I read the rewritten version of the original when I was just a preteen and it stuck with me, it was my favorite wattpad story that I always found myself drawn to.
I never would’ve thought Kat would actually publish a cleaned up version of it! I’m so proud of her!

It was a quick and easy read and I think the author has grown considerably since her wattpad days. The description of the gorier and scarier scenes are the holy grail of this book, in my opinion. The connections between people are also more elaborate, and you can understand relationships better.
Some aspects still need tuning in her growth as an author, such as showing instead of telling and perfecting realistic teen dialogue.

I’m looking forward to the next one!!

This was my first book of a Death character and I loved it.. this was the Wattpad days. When I found it was getting published I signed up for the ARC so fast and also pre ordered the hardcover! 🩵

Faith as an 8 year old had an encounter with Death, in exchange for her life back she made a deal with Death, at 18 he will come back to her and claim her soul. Things start to get a little crazy after her 18th birthday. I love their banter 🩵 & all the twists!

He calls her cupcake 🧁 😍

My favorite quote because I related too much:

“You mortal women and your strange fetishes for mysterious, psychopathic men. It’s sick, really.”

Where is the lie? Almost all of the books I read are filled with these men. 😂

That was the week I realized I had a type. 😬

If you read her first Wattpad book of this series , know it completely changed & it’s better.

I honestly might read the ones currently on there again because I miss him already. 💀

I can’t wait for the rest of the series! 🩵

I was soooo excited to receive a copy of this book to review because I first read this on Wattpad years ago when I was around 14 years old. I am now 25 and seeing the growth with Katarina’s writing is so amazing to see.

After years of reading the different versions of this book, I was expecting it to be basically the same as what I’ve read before, but it’s actually different in such a great way! I loveee the changes made especially to Faith and her maturity. The way Death is described as well is so intriguing and made me want even more after I finished the book.

Death is my BFF is a trip down to memory lane for readers who have read this book on Wattpad and a new, exciting genre for new readers.

It starts with a young girl Faith who makes a deal with Death in return for her soul with a twist.

I would recommend this book full of plot twists, mystery, humor, darkness.
You will read through this book and immediately want to read the next books.

Death will be your boyfriend at the end.

Without the amazing mind of Katarina E. Tonks, we wouldn't have Death or laugh our asses off or stalk her for new chapters.
The books of Katarina E. Tonks are one of a kind to read. You won't regret it one bit.

Are you evil and looking for some dark revenge and a lot of bad? Well, then this book is good for you! Kat's writing had a tremendous change and I mean tremendous. You wouldn't even know it was her. Heck, every line I read I had to remind myself it was written by a human and not some goddess. I'm sorry if you are looking for spoilers I ain't that nice ( death grin ). You read it when you will read it and after you will read it I think you might love it and warning there is a freaking cliffhanger she put at the ending might think she is secretly satan. She freaking changed her writing is amazing and her ideas are creative dying here writing this because I just want to read more of her writing!! Plot twist plot twist pot twist plot twist. She's so unpredictable. The way she writes and how she writes the characters and the lines, and the descriptions all add up and add up and add up and turn into something genius. I have NEVER in my life read a book like hers. And no I ain't just saying that. Read it. See it. Love it. Jesus is the word for this. Don't tell death I said that

I first got to experience this book a few years back while it was on Wattpad, to say I was obsessed would have been an understatement. When it was announced that it was going to be published I was super flipping excited and after reading the ARC I remain just as excited.

The dynamic between Faith and Death is complicated and full of tension and sass, I love it. I would say they had a love hate relationship but I really don't think that they are there quite yet. But, either way I love them. I will say that there are parts that are a little cringy and wattpad-y, but please take with a grain of salt because if you read this book without knowing that it was a wattpad story first you probably wouldn't even notice.

There are several twists that happen that I truly did not see coming and the cliffhanger at the end has me absolutely dying for the next book.

Overall, I highly recommend this book and I CANNOT wait to see everything else that Katarina has in store for us.

Thank you to Katarina E. Tonks and NetGalley for this ARC. I was so beyond ecstatic to get to read this book.

Malevolent. Beautiful. Cursed. Death. He found sympathy in his investing heart for little Faith, but his intentions have changed. She's now 18, her soul is his to keep. However, will he fall for her snarky personality and sweet scent?

I've been waiting what feels like forever to finally read the finished version of this masterpiece. I can confirm that it didn't disappoint. The journey had been crazy. From the first book released when Kat was only 16 to the smooth, creative, mature version we read now. Character development, her signature cliffhangers, plot twists, and the morally gray characters. Everything you could ask for and more. I would definitely recommend this fantastic story to anyone who appreciates a suspenseful plot and new fantasy world.

I've read the original series on Wattpad, but the rewritten version is more refined and I'm in love with the cover!

