Almost gave up on this one because the bickering between the two families was petty and annoying. I’m glad I stuck it out, though, as I always love when people come around and start to get along and although it took a while, it was a satisfying conclusion to the book. The main characters were cute and I enjoyed getting to know them and their families. All in all, a good beach read.

The moms of Evita and Ryan have been enemies since high school. With the feud Dating all the way from the moms high school years, it makes it impossible for Evita and Ryan to act on the crush they hold for each other. However when there is a mix up and the two families are forced to share a cottage at a vacation destination, perhaps now is the time they can seize the opportunity. But keeping peace amongst the warring feud deems harder than expected when no one is willing to let go of the past.

A cute and fun romance with a dual POV from Evita and Ryan. I really enjoyed the chemistry between the two and the flashbacks to their high school years. While I really enjoyed the romance aspects, I couldn’t’ get pass the petty fighting and really felt like the feud overshadowed the fun parts of the book. And when you find out the reason behind the longstanding feud, you realize how silly and immature it is.

Overall, I did like the book and the portrayals of the family dynamics as well as challenges you face when trying to blend everyone together. Ryan’s relationship with his sister stole my heart, I rooted for them to make things work in order to form a bond they both longed for.

I wanted to love this book more, being a Latinx living in Massachusetts, but it ended up just being ok and quite forgettable. The feud between the families was quite childish and the way these grown people behaved was something I couldn’t get past. This felt like a Disney channel movie where the characters should have been in high school and not grown ups with… can we even call this generational trauma?
The story was fun though, I enjoyed the representation a lot and even though I wished there was more romance in it it was still quite cute.

This was sweet but so, so frustrating. The overbearing parents went past concern and stayed in the ridiculous zone. I don't think I've ever heard of such a petty grudge being held for so long. Ryan and Evita were adorable and clearly were meant to meet again at this vacation. I would also be upset if my planned family vacation was invaded by unwanted guests. But so many of the family members wanted to make the best of it--while a small few made it miserable for everyone. This was longer than it needed to be but the narrator did a wonderful job. Thank you to NetGalley for an audio copy.

This was a very fun take on a "Hatfields and McCoys" type family rivalry. I was a little worried about this one since the reviews were not glowing but I was charmed by it. Where their mothers a little much? Absolutely. Overall, this was a fun one perfect for the warming weather.

Right Girl, Wrong Side by Ginny Baird
Multicultural romance.
A mistake is made at a charity event which ends up with the Hatfields and Machados staying in the same vacation destination cottage the exact same week. They decide to split the house down the middle and have alternate dinner times to help keep the two families separated. Evita and Ryan are independent adults now and were friends in high school. Now the attraction between them is reignited. Getting the rest of each family to spend time together rather than alongside each other will be a monumental task.

Most of the animosity is between the matriarchs of the families and the rest follow their lead.
It’s touching and sad and ultimately heartwarming. A family affair.
The epilogue is complete and several years into the future. It covers the full family on both sides from oldest to youngest.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook version of this story narrated by Karla Serrato. The performance is lively and engaging. There isn’t a wide range between make and female, but you can hear a clear accent difference between the mothers. The Spanish accent is very well done and sounds authentic. The children’s voices are artificial sounding and frankly, a bit amusing. I listened to the audio at 1.5 which is my preferred speed.

This was a charming read, and I enjoyed it overall.

With that said, there were a few things that I didn’t like about it. For example, this wasn’t a young adult novel; yet the characters acted very young, and even let their parents dictate what they could and couldn’t do, like a couple of teenagers. To be honest, I kept forgetting it wasn’t a young adult for that reason alone. I also didn’t like how there was more time spent on family drama than the romance itself. It was beyond frustrating at times.

Nevertheless, I liked the characters involved, including their sometimes infuriating mothers; and the plot was entertaining. I just wish it included more of that romance that I was promised, that’s all.

All in all a delightful read.

Evita and Ryan come from families with a long standing rivalry, and have already lost a chance to date in high school. Now when both families are forced to cohabitate for a week due to a booking error, they grab at this opportunity to reconsolidate and explore. But will they be able to convince their parents to give their pair a chance?

The title makes no sense to start with, but in the end, it clicks perfectly! The cover too, is gorgeous, i must add (a prime reason for picking up the audiobook)

Ryan and Evita make for the perfect MCs and I absolutely loved their chemistry. Seeing their families interact is so realistic and damn fun seeing they are literally polar opposites. After completing the entire book, it is obvious the effort Baird put into shaping the characters. I wasn't a bit disappointed by the backstory and every person- from baby Louisa to Kendra. I loved the dynamic between the Machado's in particular.

