Good book! I would consider this a self help book. The author does share about his life and it goes with the points he's trying to get across. Appreciated the audiobook because it was the authors voice!

James Elliott’s book is a beacon of hope and practical wisdom for anyone seeking to navigate life’s challenges with grace and strength. Drawing from his extensive background as an accredited psychotherapist, resilience coach, and ex-paratrooper, Elliott presents a comprehensive guide to developing mental resilience that transcends mere survival.

The Five Pillars of Mental Resilience

Elliott introduces us to the Five Pillars of Mental Resilience, each serving as a cornerstone for personal growth and empowerment:

Confidence: The foundation upon which resilience is built. Elliott delves into techniques for cultivating unwavering self-belief, even in the face of adversity.

Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and managing our emotional responses is crucial. Elliott provides practical tools to harness emotions, transforming them into allies rather than obstacles.

Physical Health: A resilient mind resides in a healthy body. Elliott emphasizes the importance of physical well-being, offering strategies to optimize vitality.

Goals: Setting meaningful goals and pursuing them relentlessly is essential. Elliott guides readers through effective goal-setting practices.

Relationships: Our connections with others profoundly impact our resilience. Elliott explores building supportive networks and nurturing meaningful bonds.

The MIND Method: A Game Changer

At the heart of this book lies the groundbreaking MIND method. Elliott’s approach combines mindfulness, intentionality, nourishment, and determination. Through practical exercises and relatable anecdotes, he demonstrates how to apply the MIND method to daily life, transforming mere survival into thriving.

James Elliott’s “Think Yourself Resilient” is more than a self-help book; it’s a roadmap to transformation.

Excellent biography style motivational self help guide. If James Elliott can do it then so can you and this comes across live and clear, some really great scenarios and explanations, not necessarily medical speak but real life language. I am going to read chapters of this book again, thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.

I requested Think Yourself Resilient because the title caught my interest. James Elliott kept me interested in his story, insights and advice well after I was done listening to the audiobook.
In Think Yourself Resilient, Elliott tells us the story of how he became resilient and how he overcame both his very difficult childhood and youth and his wrong concept of resilience. His experiences and what he has made of them make this book unique.
This is not a how-to book, exactly, but it's very inspiring and uplifting which may help readers overcome difficult times in life and build resilience through them rather than being crushed.

James Elliott's personality and unique story will appeal, especially, to young and not-so-young men in need of some encouragement and inspiration.

My thanks to the author, James Elliott, for sharing his story with us, and to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

1. This reads more like a memoir than a book on resilience and that’s definitely not what I expected when I picked this up.
2. This book offers nothing new on resilience but if your goal is to learn about this author’s life then this might be the book for you.

I don't know that I would have labelled this book as self-help, it is more of a memoir with some tips and tricks peppered throughout the story. With that said, I did love learning about James Elliott's life. James did not have an easy childhood but he has managed to overcome those obstacles, join the SAS, break world records, and go to school to become a psychotherapist.

It's often nice to hear audiobooks narrated by the author. This book is a nice new perspective on grit and perseverance. Highly recommend it.

‘Think yourself resilient “ had some good information!! I did find more about the author’s own journey, but I would’ve loved to walk away with more examples. Still an interesting book and I liked the narrator/author. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for an an advanced copy.

There is a lot to enjoy about James’ book. The honesty with which he shares his experiences, the insights he’s gained and the warm frankness with which he communicates with his audience.

I’m not someone who is personally drawn to stories or perspectives from individuals in the armed forces, however I did find all he shared incredibly valuable for someone removed from that world. And I must stress it’s not at all strictly limited to those experiences, he’s lived many years as a civilian and I thoroughly enjoyed what he shared about that part of his life.

It certainly also touched me deeply to hear from someone from a very working class background. I don’t know that people always appreciate the tool that can take on one in childhood and how it affects you in adulthood.

Bravo James and thank you for sharing your experiences. I wish him all the best with this book and know it will help many who pick it up.

A fantastic book. I listened to the audiobook version which is read by the Author. What an amazing life journey he has led and still lives shared here. What I loved is none of it is sugar coated. He shares the real lows, the scary times, the times he failed along with highs and success. His admirable record in teaching resilience to various police forces, the NHS and even political parties is incredible. Resilience is needed everywhere from our own life to those in positions of great responsibility.