This book was better than I thought it would be. Normally, I don't read this genre, but my friend recommended it, and I'm actually kinda glad I read it. It has a spooky, Vampire Diaries meets Supernatural kind of feel, and flows along pretty well. The main character, Faith, is relatable and gets thrown into the deep end of drama and danger pretty quickly. Death, David Star, and other creepy creatures are on every corner, wreaking havoc on the beginning of Faith's 18th year. The end was action packed, and I'm intrigued to know what will come next.

There is some kissing and romance, but no sexual scenes. There is a fair amount of cussing, but the fight scenes and such are about what you'd expect in your favorite TV monster drama. Reading this felt like watching a movie in my head, which was actually really fun. I also got a kick out of the casual banter between Faith and her friend - it was funny, and seemed like an actual conversation you'd hear in real life, rather than the usual bookish way that characters talk.

I haven't read a grim reaper romance book before this and the way it was written was a love story bound to happen between human and reaper. It was a good read from the beginning, that I enjoyed. After reading I am left wanting more and can't wait to read whatever comes next with Gime reaper and Faith. I loved every moment between them.

Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for sending me this work.
I really enjoyed this, I'm also not surprised this book was on Wattpad before. It was the cliche romance story and I absolutely ate it up. It felt like it was dragging in the beginning but after around 100 pages it got perfect. This is not a short book but it is effortless to read and also a very fast read with how easy it is. I recommend this but only if you want something you would probably find on Wattpad.

Dnf pretty early on. I was so excited to see this book was getting published I read it years ago on Wattpad and loved it. I thought that with it being years in the making that it would be even better. Sadly this book was too juvenile for me. It read just like it did on Wattpad years ago but I've grown as a reader and want something where characters have more depth and aren't just the Wattpad cliches we grew up reading. This book could have been so much better with some rewriting. This book would be great for someone who is younger and isn't bothered by stereotypes and troupes glore.

Is Death good or bad ? If Death were a person would that dictate their actions ? This story that apparently began life on Wattpad (sadly I missed it) looks at just what Death can and cannot really do as this book begins with Death making a choice to "temporarily' give a young girls soul a reprieve for ten years.
Faith died ten years ago but doesn't remember so when a stranger turns up and trust me he's creepy strange she is totally flummoxed and definitely having nothing to do with him ! Alrighty then (yep Ace Ventura fan here ) what does Faith do about weird guy Death and then the millionaire and his son who bizarrely offer her a job ? Life never used to be this complicated but life after death just might be !
I didn't have a clue how this would play out and just enjoyed the ride. It's a lot more detailed and complex as things unfold with surprises, shocks and revelations along the way about various characters. Faith is not your average heroine and Death is a conundrum for readers to hate and yet strangely enjoy. As this ends its hard to see how Death will ever see the truth about Faith but as he saved a child from walking through Purgatory alone I do have high hopes for him so will definitely want to know what happens next.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Katarina E. Tonks' eerie story "Death is My BFF" is thrilling. The narrative follows Faith Williams' brush with Death. With the intriguing David Star, the characters have electrifying chemistry. Tonks effectively creates suspense and anxiety. Paranormal elements and a gripping narrative make this book a page-turner.

Katarina E. Tonks' "Death is My BFF" is fascinating and surprising. Dark fantasy and romance aficionados should read this novel for its intriguing characters, supernatural fights, and secrets and predictions. Tonks writes well and creates a vibrant environment. This captivating story examines life, death, love, and treachery.

***A big thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.***

Thrilling sexy romance that I did not expect! The plot is completely original and the characters are relatable (which once again you wouldn't expect with a story about Death!!)

Okay, let's talk about Death is My BFF.
In five words: captivating, exciting, tense, funny, slow-burn-type-of-steamy

I totally cheated with the last one.

[This is going to be long. But to sum up: it's a phenomenal book which is certainly a MUST READ. Even if it is just to witness the steamy, slow burn enemies to lovers/ enemies to frenemies, sarcastic and hilarious story of an innocent girl who is more than she seems and an angel that is more of an animalistic, sadistic menace.]

This book is something that almost anyone can enjoy. I have read the very first edition of this book, about 8 years ago, and then the rewritten version (on Wattpad) and then the first draft of the journey towards it being published, and finally THIS MASTERPIECE. If you are an old reader, this book is completely new. The changes are amazing and all for the better. It is almost unrecognisable. There were no plot holes, that I could identify. The writing style is so polished and well done, and the storyline... Oh my word. Amazing.

Death and Faith embark on this journey where they cannot deny the attraction, yet they resist it at every turn. Not only does Death torment Faith - in a cat playing with his food (or cupcake) ;) kind of way - but he also protects her. He is certainly a bad boy/ villain/ anti-hero, but man oh man is he sexy and he knows it, too(so does Faith!).

