Evita and Ryan and the rest of the Hatfield/Machado siblings were adorable. I loved how close and how much fun the Machados were, and how they included the Hatfields despite their moms’ decades-long feud. The feud was an interesting backstory, but the present day adults’ childish tantrums (the beach umbrella‽) seemed a bit over-the-top.

If you like the star crossed lovers idea of Romeo and Juliet, without the dumb teenage antics, you should check this out. A modern version of the Hatfield and McCoy feud, this sweet romance takes the forbidden romance and adds in a forced proximity. Not just of the two main characters, no. Of their whole dang family. Drama level is high, the antics had me shaking my head. Entertaining for sure, if you like closed door romances, check this one out!

The Machado family is prepped and ready for vacation. Evida is ready for a break from running her own flower shop to unwind and relax with her family. Her mom won the weeklong stay from a charity auction, so all they had to do was provide the travel. But as they descend on the rental house, they notice a car is there. It seems there was a mix up with the charity and two people were notified that they had won. And the other family is the Hatfields, with whom her mother had been feuding with since high school. But Ryan is also there, her high school crush who see was forbidden to see (lol like she listened). Are all the sparks anger, or is there more?

Right Girl, Wrong Side was such a sweet, wholesome read! There is no spice, and this is a romance that is as much about the families as the couple. I loved Evita and Ryan and how they were so determined to get their families to be reasonable and heal - and not just so they could be together. I loved the sibling dynamics and the realistic portrayals of generational challenges, sibling dynamics, and new parenthood. The relationships were all just well done and it was a great summery environment for all of this to play out. I hope there are some companion books for this cause I really enjoyed the dynamics! 4.5 stars.

Low on spice but high on sugar. I ended this book homesick for a place I’ve never been! I don’t know if the area really drips with this level of loveliness, but I need to investigate posthaste! This makes a good marketing tool! The Hatfields/McCoy, Capulet/Montague plot line here is stretched just a little to make the drama between the moms work, but the women are clearly feisty and determined, so it’s not unbelievable. The relationship is sweet & has a refreshing tenderness. This will probably make a good substitute for some of my younger high school girls who have bought into the CoHo booktok craze because they don’t know about romcoms yet & aren’t ready for all of the CoHo energy. The narrator was good. The transition between accents & pronunciations was done well.

If you’re looking for a sweet, second chance romcom with light drama this is a great option.

I liked Evita and Ryan’s relationship. It’s got “it’s always been you” vibes. The building of their relationship was fun to follow but slow pacing had me speeding up the audio at times.

The conflict/drama in this book is mostly family based. Their mothers had a long running feud since high school. It felt reasonable at first but got more immature/childish as it went on.

I really enjoyed the juxtaposition of the two families.

This was a light and sweet summer romance about two rivaling families forced into sharing a beach house rental for the week in Nantucket. The mothers of both of these families have been rivals since high school and kept their kids apart to continue keeping their families separate from one another as adults. Little do they expect that their families will be reunited and forced into each other's company for a whole week, but romance is blossoming between their children as the week progresses.

This was a light hearted beachy read, perfect for anyone who's in the mood for a summer read or looking forward to warm weather. Many thanks to Netgalley for an advanced audiobook recording of this book. The narrator did a great job with this sweet romance! All opinions are my own.

Read this if you enjoy:
-light hearted romance
-rival families
-second chance romance
-forbidden romance
-loud and large, vivacious family vs small uptight family
-sweet and swoony kisses

Thank you to Dreamscape Media for the early copy of this audiobook via NetGalley. These opinions are all my own.

If you're looking for a closed door, sweet, second chance romance, this is a GREAT option.

First things first, I DO think this audiobook would have benefitted from dual narration, but that's a minor complaint...and pretty much my only one. It's overall fine, but I do think a male narration would have been nice - since we do get Ryan's perspective.

When I started this I thought it was going to be a retelling of Romeo and Juliet - a war between families, and the kids who just wanna be in love. But other than that, this really had nothing to do with Romeo and Juliet at all (I say this as a good thing). It's really a lot like "You Again" where the women in the family seem determined to hate each other.

Evita and Ryan's mothers have hated each other since they were in high school. But this didn't stop Evita and Ryan from becoming friends when they were teens, even if they did have to keep it secret. Though they both wished for more, their mothers intervened and they went their separate ways and haven't seen each other since.

