Someone You Trust was so much more than what I expected. The description made it sound like a slow burn thriller, but it became so much more as we learn more about Amy's tragic past. I did like the present day storyline, but the flashbacks were really what grabbed me. I thought I had the mystery aspects figured out, but the author surprised me with a few of her twists. Would love to read more books from her.

The nanny in danger story is becoming almost as common as the dangerous nanny story, but there's room for all these books on the shelves. Ryan carefully develops her protagonist's back story so by the time the twist hits, it feels like everything has finally fallen into place. Great book!

It was an enjoyable read. It moved along pretty steadily, however I wasn't over the moon with it. It was pretty predictable to me personally, so it took away from the surprise factor I was looking for and like in a thriller.

I appreciated that the MC was able to form some bonds that helped her get through her situations. I don't think that all of her actions were agreeable, but it helped the story move along.

I will say that the ending was a shock, and that was about the only part of the book that I did not see coming so kudos for that!

This was such a thrilling and twisty read from a yet unknown to me author! A fast-paced domestic thriller with lots of lies, all sorts of deception, all sorts of horrible people, and, yes, with twists and turns that did not disappoint.

I feel like trigger warnings for this one should have been made more visible and stressed more: abuse, and drugs.

I was so excited to read this book because I really enjoyed Rachel Ryan’s debut novel. Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. I thought it started off strong and the way it was told in present and past timelines was intriguing, however, I quickly lost interest in the present timeline. While this book wasn’t my favorite, I will still read this author’s work again!

Amy thought that Sea View and working for the Carroll family would be a good new start for her but it brings old wounds and problems to the surface. Sure, the Carrolls have a lot of money and the littles are cute but then there's Liam, Mike's son by a former partner. The 17 year old has his secrets and his anger and slowly slowly problems with the parents emerge as well, This is told in two time lines of Amy's life so that the reader doesn't know everything that brought her to this place at once, It's a familiar device that works well in this novel. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Good storytelling makes this a good read- and no spoilers from me.

Someone You Trust by Rachel Ryan is another enjoyable story by Ryan.
This psychological thriller had me on the edge of my seat! I devoured this book in one sitting.
The pacing of this book is great. I thought the characters were well-developed, and the book was not boring in the least. It did keep me entertained the whole time and the ending surprised me.

I had a hard time getting into this book. Amy moves to Cork to nanny/housekeep for a family there. The author goes back and forth from now and Amy's past. The readers sees the trauma Amy suffered and brings with her to this new job. Liam (the older son) has lots of secrets that he keeps from the rest of his family. Things get weird and Amy decides she needs to move on. Before she can do that, someone from her past shows up and attacks her and the family she is watching. Some unexpected scenes but overall kind of slow.

This is another great domestic thriller that was very fast paced. I really enjoyed Rachel’s writing style and how she keeps you on your toes throughout the book.

I absolutely loved Rachel Ryan’s first book, the Woman Outside My Door. So I was over the moon to see she wrote a second book and I had to read it ASAP.

Amy is a nanny looking for a fresh start. She wants to leave her problems behind in Dublin and start over in a remote town in West Cork. She is hired as a nanny and housekeeper in this very beautiful coastal home caring for 2 young children. Things start off in an odd foot when she finds out there’s also a 17 yr old kid living in the house, but there’s been no mention of him. It gets weirder after someone has painted warnings around town to be careful. The husband has some erratic behavior that leaves Amy on edge. She thought this was her chance to start over, but have her troubles followed her?

I really enjoyed this book! It is fast paced and has very short chapters that really moved the story along. We also get flashbacks to Amy’s past that explains what she’s hiding from. Her sister and her husband were such a good support for Amy. I loved the remote location in Ireland and I had to laugh that everyone who met Amy knew immediately she was from Dublin because of her accent.

