This was my favorite cookbook of the year so far along with 100 morning treats..combine the two and you will be a well rewarded eater.
I liked the rice based recipes and the simplicity of the salads…the California avocados pale by comparison. The illustrations and small
vignettes are perfect…

Awesome collection of Dominican recipes! This is a great book book for someone who would like an array of recipes, or for a Dominican, like myself, who is looking for some traditional recipes.

Highly recommend this book!

I was really looking forward to reading this but it was a let down. Some of the recipes are very basic that I thought it will be more.

Ok, that's it, I'm hungry!

There isn't one recipe in the cookbook that I wouldn't want to make, and I love, love, love that every recipe has a picture that looks so yummy!

Now, to be honest, there are a few that don't have pictures, but they're modifications to the main recipe, so I don't think they count.

Plus, each recipe includes easy to follow instructions, so if you're new to Dominican food - not that it's complex or anything - this will really expand your culinary skills.

This book is a beautiful insight into the delicious and beautiful dishes that come from the amazing Dominican Republic. The breakdown of each recipe is just right and as an avid home cook one thing I often find frustrating are complicated recipe steps.
The pictures which show the finished dishes and ingredients also have a natural feel to them. I feel as though I will be able to recreate this, unlike many other recipe books which feel like only Michelin star chefs can produce the final dishes.
If I had to criticise something it would be maybe swapping some of the recipes that had a picture (some I didn't feel needed it as they were very easy recipes, and maybe replace them with some of the others that were more intricate).

But I would defiantly recommend this for any cook who loves to try new dishes!

I love adventuring to new countries and cultures through food and the Dominican Kitchen will definitely transport you! I hadn't come across many of the ingredients and recipes in the book before, but the detailed descriptions would let any homecook tackle new challenges with confidence. I look forward to cooking several of the recipes, like shrimp and rice soup, empanadas and more!

I have a lot of cooking experience & I find these recipes to be well written & tasty. It's very meat heavy but there are some dishes that are vegetarian, like a few rice dishes. They may call for meat boullion but it could be substituted for vegetable. Quite a few plantain recipes which I love. This is a good addition to your multicultural cookbooks.

An authentic family recipe cookbook full of hearty Dominican dishes.
The recipes are easy to prepare. Some ingredients will be a little harder to source if you're not in America, but everything looks tasty and filling. I particularly like when cookbooks include a drinks section and I enjoyed deciding which one I'd like to try with my family.
I have never eaten Dominican, so I wasn't sure what to expect, I was drawn to the book because I love discoveries and trying new foods. The recipes were a little heavier than what I usually like for me, so I'm not sure I will be cooking any of it, except maybe one of the stew/soups, but they are perfect for feeding a growing family or trying something different without needing high culinary skills. This book shines through its genuineness.

A wonderful and fun cookbook and wonderful photos and recipes. I love a good cookbook and collect many. This one fills a spot that I don't have with new and tasty dishes I can't wait to try.

The information on ingredients and techniques are handing and the recipes themselves are easy to follow with most ingredients easy to access. I will be trying a few of these recipes soon as they are making me hungry.

A lovely cookbook, tasty recipes and a lot of fun reading it.

This is a great book with which to rev up your tastebuds and to enjoy the cooking of the Dominican Republican. Using simple ingredients and no complicated cooking methods, you can easily make some wonderful affordable meals using this book. It was also interesting to read about the traditions and culture - most people who go to the Dominican go to a beach resort and never leave the place to explore...what a pity.

Highly recommended as it is an utterly yummy book.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a free copy to review!

I love cookbooks like this. After all, one great way to learn about other cultures is by their cuisine. This is a vibrant, well presented cookbook about a cuisine I know very little about. There are plenty of pictures (nearly every recipe has an accompanying picture - bueno) and notes about substitutions. My only negative feedback is that many of these recipes call for ingredients that may be difficult to source and/or cost prohibitive.

Also, some of the recipes call for adobo and there was really no explanation that I saw over *which* type of adobo should be used. Luckily, I have a coworker who’s originally from the DR, so I’ll be asking them for their advice.

These detractors notwithstanding, I do think I will be purchasing a copy of this for my shelves as the recipes are bold, new to me, and also very dish forward with flavor profiles I had never even thought to combine.

And that’s precisely why it’s so important to publish cookbooks like this.

Did I request this book mostly just for the pictures? Yes. And it did not disappoint!

After reading several books lately written by Dominican authors, I was excited to drool over gorgeous pictures of the amazing dishes the authors discussed. The recipes are also mostly really accessible recipes that average people could cook.

I also loved that the author framed this as a labor of love -- preserving her family recipes and sharing them with others who might not be able to replicate the recipes of their elders who measure in pinches and eyefulls of items.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ -- Bright eye-catching cover on this cookbook!

I am always up for trying new cuisines and learning about the food traditions of other cultures. I don't think I have ever tried any recipes from the Dominican Republic, so I was excited to dive into this cookbook. This cookbook has a thorough introduction that includes such information as pantry staples, tool & equipment, and how to peel a plantain. It is then broken down into the following chapters...

snacks & sandwiches
salads & sides
soups & stews
main dishes
desserts
drinks

The book itself is full of photographs making it visually pleasing to flip through and use. The recipes themselves are well laid out and easy to follow. They also include a little bit of history about the recipe and most also include little notes. I have only gotten around to trying a few of the recipes here...pastelitos de pollo (mini chicken empanadas), pan con aguacate (avocado sandwich), chapea de gandules con coco (legume, rice, and coconut soup), pudín de pan (bread pudding). All were delicious and I can't wait to try every single recipe! I cannot recommend this cookbook high enough. 👍🏻👍🏻

Great cookbook. Easy to follow layout, good recipes, lots of pictures, and very easy on the eye. As someone who cooks Dominican food from time to time, the recipes were on point. They are very similar to what I do at home and what my mother in law has taught me.

OMG.
I am so glad I have this one in my possession now because, seriously, Dominican Republic food is so delicious. I flipped to the back of the book RIGHT AWAY to see what delicious desserts Vanessa Mota had put on paper, and thankfully I was blessed to see Arroz Con Leche right there. I seriously can't wait to expand my palette with more ethnically appropriate dishes. The Dominican Kitchen is out to the real world on May 2, 2023!
