Audiobook Review:
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5

I loved hearing Bones’ side of the story.

I listened to the dramatized version of One Foot in the Grave, which is this story told from Cat’s perspective, and I loved it. I was very excited to receive an audio ARC of this book from NetGalley.

I love Will Watt’s voice; he sounds just like I’d imagined Bones would sound. Book one in this series ended on a soft cliffhanger and I was anxious to hear Bones’ reaction to things that happened afterward. I was a little surprised at how torn up he was after being separated from Cat. Bones really loves Cat and isn’t afraid to tell her how much.

There are some really HOT scenes with Bones and Cat tearing up the sheets and I thought they sounded even better with him telling what happened.

I continue to be surprised by how much I’m loving this series. It truly isn’t the type of book that I’d normally pick up to read but I am HOOKED and will continue reading the rest of the books. If the author continues to write more books from Bones’ POV I’ll be reading or listening to them!

A review copy was provided by the publisher via NetGalley but this did not influence my opinion or rating of the book.

I had thought I had read all the books in this series and was right. This audio release is new, but all through listening, I felt that I knew the story, especially in the last half or so. Despite that, I enjoyed it immensely the second time around. The series is filled with great characters and has a very original premise. The idea of a "Dhampire," or living half human and vampire, is not new, but this series developed the idea into an involving storyline.

I particularly enjoyed the narrator's rendering of Bones with his non-posh British accent. It was exactly as I might expect Bones to sound. Thanks to NetGalley for an advance digital copy. The opinions are my own.

I enjoyed listening to Bones' view, especially since the author chose a narrator who could do justice to the accent that Bones is supposed to have, due to his background and upbringing. In addition, there's a scene with Justina that isn't in the canon featuring Cat. I received a review copy from NetGalley and have left my opinion.

I forgot how much I missed Cat and Bones and Jeaniene Frost is one of my favorite paranormal authors. Thanks for reminding me. Okay, now to the story. After 4 long years of pain and suffering on both end, Bone finally find his other half by a fluke. Nothing like Cat having a price on her head that make their reunion that much cemented. Bones give his last to make sure Cat is happy and safe and this novel showed the extend he goes to. This novel does not disappoint at all and made me want to reread and purchase the missing novels in this series.
I received this as an audiobook and enjoyed the narration that at times I forgot I wasn't watching a movie but listening to the book.

4.5 Stars 🌟

This is the second book that has Ms. Frost going back to the beginning of her fan favorite Night Huntress series and retelling the story from the POV of Bones. As a very huge fan of the series, you really cannot pass up the opportunity to read/listen to the story from his side. Even if it means it is basically a retelling of the story.

I think that people will either love it or hate it, all determined by how much you enjoyed the first telling -from Cat's POV. Personally, I loved it. It's been years since I read the first book and many things that I had forgotten were so much fun to re-live.

I listened to this on Audio as an ARC and I do have to mention that I was not a big fan of the narrator Will Watt. He wasn't awful, but there were little things that bothered me. Honestly, they were probably stupid things, but they did add up. One was the pronunciation of Menchares name. After hearing it pronounced one way for so many books, I cannot believe that no one caught that.

Anyway, like I said...that is all picky. I loved the book, loved seeing things from Bones' view and will DEFINITELY be reading every new Bones book that comes out.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read/listen and review this ARC. The opinions above are mine and mine alone.

Both Feet in the Grave picks up where book 9, The Other Half of the Grave ends. (Book 9 is also the first book that starts with us getting Bones‘ side of the story. His Point of view to match book 1, Halfway to the Grave which is followed by One Foot in the Grave, both in Cat’s Point of view.

As a huge fan of The Night Huntress series, and having read the originals more than once, I have to say that I’m loving reading and now listening to his side of how things went for him rather than just Cat’s version.

This time around I listened to the audio version rather than reading the book. (I’ve already pre-ordered the book to add to my collection on my bookshelf) ;)

One Foot in the Grave is Narrated by Will Watt and roughly 10 hrs to listen to the whole book.

You can absolutely start with The Other half of the Grave and then start this one, Both Feet in the Grave and get what’s going on, but I’d highly suggest you start with book one, Halfway to the Grave which is in Cats point of view and go in order if you want to receive the full experience of one of the best paranormal romance series I’ve ever read.

That being said, on to THIS book.

