This book shows illustrations of children and how they may perceive their fears. Fears can be anything, and everyone feels fear at some point. The book also goes on to talk about facing your fears on days you feel brave. Fear is an important emotion that comes and goes. It is important to feel fear because the feeling serves as a signal to be wary of dangerous things. I love how this gives a visual to better understand fear. It can help young children understand and process their own emotions.

The Fears You Fear is a colorful journey through some of the fears that children (and adults) are afraid of. Using rhyme and catchy writing, we learn that it's normal to have all different kind of fears, and yours are probably different from someone else's. It's okay to be scared, and sometimes that fear is useful to keep us safe. But sometimes we can learn to face our fears and realize they're not as scary as we first thought. Wonderful book for kids to teach them that fear is normal and we should acknowledge it. Most of all, it's OKAY to feel these feelings!

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!

Very cute children’s book teaching children that everyone is different and everyone has different fears and that is ok.

A perfect reminder that everyone has felt fear before and that it comes in all shapes and sizes. The book helps children acknowledge that all people experience fear, but not everyone has the same fear, or experiences it in the same way. A vast array of worries are highlighted in the book, which lessens the stigma associated with them. It also encourages children to support the fears of others instead of turning them into an opportunity for ridicule. This book provides an excellent opportunity for the validation of feelings. The illustrations are animated and fun, bringing the text to life. A wonderful book that all children should read!

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH. IT MADE ME SO HAPPY. Not because I love fear and tackling fears (I don't), but I LOOOOOVE the way this helps kids understand that fear can be anywhere and that something you fear may not be someone else's fear and vice versa. I think it's important for kids to wrap their brains around that. Everyone has different fears and that's OKAY.

And I love the guided section in the back. That's what I absolutely LOOOOOVE about Magination. They do such an incredible job of not only publishing great books that focus on SEL, but they also do a really great job of fostering conversation and emphasizing the importance of growth.

This book will be welcomed by adults and the young kids in their lives. It offers a way to open up discussion about fears in an age appropriate way.

The author shows children that fears are universal and yet different for different children. Acknowledging them and finding ways to cope will serve young people well.

This nicely illustrated title will help children to talk about their worries. This is pretty certain to be helpful.

In addition, there is a section for adults at the end of the book. It offers a good explanation of kids’ fears and how to help them in coping.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the American Psychological Association/Magination Press for this title. All opinions are my own.

Thanks NetGalley for the preview!

This book was great! I loved the vivid colors in the illustrations. The hand drawn quality added a special touch. It was nice how they covered multiple types of fears and different ways to conquer them. A good tool for emotional regulation.

The Fears You Fear normalizes the feeling of fear for young readers. The gentle and supportive rhyming text and colourful, childlike illustrations explain that fear is a normal emotion that can sometimes get the better of us. The book offers multiple examples of possible fears and a few strategies to deal with them. Detailed back matter, written by a psychologist, offer ideas and support for readers who may be struggling with their fears. The rhythm in the text did cause me to stumble from time to time when reading. But the importance of the overall message outweighs this issue. This would be a terrific text for parents or teachers to share with students who are experiencing fears. It would be a good addition to school libraries and mental health care professionals offices.

Another great book for Imagination Press. This book even has rhyme and cadence. This book is about all sorts of fears, and how one can conquer them or discover that a fear isn’t really a fear but excitement in disguise. This story is simple, and the illustrations do a great job of visualizing the concepts.

We all have fear (or fears) that could scare us. Some are real, and some are imaginary. Whether they are big or small, this feeling can be managed if we learn how to tackle them!

"The Fears you Fear" simply teaches young readers to help identify and manage their fears.
I love how this stressful feeling is explained in the most 'non-fearing ' and in simple language to help children understand and acknowledge their fearful experiences. I also love how the illustrator has included rich racially diversed characters in the form of bright -crayon creation.
There's an author's note on helping children identify the sense of fear included in this book . The Fears You Fear is an excellent tool to be added to our children's library and a wonderful rhyming book that would be cherished by both young and adult readers.

As a 3rd grade teacher, I am always on the lookout for new SEL books that I can introduce to my students. The Fears You Fear by Rachel Rooney is a lovely book about recognizing and balancing your fears. My students loved the cute rhyme of the text and the illustrations to go along with it. They decided that the author's message was that it's okay to have fears, because we all do. Just don't let your fears get in the way of living your best life.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andersen Press for the opportunity to read a copy of The Fears You Fear.

A great introduction book to fears. I enjoyed that the book normalized fears and showed that everyone has them. I really liked that the book shared that fear can be excitement in disguise and that what you might fear may also be more afraid of you. The Reader’s Note is great for furthering education.

Thank you, Netgalley and American Psychological Association, for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This picture book introduces children to how they can understand and process their fears. The illustrations are bright and colorful, and the book portrays a variety of different experiences related to fear, such as feeling afraid of a new experience or feeling afraid of an illustration in a book. I also liked the author's point that we might think we feel fearful when we really just feel excited.

This book normalizes a wide variety of experiences and empowers kids with helpful ways to think about fear. The author's note includes additional advice for parents, and this book can be helpful in family, classroom, and counseling contexts. I liked this better than "The Worrying Worries" by the same author, because this ending is more open-ended and doesn't assume that kids can easily shrug off what they're worried about. This one is more appropriate for kids with mental health issues where fear is a bigger, more ongoing struggle.

I absolutely love this one. The rhyming is great and very satisfying to read, and I love that it deals with kids' (and adults') fears in a way that doesn't diminish them or make them out to be something silly. It very correctly shows them as something not only valid but helpful at times, too. The illustrations are great as well!

veryone has met a fear. It's a feeling we all know.

There are healthy fears and there are fears that cause terrible anxiety. This little book address all kinds of fears. How they help us and how we can overcome the fears that paralyze us.

A reader's note addresses what is fear and how we control our body to overcome those fears. A book for both parent and child to work thru. We should never let our children face these fears alone.

A special thank you to Magination Press and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

I really enjoyed this colorful picture book all about fears. It doesn’t solely focus on confronting fears. Instead, the book normalizes fears and talks about how they can be good sometimes for safety. My favorite part of the book is when it mentions that fear can be excitement in disguise. This can be true in some cases and is important to discuss with kids too.

A great children's book about fear with adorable illustrations! The rhymes were a bit better in this one than in the worry book! Again, an impressively informative and useful reader's note in the backmatter that will be great for caregivers to use as a tool to teach their children.
