate the intent to help.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I went into this book anticipating a workbook that would only touch on the surface but the workbook forced me to address trauma I knew and trauma I discovered working through book. The book is ideal for everyone working through trauma . I enjoyed the layout of the book, how the author forced us to face our trauma. Cannot recommend it enough.