The summary sounded interesting, but it failed a bit in the execution. I'd expected a number of suspenseful twists, but what I found was a family drama. There were a few moments that would be considered creepy, but they were few and far between. The cover, title and tagline, and description were a bit misleading, or perhaps the book would be better labeled as something other than a thriller.

Amy accepts a live-in nanny position in a remote town in Ireland, desperate to escape her past in Dublin. Someone in the small town has been vandalizing buildings with spray paint, and the teenage son of the family she is nannying for is believed to be responsible.

This one really seemed like it was going to be a thriller where there were lots of creepy or sinister twists. However, it was more of a family drama revolving around Amy. I didn’t really get much suspense at all. Maybe a little in Amy’s before chapters, but it still felt more like drama than a thriller. I think the tagline on the front of the cover made it a little misleading - it made it seem more sinister.

I just finished this book so it's fresh in my mind. Read it in 2 sittings. I thought it was pretty good! 3.5 stars. I thought the terrorizing of the town thing was a little dumb to be perfectly honest but the reveal of who did it was great.

I thought Robbie coming after his mom with his drug dealer didn't make sense. If Robbie owed Keane money and that's why Keane came after Amy over and over, then why is Keane now all buddy-buddy with Robbie? I mean at this point Robbie is a full-on adult, so why's his mom still paying for his debts? Also, why is Robbie violently angry with Amy? Like I get his dad abused him and she didn't protect him well enough, but his actions towards her just seemed a bit much especially since she's been paying off his debts for however long.

I absolutely loved this book! I was rooting for Amy throughout. It was fast paced, and I love the way Amy’s backstory was told in alternating chapters. It kept the mystery going.

Amy went through soooooo much, some parts were violent but written in a way where I could picture what was happening. A really good book and the ending was hopeful and put a smile on my face for Amy.

Amy O’Neill had a plan. The plan was to move from Dublin to Sea View to get a fresh start. She already landed a job as a live-in housekeeper/nanny. It was an opportunity she could not pass up. Especially since her room was huge and came with an ensuite. And the pay was on par with what she was expecting.

Working as a live in housekeeper for the Carrolls (Mike and June,) had its challenges. But Amy’s biggest challenge was Liam — a recluse teen and Mike’s son from a previous relationship. Liam had a troubled past. And Amy knew what having a troubled past was like. Amy had kept her life a secret from the Carrolls. But little did Amy know that the Carrolls had secrets of their own…

Someone You Trust turned out to be a page turner for me. The story unfolds between two timelines — past and present, which really made for a suspenseful novel. I couldn’t wait to read what each chapter would reveal. And like and onion, each chapter presented layer upon layer of details that brought everything together into a cohesive unit.

There are just a handful of characters, so it was easy to distinguish one from another. The primary characters were fleshed out to get a feel for their personalities and respective agendas. I didn’t quite care for any of the characters. But with all the secrets and lies, it was understandably so. In the end, however, there’s a breath of relief as the truths are revealed, redeeming the character flaws in the primary players. Five stars.

I loved this book. It was so much deeper and darker than I first thought and I could not put it down. The characters were so well written, I'm sad that their stories are over. This was my first book by Rachel Ryan and I'm running to read her other now!

This is a fast paced domestic thriller focused on Amy, who takes a job as a live-in nanny and house cleaner for a couple in rural Ireland. It becomes clear that Amy has chosen this job and location because she is hiding from something, and that the town and couple are not what they seem; all of this comes out through alternating past and present chapters.

There is some creepiness in this book around the graffiti that keeps showing up in various places within the small town and Amy’s general sense of unease that her employers aren’t all they seem to be. Some of the past-tense chapters gave me a feeling of being doomed to an unescapable situation and I felt empathy for Amy. That being said, there were also some decisions Amy made that made me roll my eyes a bit; I appreciated her moxie but also thought things would have been easier on her if she had made some better choices. I thought the ending was satisfying and was definitely surprised by how it all turned out.

Overall, this was a good book and a quick read with some good twists. I would recommend for those who like domestic suspense and mysteries. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