Faith cannot help but be drawn to him, as much as she wants to hate him, as much as she senses all the warning signs of danger going off, they cannot stay away from each other. If Faith chooses to give herself over to Death/ to pay her debt, so to speak, I think she would be choosing the lesser of all the evils (everything about how hot and funny Death is, plays a huge role in the ranking). If I were Faith, I would 100% succumb to being a strawberry frosted Cupcake (iykyk). It's a good thing I'm not Faith, because the story would be over quickly!

This is one of those books where the morally grey character does not suddenly become a Saint and lose every fibre of his true being because of some sort of insta love trope. Nope. This hero retains his morally questionable character, yet convinces all of us to revel in the darkness with him.

There is a lot of duplicity and sexual tension. You want to cry, you want to scream, you certainly will laugh because both our MC's are witty and sarcastic. Simply hilarious, with chemistry that is off the charts. You will be enthralled, indeed.

I really don't want to give anything away, but I will say you can look forward to a lot of teasing and a steamy first kiss. This book is the epitome of a slow burn enemy to lovers (kind of? They are more like enemies to frenemies). For the OG Wattpad readers, you can look forward to a far more mature, and well-rounded Death.

I promise this is worth the read. Katarina Tonks is an author I can see making is BIG. She is so talented, and has the most incredible imagination.

While, I did have the privilege of receiving a DRC, if this was a bad book I would not say it was worth the read. This is a MUST READ for anyone that enjoys funny, sarcastic, dark romance, slow burn type books. If you are overly religious, you might find it offensive (though I didn't but I am not SUPER religious).

But all in all, Death is My BFF is a book series you definitely want to get into.

Thank you @netgalley for sending me an ARC of Death is my BFF in exchange for an honest review!
I loved this book! The plot is very intricate, it keeps you glued to the pages!
I'm also very fond of the worldbuilding, The fantasy tropes merge perfectly with the modern world in a very natural way! The characters are also very fleshed out and realistic.
Faith is a very nice MC. She tries her hardest to do what's right and to not burdern others, fighting regardless of the situation. She has a great support system that loves her, including her parents, her aunt and her best friend.
Her relationship with Death is very complicated, but also quite sweet. They are on opposite sides of a supernatural fight (for a while), but they still are drawn to each other.
I really enjoyed the lore of this book, especially when it comes to the demigods and the demons. I'm very curious to see how it will be expanded in the next book!
Ace is probably my favourite character. He's very mysterious, but he does seem to have a good heart. His sort of friendship with Death is something that I hope will be explored in future books!
I definitely reccomend it for fans of Fantasy books and Enemis to Lovers!

TW:death, violence, mentions of sexual assault, slavery, betrayal.

I would lime to say that this has been one of the best experiences I had during the reading of this book. I fell in love with this story back in middle school in 2012 when it was still on Wattpad, and now reading the fully fleshed out version is nothing other than nostalgic and euphoric. Big thanks to Kat, her publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me the chance to receive a DRC and leave an honest review.

The story follows the newly turned eighteen year old girl, Faith Williams, as she navigates her introduction into the world of the supernatural. The Grim Reaper, Death, made a deal with her when she died as a child and now he’s come to collect.

This book will definitely keep you on your toes and have you squealing with fluff one second and then have your heart racing the next. I even found myself talking out loud to myself in order to process every fine tuned detail of the story as it progressed. The world-building is immersive, pulling you in with its allure like the characters that live within it. Faith with her headstrong, compassionate, and sassy personality mixed with Death’s sinister and broodingly calculated playfulness creates a dynamic that is not something you want to miss out on.

I had high expectations for this book and was not disappointed. Katarina Tonks knocked it out of the park for me. My only concern is now I’ll have to wait for the next book to come out to get my next bookish fix.

I have never read a book faster in my life...when I tell you the visuals the descriptions. *Chefs kiss*. If you are a fan of the original or even the rewritten version on Wattpad, you are going to LOVE this version. If you're like me and can see it play out in you're head as you're reading, let me tell you, it's like watching a TV show or a movie. And now that it's over, where's the next book!! Y'all this is a must read. I don't want to give anything away. This was everything you thought you wanted but more. It was a Kaio-ken times 1000. you thought Death was fine before?? Ha! This version....get ready to fan yourself. Highly recommend, share it with your friends, your family, your dog. Kat is truly an amazing genius author.

The writing in this book was a lot better than I had been expecting and I think the plot and characters were very well done! My only issue is that there were a lot of little logistical issues.. for example I'm not sure an eight year old child would realistically fit in those toddler seats of a shopping cart. Otherwise it was a really fun and bingeable read!

Thank you so much for my ARC!
