Unfortunatley the advanced listening copy for this one would not work, which is why I cannot comment on the book itself and why this review won't be posted on social media. I wish to read Engines of Chaos and write a review of it, but at the moment I cannot tell when this will be.

Engine of Chaos picks up right where Engines of Empire left off. The Ministry has dethroned the Guilds. Sanctan Egelrath has gathered the forces of the Draconate Ministry and is systematically wiping out all traces of magic. Rosomon is still reeling from her losses and is thrust into a position of power she never wanted. Connell is in a dangerous new land, navigating how to survive, and Tyreta is still getting used to her new powers and figuring out how to get back to her mother.

I’d say the first half is a lot of set up and getting our main characters into positions where the story can progress. It wasn’t until about two thirds of the way, that the story really took off for me. By the end, I was once again sucked into the politics and family drama and very excited to see what happens next. I’m sure all the setup will pay off in the final book.

The cast of audiobook narrators were fantastic! I’d definitely recommend reading this series on audio. They really did bring the characters to life.

If you enjoy political fantasy, if you enjoy religion pitted against magic, and if you like gritty fantasy, I’d recommend picking up this series!

*Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit books for the audio review copy. All opinions are my own.

I had issues listening to this book. Sometimes I have to actually read the book to understand what is going on, especially if its a certain genre. Thank you for allowing me to try it though!

I'm not going to lie. I struggled with Engines of Empire. It felt a bit like Ford was trying to put too much into the book and I wished we would slow down a bit to spend more time with the characters. So I'm delighted to say that Engines of Chaos felt like a huge step up. The first half was much more character focused and I was so much more invested in the Hawkspurs and especially Ansell. Despite taking more time to focus on characters the plot kept going and kept me intrigued. The back half of the book felt more plot heavy, but I was so much more invested now that I liked the characters. The the reveals at the end - I'm super curious about what's going on with the magic and how R.S. Ford will wrap this up!

I mostly listened to the audiobook, and really liked our narrators and they told the story well!

Thanks to Orbit and Netgalley for an advance eARC and an audioARC in exchange for an honest review.

Engines of Chaos by R. S. Ford was spectacular! This epic fantasy adventure was filled with high stakes well-developed characters, and exquisite plot points. I didn't know if it was book 2 when I requested it so I read book 1 first and now I absolutely love this series. Looking forward to book 3.

I received a review copy of this book from the author/publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Thank you to Hachette Audio and NetGalley for this eARC. My opinions are my own.

I'm not even going to lie -- I had no idea this was the second book in a series when I requested it on NetGalley. This book sounded really interesting, like it was right up my alley - the stuff I like to read. Before I started this audiobook I thankfully found out there was a first book. Of course, I had to read book 1 (Engines of Empire) before even thinking of starting this book. But oh em gee, Engines of Empire is so freaking long. I thought I'd never finish and never get to Engines of Chaos! And Engines of Chaos is a very long book as well.

In Engines of Chaos (if you haven't read Engines of Empire, go read it NOW), we continue following Tyreta, Rosomon, Conall, and some new characters as they fight to stay alive in the beginnings of the war between the Guilds and the Draconate Ministry. We see how far Sanctan Egelrath is willing to go to wrest complete control of Torwyn, and see Rosomon Hawkspur doing all she can to fight against him. The alliances, betrayals, death, and gory descriptions had me on the edge of my seat.

If you thought book 1 was gory, just wait until you get hold of this book. I actually screamed during one particularly gory scene. The descriptions are something else. I can picture it. I don't even need Benioff and Co to make a big money production to "bring this book to life." I can almost FEEL things happening. The scenes with the eye! Beautifully done. Gross but great writing.

Engines of Empire (book 1) had this incredibly annoying quality of Character Is About To Die But Doesn't. The first few times gave me a good adrenaline rush but towards the end of the book, I was *expecting* The Save. Too predictable. Engines of Chaos carries on that annoying quality to a lesser extent, but does bring another annoying quality to the forefront: the Things Are Looking Great But Then Bad Thing Happens And We Even Got Hints That Bad Thing Was Going To Happen, and it's also predictable. This can also be known as This Person Is Too Trusting And It Came Back To Bite Them In The Ass And We Got Hints About It.

The audiobook narrators are absolutely marvelous! What’s the equivalent of stunning but for audio? The emotions they inject into the narration really help bring the whole book and especially the characters to life. I enjoy books with multiple points of view, and really liked that each character got their own chapter. And their own narrator! Except for that one chapter that had multiple points of view within it, but even that was beautifully done, and the way Ford moved from one character to the next was very smooth.

I appreciate that this is a series and there's a long game being played here, but I did feel that we got a lot of plot story (is that what it's called) on the Hawkspur kids but nothing in the way of hints (or maybe I didn't pick up on them) with how each of their stories are ultimately related -- because I know they are, damn it. They have to be! Some of the journeys felt too drawn out, and the book was a tid bit heavy on the world building.

I can't wait to see how everything is wrapped up in the next book.