Whilst many years were spent in the armed forces this is not a book about war stories or disasters. James makes that really clear. Inspired to learn about sports psychology and seeing how the way athletes learn resilience especially in the mind can be effective for anyone when applied. There is no psychological babble here, it’s easy language and stories anyone can relate to, no matter where you are in life.

I found this really inspiring and can definitely take away messages from this to apply to my own life. A lot of “self-help” books leave you wondering why you bothered but this is a cut above. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to improve their life even in a small way. There is something in here for everyone. 5 stars!

I have recently listened to the audiobook Think Yourself Resilient by James Elliott. James actually narrated the book himself and I wasn't bought in at the start, however, as I listened to James talk about his upbringing and life, I found him very relatable.

I have read "self-help" books in the past and they are usually hit or miss, however, this Think Yourself Resilient book was more than I expected and I have started putting some of these things into action.

I liked the book, I found it to be relatable, it wasn't written in an over complex way, it was easy to digest and overall has helped me. The book will give you key pillars to understanding mental resilience and an understanding of the MIND method. Very insightful.

This isn't just a book you can just read or listen to, you need to reflect, understand, process and then apply to your own life.

Thanks for helping change my mindset.

I really enjoyed this book, which is written and narrated by James Elliot. James tells us about his life story, and what it was like to grow up with abuse, and then break free from it to create a powerful and inspiring life for himself.

He then gives us tips and techniques on how we too can improve our life. He shows us how we can cope more easily with stress and fear, how we can deal with obstacles in our life, how we can build confidence, how we can improve our health and emotional responses, as well as how we can reach our goals and build healthy relationships.

I found this book really interesting, useful and inspiring. Highly recommended!

Many thanks to the author/narrator, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Okay. Okay. This one was pretty good. Nothing surprisingly new but helpful all the same. This book was a good mix of personal story and helpful advice. In this book, the author works through the Five pillars of Mental resilience. This book was a good pick-me-up. Thanks to Netgalley and the audiobook publisher for allowing me to listen and review this book.

Definitely had some good insights. I did find this more about the author’s personal journey. I understand this was to provide examples but I would’ve loved to walk away with clear actionable items. Still an interesting listen that provoked some interesting thoughts. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

I’m going through a bit of a self discovery drive in my reading and so this book claiming to help me think myself resilient appealed immediately.

Part memoir part motivational speech Elliott provides his practical advice based upon personal experiences and those he’s helped build up their mental resilience. I found the addition of his personal experiences to be incredibly effective in providing context and authenticity to his writing.

I don’t feel there is anything revolutionary in his concepts but it is delivered without pretence in a simple down to earth manner. I listened to the audiobook which Elliott in his friendly and approachable northern accent added to the accessibility of his words.

There are some real points of reflection I experienced whilst listening and the exercises were simple, not elaborate and easily applicable in a busy life style. There’s a few I have adopted since listening.

Finally I feel (although as a woman would not like to assume) but the fact that Elliott as a former military man discussing this topic can only help reduce the stigma and make it more acceptable for men to discuss their mental struggles.

✨AUDIO RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

✨REVIEW: Thank you to @threadbooks and @netgalley for my advanced eCopy! This was my first self-help style book and boy did it open my eyes!! James Elliot had a great way of putting things through his personal experiences and even relating to the medical/science side behind your brain and body responses. He explains his guide to mental resilience within 5 pillars and each chapter focuses on one. I really enjoyed that the author was the narrator of the audiobook and it helped explain the story quite a bit. However, if you don’t have a lot of time dedicated (ie only want to listen 15-30 min/day) I recommend either taking notes or doing the physical book. The only reason I knocked my rating down one star was because the chapters were long and no true “breaking points” making it hard to just pickup for a few while traveling to point B. On the other hand, I really enjoyed listening to his perspective versus reading because I could close my eyes and think through my own experience. This book made me truly think about my frame of mind and how I personally will make changes.

✨PROS: GREAT information and really helped shift my mindset

🚨WARNING: Potential triggers include looking at your current state, behaviors, and relationships.