I really enjoyed Will Watt’s narration. To me, the narrator is the make it or break an audiobook for me.

I will literally stop listening and switch to the e-book immediately if a narrator doesn’t do the story right.

You can’t pick a narrator for the story of Cat and Bones with so many of their loyal followers and NOT have someone that is good and gets it right!
I wasn’t sure about, Will Watt, but he grew on me quickly after I started the audio at the beginning of book 9. I usually listen to a sample to make up my mind, but honestly… the samples don’t do many narrations justice because they’re too short or pick pets where we don’t get to hear the narrator sample more than one character.
I wasn’t sure, but the more I listened to him tell the story, the more I pictured everything in my mind play out as he read each character, flawlessly.

It’s not always easy for a narrator to read both male and female characters, but he was able to do so in a way that I didn’t stop listening and wait out the e-books release rather than continue to listen. Great job!

The book was as I expected if I’m honest.
Ms. Frost has a way with her writing that there was no way that I didn’t expect anything different from Bones thoughts from the other books where we got only Cat’s, but! I still wanted his POV! This didn’t disappoint.

I honestly can’t wait for the next book! This series is fantastic, and this book is no different than the others.

I noted that she mentioned, again, at the start of the book that she had to update the technology due to the time and year the older books were written and released.

I honestly didn’t even think of that until she mentioned it at the start of the book. Beepers to cell phones. LOL Makes sense, but I don’t think it would have metered to me. New readers, maybe…. I’m still amazed by how many people don’t know about this series.
I make sure to recommend it to any of my fellow PNR fans who ask for recommendations.
Never have I had anyone come back and say they didn’t love Cat and Bones!

Now, re-writing a book, the same book that’s been done already in another’s POV that was released so long ago… being able to get everything to line up exactly the same to match the timelines and get each scene just right? Doesn’t sound easy, but she does it and it was perfect!

I would love to read more. I’m really hoping the author has more planned for the future. One with certain characters, but taking place some years later and in current times with them all older. (I won’t give spoilers in my reviews, but if you’ve read these books prior, you know what I’m talking about.)

I feel like there is more story to tell and I guarantee that bringing back all of these characters in a new storyline… well, there is no doubt the fans of this current series would jump to read any new issues that have come up where everyone needs to get involved again for the sake of Cat and Bones as well as anyone they’ve felt the need to help. :)

You are a plot whisper! I know you can come up with a couple more to keep us fans waiting :D No pressure! Lol

In the mean time… I will be patiently awaiting the next book in Bone’s point of view! The NEXT book is one I’ve been waiting for from his POV.
Actually… the remainder of the series I’m dying to read in his POV!
This is another 5 star read for me. For the story AND the narration.

18+ read- mature readers only for this book.

Bones is a 200 year old vampire and he’s on the hunt. Not for someone to eat but for his lost lover. Welllll not lost just missing. All she left behind was a note saying she loved him but not to look for her cause she’s already gone. Bones is distraught and has been since the day she left.
So while he tries to hunt down Cat (his lover) he’s also meeting up with people who have put bounties on her head. Oh yeah did I mention Cat is half Vampire half human and she spent years hunting down vampires to kill them. Of course this was before Bones and she did it because of what happened to her mother. When Bones meets up with these people he puts them down and continues his search for Cat.

Thoughts:
I did enjoy the book - but not until the middle end. I found the first 30% to be rather meh. But when the reunion happens it gets a lot better.
Worth the read if you like vampire romances.

Both Feet in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost was 4.5 ⭐️. It was narrated by Will Watt and he was awesome. If you love vampire romance then you’ll want to listen to this. There was a whole host of interesting characters and lots of steamy romance. It is a stand-alone novel and I really enjoyed it. I’m definitely picking up the next book to see where they’re going next.

A note for the publisher and/or author. My review is VERY gif heavy and you're only getting a portion of it here. I've posted to Goodreads and have included that link. Once I'm able to post on other sites, I will. Most won't let you post until the book goes live. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read and review what I feel is gonna be the best urban fantasy romance book of 2023.

I finished listening to the audiobook for Both Feet in the Grave 10 days ago and during that 10 day period, I have DNF'd 3 books. Haven't been able to get into anything and it's been frustrating. Tonight, I realized why.
The struggle is real, yo!