Cut to a week long vacation in Nantucket where both mothers think they won the highest big on the beach house. And both families show up. Ryan's family is small and uptight, and Evita's are like a tornado swirling through the house. They decide to share the house for a week, and tensions. are. high.

Except with Evita and Ryan who are falling back into the same easy feelings they had as teens, all while trying to keep their families from ripping each other apart.

Mrs. Machado says a couple times that all of the Hatfields are the same. And they will betray you and disappoint you and backstab you. And I REALLY worried there was going to be some issue that crops up where Ryan does something that makes Evita distrust him, but NO.

There were no miscommunications.
There was no shady business.

It was just two characters that liked each other and seemed determined to be together despite their families.

Delightful.

I love a book and an author who realizes you can create tension without the characters doing something you'll later have to redeem them for.

3.75 stars rounded up to 4 because, really it deserves it for not having any sort of miscommunication or betrayal plot.

What a fun book!

The feud between the Machados and Hatfields dates back to when the mothers were in high school going after the spot of class President.

Evita and Ryan had a bit of a spark in high school, but their mothers squashed that in a hurry. This hilarious forbidden romance has both the Machados and the Hatfields winning a timeshare vacation on Nantucket. There seems to be a mix up and they are asked to make the best and share the vacation.

The mothers have no intention of making nice, although neither family wants to leave. They bicker and can't agree on anything, except that they don't want Evita and Ryan to get any romantic ideas toward each other.

Evita and Ryan decide to team up and try to find a way for the families to get along. And during the time working together, romance sparks.

Both these families were entertaining, and the book was filled with humor. Just a feel good, romcom that made me smile!

Many thanks to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca and Dreamscape Media for both an ARC and ALC in exchange for my honest review.

I think I forced myself to listen/finish this. The narrator wasn’t very…well she was very ‘bland’? No emotion whatsoever and at times I think I could’ve gotten a better reading if I asked Siri.

Somehow I didn’t like Evita. She was dragging on her ex being very goal focused and wanting someone goal focused, and is that really such a bad thing?? I don’t know…

And the mc’s romance felt kind of childish at times…

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC audiobook

Right Girl, Wrong Side is predictable and immature, but still entertaining. Two rival families won a vacation to a beach house. The only problem was there was only supposed to be one winner and now it’s double booked.

The mothers of both families have been rivals since high school and it’s up to their children Ryan and Evita who have had a crush on each other also since high school to try to keep the peace.

The relationship between Ryan and Evita is very well done. They used to like each other as kids now as adults they start to slowly show their feelings. It’s a slow burn that’s worth it. Their story I really liked. It’s the family rivalry that I did not like and found just too immature.

The families literally draw a line down half the house they are in and pull you can’t cross this line childish game. It really angered me that a book with such a good relationship had such an immature supporting cast.

As a rom-com, I still do recommend it. There is just more to get through than you would like.

A modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet. I kind of went into this book blind and didn’t realize what it was. I never enjoyed the story of R&J so naturally it wasn’t intriguing for me.

I listened to the audiobook, and it was hard to follow along with all the different nicknames. The plot and characters are heavily Latin based. There’s way too many characters and I don’t even know who is who, and which family is which. I couldn’t tell what POV I was listening too. It was just too much to get me to care.

DNFd at about 10% into the audiobook.

I finished this book with a smith a feeling of satisfaction. I enjoyed this story and all of these characters – their quirks and differences are part of what made this story so enjoyable to me. You like Romeo & Juliette or the Hatfields and McCoys, you’ll like this book. Ryan and Evita not only find the love that was taken away from them, but they also grow during the week that their families share a holiday cottage. I loved seeing that growth and their romance blossom along the way. The ending was very fitting and I love what we got.

I listened to this book on audio and really enjoyed it. The narrator did a good job and was easy to understand.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Hatfields and the Machados have been enemies forever. Well, not forever, just since Evita & Ryan’s moms were in high school.
Nobody REALLY knows what happened back then, all they know for sure is it’s a feud neither woman is letting go of.
This has a lot of cute elements, the forced proximity in terms of families was interesting. The characters were cute and the drama was silly.
But the chemistry between the main characters wasn’t there for me. They felt friendly and they kept telling the reader how interested they were but I didn’t feel it at all. Their conversations kept being labeled as “deep” but I never felt that either.

Thank you to NetGalley, the Publisher and Ginny Baird for providing me with an ARC of this audiobook!