I definitely recommend the series (Age of Uprising) and ESPECIALLY recommend the audiobooks. They are so greatly done, it's a disservice not to listen to them.

Thank you but the audiobook wouldn't work. I can't really comment on the book and this review won't be included on social media or other websites as that would be unfair.

I give this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️'s

An Ingenious landscape!

You still have the 7 POV 's (Conall's & Fulren being my favorites) the other characters didn’t hold up as good as they did, in the first book in my opinion.
The guilds and the ministry still have bad blood for each other .Tyreta enjoying her newfound power.

Betrayal and suspense,we still have a fascinating world with lavished history , all characters are on the brink of danger. Who comes out alive? I’ll let you decide when you read it.

Still looking forward for the third book when it comes out.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the complimentary audio arc but unfortunately I was not able to download it, I keep getting an error message saying the download failed.

It doesn't feel right leaving such a poor rating when the only reason such a rating was given is because there is a technical error. I, like a few others were unable to listen to the audiobook version. It is such disappointing, because I was really looking forward to listening this book. I will not post on my social media sites due to the fact I didn't actually get to review. The rating of 2/5 was given because of the premise of the book had a lot of potential. I hope that the technical problems are resolved soon, so that people can have access to the book.

I was unable to download this audiobook onto my netgalley app to listen to. I was really looking forward to listening to it as I enjoyed the first book

I feel bad. I’m not sure who did this but I didn’t notice anything on this book that says it’s only a preview.

I had to buy Paradise 1 as that also was only a small portion of the book. It’s disappointing as it means I can’t afford the treeware for that book now.

Sadly I couldn’t even get the preview to work for this book. I bought The Engines of Empire just so I could listen and review this second book, I’m out of credits so I can’t get the audiobook & it’s not available at my library,

I enjoyed the first book & am sharing the link to that review here. I can’t do what some others have done and give a 1 or zero star rating based on the first book. I really enjoyed it. It’s totally my jam. At some point I hope to get the book and come back and update my review. Sorry.

I loved the audiobook for Engines of Empire, and was not only ecstatic to be back with these narrators, but was thrilled to hear the new perspectives as well. The story is already gripping, high stakes, unpredictable--all the things you could ask for in an epic fantasy--but the narrators take it to the next level. I wish they could read all of my fantasy books to me.

Phenomenal. Can't wait for book three.

Absolutely cracking second book in the Age of Uprising series. I couldn’t wait to continue my journey with these amazing characters and I was not disappointed. This is pure epic fantasy with a heroic bent, masterfully devoid of the filler so many later series books seemed to be stuffed with. My only problem now is the long wait for the next one.

Fast paced, action packed, featuring interesting characters. Loved the world building.
The group of narrators made the story comes alive.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

I ended up reading this with my physical copy. Loved the book but the audiobook provided to Netgalley didn't work. Would have liked to have it to listen to along with the book to know pronunciations. Oh well I'm looking forward to Engines of War.

Author R.S. Ford has written an interesting tale of adventure in this second installment of The Age of Uprising series. The main characters had me invested in their lives and play off each other well. The plot is straightforward enough, with enough twists to keep you listening. Narration was from multiple actors who made the story more enjoyable This was a 4-star read for me.

My thanks to Orbit via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I've finished reading the second installation in The Age of Uprising series by R. S. Ford, Engines of Chaos. I've listened to it as an audiobook, courtesy of Netgalley and the Publisher. The physical book is on its way to me and it's going straight to one of my favorites shelf.

In this part we have even more points of view that add depth to the story. The narrators are again doing an amazing job and I recommend the audio version of the series to everyone who likes such medium.
The plot is thickening, it's fast paced and the scope and stakes are even higher than in the previous books. It also brings the idea of a crazy cat lady to a whole new level. 😎😅

I can't recommend it enough, I'm very glad I've decided to dive into these books and honestly, it's a mandatory read for fans of John Gwynne and Joe Abercrombie. This series is resembling of Age of Madness by the latter author, but it also has some other factors that make it unique in my opinion.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!

I was not able to download this book, sadly, due to technological issues.

However, I will still give some feedback. This book intrigued me, the cover and genres specifically.

I enjoy fantasy and from what I read of the description, it sounds like a very fun read.

I sadly have to give this a 1 star because I'm not going to fight the app to allow me to listen to this book.

The Hawkspurs are having a rough go of it. In R. S. Ford's "Engines of Chaos" we pick up in the fallout of the battle at the Anvil. The Ministry has seized the capital, overthrown the Guilds, and is pushing their religion on everyone. We follow most of the same POVs as they seek allies, survive the plots of demons, grapple with unexplained powers, and see corruption they have enabled.

Thank you Orbit and Netgalley for the copy!

Reasons to read:
-Character growth for people who bad poor choices in the first book
-They really don't have a plan for what to do after they take away artifice... Let's see how that pays off
-The conflict is way bigger with more players than I expected
-War crimes
-Some comeuppance
-It isn't precious with it's characters

Cons:
-Animal deaths