Y'all, this book was sooooo good and I didn't know how badly I needed it in my life. Getting these books from Bones' POV really changes the way you see things, including Cat. I didn't think I could love Bones more. Then Jeaniene Frost wrote Both Feet in the Grave. Add in the INCREDIBLE narration by Will Watt and it was everything I needed this book to be and more.

This review is gonna be gif heavy, so buckle up. I mentioned the narration, right? It was perfection. I know we all have an image of Bones in our minds and chances are they're all very different. Before going into this audiobook, I saw Bones differently and it's an image I've had since Halfway to the Grave over a decade ago.

With narration, my image of Bones shifted to the incredibly talented and gorgeous Joseph Morgan. Fun thing is, he played a vampire hybrid that was fucking ruthless like Bones, is built just like Bones, Joseph is British and sounds a lot like the narrator, and he became Bones for me. You're welcome.

Both Feet in the Grave started with Bones in a not so great place mentally and emotionally. He lost the love of his life, was miserable, and felt completely alone. A lot like this...

Then he reunites with Cat and seeing the wedding from Bones' POV was hilarious. Some of the stuff regarding Ian was hilarious. Seriously, dude. Don't fuck with Bones or the Red Reaper.
I can't believe I made it this far into my review without mentioning what many of us urban fantasy romance lovers have talked about for over a decade.

In Both Feet in the Grave, it's chapter 39. It's. Even. Hotter.

In closing, I loved everything about Both Feet in the Grave and I want and need the rest of the series from Bones' POV. Please and thank you.

Ten days and I'm not over this book. Ten days.

Bones' POV for One Foot in the Grave
Audiobook version: Excellent narration

OMG! This was so good!
Same story, different viewpoint. You would think there wouldn't be much difference between Cat's POV and Bones' POV but there is. The two, while super close are not joined at the hip 24/7. In this book, we get to see what's going on in Bones' head and heart. Plus, what he was up to from the last time the two were together up until they meet at the wedding. This isn't the end of the story. It's barely the beginning.

We learn so much more about Bones, his power, and his feelings. If I wasn't already in love with him. I would be now.

As for the book itself. It is well-written, and fast-paced, with phenomenal world-building, and characters that will make you laugh, cry, and stay in your heart forever.

I love this book and absolutely adore this series. I can't get enough and highly recommend it.

Everything you could have hoped for and more! Jeaniene has struck gold on giving us Bone's POVs and needs to complete the whole series. It's sexy, wicked and answers all the questions we burned with in Cat's books.

I LOVE Cat and Bones and their vampire story. This was told from Bones’ POV, after missing Cat for so long. She is the “Red Reaper” - and wreaking havoc for the vamp community. Bones and Cat quickly reunite after she left him, thinking that was the only way she could protect him. Trouble ensues, and they try to get revenge! A great cast of supporting character. So fun to read.
Super sexy (obviously!) and I chuckled aloud several times.

Love the series so getting to hear it in Bones words just adds to the story..
The narration was awesome just close your eyes you can picture Bones .

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC

I have loved this series and yummed down all the books, and delved into each of the spin offs as well. I have done most of them in audio, and I will admit that the first book took me several tries to get into because some of the accents in the audio just did not work for me.

But this narrator is amazing! Having been through the entire series, I have a very well formed idea of what Bones is like in my head. I'm not saying my head canon is absolute truth, but I am saying that I have an idea of what I expect. This narrator absolutely nails it!! The tone, the flirtiness, the ice. just yes!

I tend to feel a bit skeptical of a re-release of a book flipped and told entirely from the other characters perspective. Usually the author has made a specific choice for a reason, and if both perspectives were needed the book would have been dual POV to start with. THAT SAID, I do just love this world and the stories and I am more than happy for an extra book to allow me to return to the world and see another perspective. Also I do love Bones so more time in his head is something that I want.

The one this I will say is that the series is very very straight. And as much as my willing suspension of disbelief will allow me to embrace Vampire Boyfriends, Ghouls, and Demons, I get stuck on how very limited everyone's sexual pallets are. In 200 years, you didn't think to try anything with someone who wasn't a cis het woman? like at all? ever? not once? I mean I know that straight people exist and need representation too, but it was interesting to reflect that this is where my line of disbelief is.

For a concept that seems to pretty clearly have started like as Buffy and Spike fan fiction, a complete and fully realized world with some really interesting characters, lore and world building had emerged. It has everything that I expect in a Vampire Boyfriend book.

