One of the best things about being a parent (or spending time with a child you know) is taking a moment to read a story together. This time is wonderful for closeness and sharing.

Here is a terrific collection of stories to read with a child who is around five years old. Enjoy the words and also the illustrations. With forty stories here, there are sure to be many that will be enjoyed, read and reread.

A few suggestions include Please Do Not Eat the Books, Rap-unzel, Pam and the Peas, Get Up, Little Bear, The Impatient Cookie and so many more. Each entry is short and many rhyme, making them perfect for reading aloud.

I definitely recommend this one. Adults and kids will enjoy it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.

I requested this book on NetGalley because I have a five year old granddaughter and I'm always looking for new books to read to her, and I can honestly say that both she and I loved this book! There were 40 short tales - some in story form and some poems - and included were some amazing illustrations that kept my granddaughter absolutely focused on the stories. The fact that they were so short also kept her focused because she didn't have time to get bored before another story was starting, which would grab her attention all over again. There were also some fun facts included with a few of the stories, which I enjoyed as much as she did.

All in all, I loved this book and can highly recommend it, both from an adult's perspective and a five year old's.

5/5 stars.

*** I would like to thank NetGalley, Frances Lincoln Children's Books, and Gabby Dawnay for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is a collection of forty short tales of five year olds. Some of tales or legends passed down from various sources, while some are new tales. Though the artwork is simple it’s very colorful and it draws the reader into the story. The stories are as varied as the children who read them!

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this wonderful children’s book!

Such a sweet collection of stories that any five-year-old would enjoy. There are some very nice lessons in these tales. For example, "My New Bike" teaches children that even if they're worried about learning how to ride a bike, they'll eventually learn how to ride and all they have to do is try. The illustrations in this book are also gorgeous and feature diverse characters. Overall a super sweet treasury for children.

NetGalley has turned me into a fan of Gabby Dawnay now. This is an absolutely delightful book. Beautiful illustrations, an array of stories written in verse and prose. This is just brilliant.
