This was a very cute and light read. It would also make a perfect summer read.

Evita and Ryan use to crush on one another back in high school, but with their moms both hating one another and feuding since high school, them getting together was never an option.

Until one week, both families take a vacation at a beach house in Nantucket. Unfortunately, it happens to be at the same house. With both mothers trying to outbid one another at an auction for a week vacation, the people who were running the auction accidentally named both winners.

Throughout the week the moms continue to butt heads (with the husbands caught up in the middle of it), while the kids, especially Evita and Ryan try to help cool down the heated situation.

You get to see Evita and Ryan having special moments together as they try to bring their family together.

Also you get to see the dynamics of the differences between both families because of the cultures they are from.

I did want to mention how I thought it was funny that they referred to the game Twister as game from back in the parents time and how a lot of the kids didn't even know what it was.. lol.

Overall, a fun read!

Thank you, Net Galley, for an audio ARC of Right Girl, Wrong Side by Ginny Baird. This is just not for me. But I appreciate how this book could be for many others. There was just took much petty arguing for me. I finished it, but I thought about DNFing it.

đź’Thoughts:
There was so much petty fighting in this story. It caused me to almost DNF multiple times. It seemed like unnecessary conflicts were manufactured just to fill space. Plus, the main reason the two moms in the story didn’t like each other is just silly. I’d hope in real life grown women wouldn’t keep a feud going for decades over something like that.

I enjoyed Evita and Ryan. They were sweet and their budding romance was fun. I just wish their hadn’t been so much miscommunication between them and their family members. Neither of them was strong enough to stand up for themselves for most of the book! It was so frustrating.

I think this book really needed to be told in first person with dual POVs. The third person narration fell flat for me. Also the narrator’s voice seemed oddly disconnected at times. I wasn’t sure if it was intentional or not, but it repeatedly distracted me from the story.

I really wanted to like this story, but I think the petty fighting overshadowed the fun romance between Ryan and Evita. The cute moments just weren’t enough in my opinion.

Ginny Baird's Right Girl, Wrong Side (coming out 28 March 2023) is a fun take on the Hatfields and the McCoys. This one pepper (a bell pepper at that) book has feuding families, the tightly held, white Hatfields (in case we didn't get the connection) and the loud, Puerto Rican Machados, together in a Nantucket beach house they both won in an auction. While the moms' war continues, the Hatfield son and Machado daughter pick up almost where they left off in high school. I enjoyed the scenes of Nantucket and interactions between the families' siblings.

tropes:

family feud
second chance romance
forced proximity
Overall: 3 stars

My Review: Right Girl, Wrong Side by Ginny Baird was utterly sweet! I adored this delightful multicultural romance. It was so funny, while at the same time, it dealt with some pretty serious perceptions and familial issues.

This was SUCH a fun read! I love a good forbidden romance and this one has a great twist where rival families the Machado's and the Hatfields find themselves both winning a vacation timeshare on Nantucket island.

With a feud dating back to when their mothers were in high school, and no interest in mending fences, the two families have to figure out how to share this house without WWIII breaking out. The only thing the two older women can agree on? Neither wants their children, Evita and Ryan to be together romantically.

I really enjoyed watching Evita and Ryan work together to help their families get along, falling in love along the way. This book is full of family antics, laughs and feel good moments. Highly recommended and good on audio. It was my first book by Ginny Baird and definitely won't be my last!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for early digital copies in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an arc of this audiobook. Below is my honest review. I apologize if misspell any names or locations, I read this via the audio narration.

Shout out to Karla Serrato for a fantastic narration.

Evita Machado is going on vacation with her family … who are ready for her ex to arrive later and propose. That is definitely not happening. To top it off, when they arrive at the beach house they won in an auction, they aren’t alone. Who’s there? Ryan Hatfield … her high school crush. Their two families are the rivals of rivals. Ultimately, they decide to split the house in half. Literally in half. Masking tape is involved. Everything is going to be fine … right? Just fine.

Will the families survive intact? Will they ever get along? Will Evita’s crush on Ryan return? Will Ryan feel the same?

OMG this was so cute. This Hatfields and McCoys spin on a vacation rom com was ridiculously fun. The families were over the top, you want to root for the main characters, and the location is just beautiful. The reason between the feud … fabulous. I could not get over the small little fights between the families. *cough, beach umbrella, cough* I wish we had more flashbacks from high school though. The few we got were great but there were not nearly enough.

If you want a stress-free romcom that will make you smile & laugh, I highly recommend. I’ll definitely check out more of this authors books.