Coming from a country with vibrant culture and cuisines, the expression and flow of that in Right Girl, Wrong Side is pure delight. From their speech, to noisy presence to the loud songs, everything screams Machado. The Hatfields though milder and less assertive also have a big hand in the external events.

Though this is by no means a mystery, it keeps you guessing more than the average rom-com. I'm glad I dove straight in without reading the blurb, because that just added on to the listening experience.

Speaking of which, Karla Serrato is an excellent narrator, and believe this book was tailored for her. Her tone, accents, and flow make this an unforgettable journey and I refused to click pause on my audiobook. If you can buy the audiobook, please do, I promise you won't regret it. And definitely grab your copy ASAP!

Many many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for giving me this dreamy listening pleasure in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, a pretty cute romcom over the backdrop of a mostly harmless interfamily feud.

Even though there were some cute moments, I never really got invested in the story. I think part of it is that I never fully bought into the family rivalry. It felt a bit too contrived. And I think another part was that although this was definitively not instalove, Evita and Ryan's romance felt a bit instalove-y from the reader's perspective because so much of their history happened years before the beginning of the book.

This was still a quick, fun read though. If you like second chance romance or family rivalries, you might like this.

A modern day Romeo and Juliet tale told from the perspectives of Evita and Ryan, whose families have unintentionally found themselves on the same holiday, at the same time, in the same house. Under normal circumstances, this wouldn’t be ideal, but thrown in the decade-long feud between their mothers and sparks are flying. Honestly, the whole thing seemed super stressful and I was ready to chuck their parents into the sea myself but Ryan and Evita worked together to try and put out fires and resolve the tension. It was interesting to see the different dynamics in the families and how we can sometimes long for what other people have. I also liked how they didn’t shy away from the tough conversations, which was pretty inspiring. They showed it’s possible to open up and to inspire (or demand) change and respect, whether that’s within your own family or with your nemesis.

There were lots of fun moments in the book and some sweet moments between Ryan and Evita but the bickering and fighting did get a bit much for me, lasting the majority of the book, and I would have loved to have spent more time with Ryan and Evita and for their romance to have been a bit more centred in the story. A little more chemistry wouldn’t have gone amiss, either.

I received a free copy of this book. All views are my own.

I want to start by thanking Dreamscape Media for granting me access to Ginny Baird's latest audiobook Right Girl, Wrong Side. Ginny Baird is new to me as an author and as I listened to this audiobook, I ended up looking up her other titles. I am so excited I have many more to read.

This novel follows Evita Machado, who is eager to get to Nantucket and enjoy a vacation with her family. Newly heartbroken, Evita is hopeful the trip will help mend her heartache. When Evita, and her ever growing family arrive, the house exceeds their expectations, but it all comes crashing down when they discover they aren't the only ones there. It's genuinely the worst case scenario, Evita's former crush, Ryan Hatfield is there with his family, which includes his mother... Evita's mom and Ryan's mom have a long-standing feud. The rivalry leads the two women to bicker about all the details of having to share the house, from splitting the house in half, to who gets access to common spaces when. The most important part, their kids are to remain apart. What happens when children defy their parents? Unlike the moms who see the feud as clear as day, their children are less clear and see aspects of the other's family that are unique and appealing.

Evita and Ryan have never forgotten each other and the curiosity of what could have been continues to haunt them as they spend time together during their family vacation.

This was fun. as an audiobook and the pacing was fast. It was over almost too soon for me! I enjoyed the varied family experiences and cultural differences that were celebrated in Baird's book. My only frustration was how drawn out the moms made their stand0ff. Their kids have known each other since high school and are well in to their own professional careers with families of their own now.

Right Girl Wrong Side

Pub. date: March 28/23
Format: Advance Listening Copy 🎧

When I first started listening to Right Girl, Wrong Side, I thought I was going to love it. The narration by Karla Serrato is fun and lively. I love how she emphasizes words and brings the characters to life. Similarly, a story about warring families ending up being in close proximity for a week, sounded fun. Unfortunately as the book went on I began to feel uncomfortable but I didn’t know why. All of the characters are interesting and likeable however, when it came to Evita and Ryan, they seemed more like teenagers than the young adults they were supposed to be. When I came to this realization I began to think this would be better as a YA romance instead. I think in that format it would make a lot more sense and would have received a higher rating in turn.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook.

