What better way to learn about space than from Scooby Doo’s very own Velma Dinkley?

This is presented in a way that is easy to understand with top notch illustrations. It’s educational while being entertaining.

Can’t wait to introduce my nieces and nephews to new Scooby style adventures.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for a honest review.

Investigating the Milky Way and Other Galaxies with Velma is such a fun and engaging intro to the science and study of space, with a beloved nerd who's been teaching us for generations! This book is packed full of information, and presented in a way that's easy to understand — full-color illustations, engaging text-style chats with other members of the Scooby gang, tidbits from Velma directly shared with readers — plus it offers other resources if you want to learn even more. I wish these kinds of books had been around when I was a kid. I always struggled with science, but Velma would have made it way more fun!

It’s full of information and even includes references and websites for more learning opportunities! We get a few conversations with the Scooby gang but mostly it’s Velma telling us about space. It’s cute and informative and the information is recently updated which is extra exciting!

Ailynn Collins did a fantastic job with this book. It is educational without being boring, and perfectly geared towards being a resource that is both fun and knowledgeable. The subject matter of space is always a draw for little boys and girls, and the way that Ailynn crafted the different chapters is perfect. This is such a win, and I can't wait for it to come out to buy it for my little girl.

I have ALWAYS loved Scooby Doo and love that they mystery gang is taking a look to the biggest mystery of all... the universe.

I am not a science person but I actually learned SO much from this book. I wish I had materials like this when I was in school.

This is fun and informational.

Plus, the illustrations are classic Scooby Doo! What's not to love?!

This was a fantastic read for a younger audience. As a huge fan of Scooby-Doo I was really looking forward to reading this and it exceeded my expectations.

There was so much to love about this that I don’t know where to begin! I think I’ll start by saying that I loved the section that described the explanations different countries came up with to explain the Milky Way before telescopes were developed to study it. It was interesting to learn about how different cultures worked it into stories to pass down from one generation to the next and how all across the world different tales were used to explain the creation of the same thing. I think it’s really important not to only give a Westernised history of space discoveries and this book did incredibly well to incorporate countries from all over the world in this section.

I also think that the language would be easy to follow for the target audience of those with a reading age of 8-9 but never became patronising. It felt like a really fun lesson, with no talking down to the audience. The book was also broken into sections on the different elements of discoveries and I think that will make it even easier to follow and help a younger audience digest the information better. It also helps people to look up certain facts they want to recount or pictures they want to revisit more easily as they know where to look.

The pictures were also fantastic in my opinion. There was a good mixture of cartoon images to demonstrate what the text was explaining, with real life imagery that matched up with the part of history being discussed. It was very visually pleasing and I imagine would be very engaging to a younger audience especially.

The book was incredibly educational from start to finish. I Ioved the inclusion of famous astronomers and what they discovered throughout history as this is very informative and helps the audience to build an understanding of the development of space discoveries. Also, the astronomers included were very diverse with names suggesting different ethnic backgrounds and female scientists being included. This is super important to show a young audience that anyone can be a scientist! I loved seeing that element in there!

There was also lots of terminology that was included and explained fully which will be very educational to a younger audience. I also thought the glossary was great with pronunciations and detailed descriptions of important terminology. Again, I think this will help the audience to develop a comprehensive understanding of what they have read, helping to build their vocabulary and also allowing them to revisit words they may want to repeat and explain to their peers/guardians, furthering their enthusiasm for the topic.

I think that overall, the author made science and astronomy sound really fun and interesting. I loved the conversations between members of Mystery Inc. throughout the book because it shows the audience that their favourite characters find learning about space really fun and cool so they will be encouraged to think so too! I also love that the concept of learning about space was likened to detective work because again, that makes it seem so much more interesting to a younger audience! I think it will do a fantastic job at engaging young people in science and astronomy and hopefully encourage them to continue learning, ideally starting with the other books in this series!

I picked this up purely because I’m a Scooby-Doo fan who loves science and wow am I glad I did! I think children (and adults clearly) everywhere are going to love this! I hope it finds its way into classrooms across the world and I absolutely love the idea of Velma inspiring a love of space in young people everywhere!

An amazing fun read with facts and factoids with colourful pages filled with our most favourite Scooby Doo gang characters!

I love the presentation and minimal view of the facts. Never will there be a boring moment once you start reading this book.

It’s fun and somehow the reading experience is magical! It’s so nostalgic meeting all my favourite cartoon characters!

Thank you, Capstone, for the advance reading copy.

I LOVED THIS. I’m a new aunt so I’m scoping out books to be in the lookout for my niece and of course the Scooby Gang called to my own childhood and love for the show. Going through, it’s clear the author is very knowledge on the subject. I learned a lot myself! The gang adds little commentary and throughout, and the information is organized neatly. The color palette is very reminiscent of the original Scooby show.

Overall, would 100% recommend!

A cute book that explores the galaxies using Scooby Doo’s Velma. This had tons of great facts plus appearances from other beloved Scooby Doo characters! I would’ve immediately been drawn to this as a kid as a big Scooby lover, so I think the same would be true of kids today!
