Safe to assume i've already ordered the book after reading this sample because I need to know what happens. Just in the first two chapters i'm already eager to learn more about this world and why it is the way that is. I've been seeing this book all over my social media and it's understandable why, the writing is captivating and draws you in. Very eager to read the rest

While this story seems like it would appeal to many readers, I am not sure I am one of them.

The sampler was intriguing and began with a very dark tone and intriguing story, but unfortunately, I did not enjoy the writing style. It is very much a personal preference, but it felt slightly too poetic for me. This may be a book I pick up in the future, but for now, it is not high on my list.

“She’d watch their blood absorb into the mosaic at their feet and call it art.”

The first half of this book captured me with a premise I hadn't yet read about, which made me initially really interested in this story. After the 50% mark it felt like only 10% of the book was story development as it was filled to the brim with sex scenes, which isn't what I came into this book expecting or wanting. I am not adverse to sexual content within books it doesn't bother me, but I was led into believing it was going to be void of that with the first 50%, for the rest of it to feel like a fantasy erotica novel.

However, McEwan's writing is raw and authentic, and she does an excellent job of conveying the sense of loss and pain that Dawysn experiences throughout the book. The character development is impressive, and readers will find themselves empathizing with Dawnysn's struggles.

Overall, "Ledge" is a powerful and moving novel that tackles difficult subject matter with grace and sensitivity. McEwan's writing is top-notch, and the characters are well-drawn and believable. This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys literary fiction that delves deep into the human psyche. Ending redeemed itself slightly and secured a 3/5 for me

Wow. 2 chapters wasn’t enough! I need to buy this book and find out more ASAP. I was hooked from the first paragraph.

What happens next?! While I have seen this book being shared by other creators before, I had never read it, but now after reading these first 2 chapters, I promptly went to Amazon and bought the first book. I don't know why I didn't think "Ledge" was meant a physical ledge, like on a cliff or mountain. I really liked the pacing of the first 2 books, and how there isn't an info dump, we find out bits and pieces organically while hearing Dawsyn's thoughts and her interactions with Hector. I also liked the relationship portrayed between them -- it was realistic. They're lonely. They're friends. They want comfort. It doesn't have to be anything more. I also really appreciated how the author allowed Hector to have and express his feelings of grief. No toxic masculinity here! Again, two chapters was NOT enough and I will be finishing this book within the next 24 hours. What a tease!

It was an enticing 2 chapters.
I definitely want more than two chapters though. Not enough to see much, but enough to show it has great potential!

Beautifully written first 2 chapters. I am a huge fan of Raven Kennedy and SJM and similar writers and even the first two chapters here have so much to offer. Great set up of the world and a twinge of romance, harsh determination of the FMC, and some paranormal/fantasy aspects! I was honestly hesitant at first because I loath the way “Dawsyn” is spelled, but this book seems like it definitely be worth it and then some! Can’t wait to read the whole thing!!

Thank you to NetGalley, Angry Robot and the author Stacey McEwan for the sampler of this novel. All opinions are my own.

The first two chapters of this book have me very intrigued. I had feelings reminiscent of those felt when reading The Hunger Games ages ago, which in my books is a positive. I will definitely be adding this book to my TBR. Excited to read on!

I am currently giving this a 4/5 star rating as a I am very interested to see how this story progresses and it certainly seems to have the potential to be a 5 star read for me.

Ledge pulled me in immediately. I have so many questions about Dawsyn and about how the Ledge community was first formed. I am glad that this book has already been released so that I can finish reading it soon.

INSTANT TBR!

I’ve seen this book a couple of times on Booktok and was hesitant to read but after reading the sampler, i’m so excited! The premise is a combination of The hunger games (because of the reaping) and The Maze Runner (being trapped and not knowing what’s beyond). The first two chapters didn’t give us whole lot of plot but it shows the reader what kind of person our main character is through her actions and the way she lives. Overall, I would definitely recommend going forward and reading the whole book!

I received a sampler of this, and although it was just 2 chapters, it draws you in and has you needing to read more. Why were they reduced to living on the Ledge? Why did the Glacians force this, and why do they take a tribute every year? This promises to be an enticing read that I look forward to picking up soon. Dawsyn seems like a strong character, and I'd like to see more of what drives her.

This definitely seems like a book that fantasy readers would enjoy.

A huge thank you to Netgalley and Angry Robot for giving me a chance to read an exclusive sample from Stacey McEwan's Ledge in exchange for an honest review.

I wanted to read this book before but after reading only two chapters I just HAVE to read more.
Ledge starts off with showing the hardships Dawsyn suffers all alone where the cold is always present and the looming threat of Selection Day looms over her head, as she's the only one left of her family to present when the time comes. You can already tell by only two chapters, where the story is about to go but that doesn't mean you don't want to know thatt happens next.
Ledge gives off some serious Hunger Games vibes and I personally get wait to get my hands on a copy to read the rest of the story.

Ledge being the first installment of the Glacial trilogy and Chasm only a few months away from pubication, makes for the perfect read if you want to dive into a dangerous world where survival is the driving force of ther characters and betrayal could be found if one is not careful enough.

These two chapters certainly have me intrigued. If I hadn't read the blurb, I don't think the sampler would've done this book justice. Great world building, and I'll be keeping an eye out for it come June!

Great sneak peek! Dawson is a strong female character, which are the kind I like to read about. Reminded me of Katniss Everdeen or even Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Looking forward to the book release so I can continue this story!

Before requesting this book, I knew nothing about Ledge or the plot. I had heard the name before, but couldn't quite place where. After reading this exclusive sampler, I just know that the type of universe Stacey McEwan is building - is the type that I can get lost in for hours. In just a short sampler, her writing is sublime and fresh. You can tell that she chooses her words very carefully to convey just the right meaning. I cannot wait to dive in and read more.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Stacey McEwan for allowing me to read this sampler of Ledge in exchange for an honest review.