I had SO MUCH FUN reading this!! The beginning was strong and took you for a ride! It got slow for me towards the end, but overall a fun, fast read! The two feuding families stuck in the same cottage for a whole vacation?! Two mothers trying to keep their son and daughter from falling in love!! Lots of arguments and laughs. Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the opportunity to read in exchange for a review!

I liked this one ok, the feud was a cute concept but present day felt so immature. I don’t think this will be memorable for me but it certainly wasn’t bad. I listened to the audio version and enjoyed the narrator but would have loved a male narrator as well.

This is a second chance romance story between Evita and Ryan.
Evita is looking forward to a family vacation in Nantucket. But when they arrive, they find another family there, who just so happens to be her mom's rival. They'll have to find a way to coexist for the week.
Feels like a modern take on Romeo and Juliet. But the reason for rivalry felt very silly and not worth the 30 years of rivalry.

Audio rating: 5/5
Romance: 2/5
Chemistry: 3,5/5
Spice: 0/5 (it's a clean one y'all)
Drama: 5/5
Humor: 3/5
Cry factor: 0/5
Suspense: 0/5
Foul language: 0/5

How I felt:
- I listened to the audio for this one and I loved the narrator. The story revolves around a Spanish speaking family, so having a narrator with a Spanish accent was the cherry on the cake! She did both family (american and Mexican) voices very well. I loved that about the audio, we got all the Spanish names in Spanish with the correct pronunciation. It just made it more authentic and enjoyable.
- The story itself was ok. It's not so much a romance, but a family drama story with a bit of romance. This only means we're going to get those hilarious moments, fights, conflicts with both families. Being a romance reader, I was hoping to get more romance then drama. But it worked well.
- I did love our young couple. They were trying hard to get their mothers to forgive each other and find the truth about what happened all those years ago. As well as growing as a couple, with their stolen moments away from the whole family confusion - these were very sweet.
- I also loved the siblings with the newborn - it really gave a real view of what it's like to have a baby and it's not all lovey-dovey, goo-goo-gaga moments. It's tough!

Overall:
- This is a clean, proper family drama with a touch of romance. It had it's funny moments.
- It's definitely for the younger readers out there, you'll enjoy out young couple working to make the relationship with their family work so their own relationship can too.
- The audio was great, and I suspect it will be a page turner for the younger generation.

Tropes:
- Enemies to friends family
- Family drama
- Multi-racial couple
- beach holiday
- Forced proximity
- Second chance

After bidding on a week long vacation in Nantucket, both the Machado family and the Hatfield family receive notification they won the prize. Both families arrive at the cottage to claim their prize. The families dig in their heels and refuse to leave, forcing a contentious week ahead. Evita and Ryan have known each other since they were kids. Will they be able to turn this vacation around, and smooth things over with their families?

I enjoyed the story, it was cute. The relationship between Evita and Ryan had flashbacks to high school and felt genuine. The repetitive nature of the mothers forcing the families apart got old and repetitive. I understand the author wanted to reiterate the dispute between the mothers, but I found myself rolling my eyes every time they told their kids to stay away from each other. Maddie was my favorite. The relationship she builds with her brother is heartfelt.

Overall, the character growth and relationships that were built carried this book.

Holy rival family drama mama!

Featuring ~ dual 3rd person POV, rivalry between the mom's, forced proximity, forbidden romance, secret crushes from high school, h & H now in their late 20's, no steamage

Evita & Ryan's moms have been rivals since high school. Now they both win the same vacation house at an auction and are forced to spend the week together. Thus sets forth the dividing of bedrooms and scheduling of when they can use certain rooms and items.

Oye, this was something. The younger generation acted more grown up than the parents did. I never understand why parents think they can run their adult child's life and have a say in who they date. Didn't they raise them to have a proper head on their shoulders and know what's best for themselves? I hope I have done so for my child. Anyway, I did really liked how Evita and Ryan tried to keep the peace and get to know each other again.

One part that bugged me ~ the one mother wouldn't give up their beach umbrella, that they weren't even using!, so a baby could have shade. That's not very motherly. Just petty.

Overall, this was more frustrating than exciting for me. Happy there was not a for the birds 3rd act break up at least.

Narration:
Karla Serrato ~ 9 hours 42 minutes ~ fine job. I'm a broken record again, but I would have loved a male narrator for this one. There are quite a few characters staying in the house and it would have been easier to keep track of whose family they were apart of if we had 2 narrators.