This was a super fun and creative modern Romeo and Juliet! I really enjoyed how Ryan and Aveeta teamed up to try and stop their families from feuding though!

I thought this book was cute! It was equal parts love story and family drama, but told in a lighthearted, fun fashion!
I adored Evita and her entire family, and I adored her relationship with Ryan, who was sweet and charming as he tried to get his uptight mom to relax and both he and Evita tried to get their parents to let go of the past!
Loved the fued, loved the "forbidden" love, loved the extensive cast of hilarious, fun characters!

Right Girl, Wrong Side was a fantastic Romeo and Juliet-type story that will make you laugh. You have the series family on one side and the boisterous family on the other. There was an accident and they both spent the week at a beach cabin in Nantucket. If you’re looking for a fun story to help time fly by, this book is for you. The narrator was FANTASTIC. I would recommend this audio book to anyone.

Thank you to Netgalley for the early arc.

This is an engaging story about forbidden lovers coming together and trying to bring their families along with them. I enjoyed the depths of the challenges they had to face. I loved the culture references and diversity of the book as well. This is a nice, quick, heartwarming read. I just reviewed Right Girl, Wrong Side by Ginny Baird. #RightGirlWrongSide #NetGalley

Overall I enjoyed this one but MAN WAS IT FRUSTRATING at times. Ryan's mom is THE WORST and Evita's mom is terrible too. These two have been in a fight since a high school class president election, seriously SINCE HIGH SCHOOL. Ryan's mom's dad tried to buy her the election, Evita's mom's dad bought pizza for everyone who came out to vote in retaliation. Two wrongs, neither right. Ryan and Evita obviously have chemistry and lucky (though stressful for them) they got paired up as chem partners in high school. They had to hide their friendship and both hated that. Now, 10 years later the mothers were in competition to win a week vacation in Nantucket and of course there is a mix up so both mothers think they won and both families show up at the Nantucket cottage ready for a week of relaxing. NOPE! What we get is a week full of stress because two grown women cannot put their petty crap behind them. Ryan and Evita do their best to try and make peace but Ryan's mom will NOT LET IT GO and that just feeds Evita's mom to keep her crap up too. It's so embarrassing the way they act toward each other and keep calling out Ryan and Evita for being friendly.
Beyond that I'm pretty sure that Ryan's HS girlfriends name changed part way through and I didn't understand how Ryan's mom is Mrs. Hatfield now but also was a Hatfield in HS. Did her husband take her name? Did they already have the same last name?
Anyway, thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this audio ARC. I enjoyed listening to this book a lot, it kept me paying attention for sure and the ending was really heartwarming.

Honestly, this is heinous. I looked up other reviews and I 100% agree, this reads like YA. The MCs are so immature. The discussion of marriage is so stupid. I guess one can only date for 6 months before needing to slap a ring on it? But the worst part is that the latina main character feels like such a ploy. There's a series on tiktok about white authors writing hispanic characters and this book fits that to a tee. Her heritage is so overdone in the first chapter. This reads like the movie "Encanto" was a major source. Also, I CANNOT with the island Nantucket being called The Beach. Do you know how much it costs to rent a house on Nantucket? I needed more explanation as to how this family, this hispanic family in massachusetts, who is not described as being fabulously wealthy, is casually going to Nantucket.
This book reads like the author had a pretty typical Hallmark style nantucket romance written and their editor said "well diverse books are selling really well, can you make your heroine laitna?". I hated it.

🌹Book Review🌹

4/5 stars 🌟

Two families. Two feuding moms. One beach house. Unexpected reacquaintances. All boils down to drama and a mission to bury the past while creating a future.

A family trip to the beach isn't always rosy when you have so many people in one space. Regardless, you go to relax and spend time together. Add in another family who doesn't get along with yours and all bets are off, especially when 2 people have some chemistry. Making this story a great "forbidden romance".

Evita and Ryan are the cutest together. They know what they've always wanted, but with family interference they never allowed themselves to seek it out. I love getting an inside view of each family's dynamics. They are so vastly different and most importantly seeing why they are the way they are.

This is a great summer/beach read. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments, family squabbles, and lots of banter, paired with the perfect love rekindling!

Also if you are an audio lover it is fantastic and so entertaining!!

Thank you @netgalley @dreamscape_media and @ginnybairdromance for the opportunity, and for sending me this ARC to review honestly.