Utter perfection. Everything I thought was "missing" from book 1 was given in spades here!

The audiobook narrator also did a FANTASTIC job. I didn't listen to the audiobook of book 1 but I'm glad I received this edition. Accent was exactly how I pictured Bones.

I am a big fan of the series. And I have reread it multiple times, and will continue to do so. And I never knew that I was missing Bones is point of view. I enjoyed the little updates to make the book seem more modern, and it was amazing to get to see their adventure through Bones eyes. I very much help the author will continue to rewrite the books in this fashion. And of course I have to give a shout out to my favorite character Ian. It would hurt his feelings if he wasn’t mentioned I did enjoy this narrator however the original one was better.

I am such a fan of anything Jeaniene Frost writes, and now I am a huge fan of Will Watt who narrates Both Feet in the Grave. As the author re-writes her Cat and Bones adventures from the POV of Bones, I fell in love with this series all over again. She also updated some of the technology elements of the story, so everything reads as modern-day.

Both Feet in the Grave is not a standalone and is part of a companion series to her Night Huntress series. You can listen to this book as a standalone, but I really don't recommend it. There are so many elements in this story that come from the first book and the entire Night Huntress series that you won't be able to fully appreciate Jeaniene Frost's brilliant storytelling if this is the first book you listen to. Seriously, go read/listen to all of the other books and you will adore this one as much as I do.

Will Watt does such a good job bringing the characters and story to life. He will pull you into the story and keep you there in such a delightful way. I enjoyed listening to him so much that now I have to go find everything else he has narrated. My poor wallet...

Revisiting the world of Cat and Bones via Bones' viewpoint has been a great delight. I don't usually enjoy these types of retellings, as they don't seem to add much to the story, but maybe it's been a while since I've read the original stories, or maybe it's just how much I adore Bones, but hearing Bones' side of the story has been a lot of fun.

Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced audio copy. in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgally and Nancy Yost Literary Agency for the Audiobook!

This book was so much fun! I have been a fan of the series for years and I am absolutely in love with reading it all from Bones’s POV. It was amazing to see what he thought and felt in the four years him and Cat were apart. I also loved how Bones can hear anything and everything and it made every scene even more entertaining

But also, because it’s been a minute since I’ve read the original series, I completely forgot they get married in book 2 and I was here for it!

Overall, these book are so fun and so hot, I can read them all day

Jeaniene Frost is so underrated as a paranormal romance author let me just get that off my chest first and foremost. I have loved her since I discovered the Night Prince series years ago and then of course went back and read most of her Night Huntress series, the woman hasn't disappointed me once. She does not get enough credit for the talent she has for this genre. Give me more Jeaniene Frost, give me special editions, give me books that aren't mass market paperbacks, give me movies and TV shows based on her work...all that stuff!

I was beyond blessed to receive an audiobook ARC of Both Feet in the Grave and was honestly shocked I got approved. Both Feet in the Grave is the second book from Bones's POV in the Night Huntress series and have to say I adored it! Seeing how Bones dealt with the separation was really heart wrenching and tortuous and I couldn't get enough. You could really tell he was so lonely and distraught chasing after any little scrap of evidence of her. You didn't get to see all that when reading One Foot in the Grave (Cat's POV) and it just made me love Bones even more. (Not more than Vlad of course but just more than I had to begin with lol). The anguish he goes through and the absolute terror he feels that she will leave again once they reconcile just got my heart strings all tangled up!

I really love the idea of these books rewritten from Bones's POV because we get to see all of the side business that Cat never saw and we get more info of what happens...it's like the story is expanded and who doesn't want more Bones and Cat?!

I thought Will Watt did a really great job of narrating Bones. I know there was a bunch of talk about him not being as good as Tavia Gilbert's Bones but I really enjoyed the lower gravely voice that Will used and his voice made Bones sound sexier and more elegant and less silly than Tavia did. Will's voice was soothing and the way he was able to switch between American accents and English accents without getting tripped up at all was impressive. I listened to this on my usual 1.25x speed and thought it was a good pace, not a lot of long pauses or lulls at all. I would definitely listen to this series going forward if Will was to narrate them.

Overall really enjoyed Both Feet in the Grave and I'm hoping this series will continue in Bones's POV! Thank you so much to Dreamscape Media and Nancy Yost Literary Agency for providing me with and audiobook ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
