I am excited to to be given the opportunity to read this book earlier then its release date, because i destroyed this book in less then 6 hours, and it was an amazing journey.
For those who were readers on wattpad, you will see that the first half of the book is a big, and fast paced plot ridden story. Understandably, I have read this book on wattpad many times before, so I was familiar with the plot, but I imagine that someone new to this series, will be sucked in right from the start. I loved how all of the characters seemed to be more grounded to the plot, now everyone has a purpose and no one is left out.
And my favorite part, the second half. I like slower pased books, and the second half of the book hit me just right. Faith's and Death's relationship feels so much more thought out and intimate. David was also great addition, since to me he seemed to be cut maybe little to early in the original (i also love Glenn). But now everything feels fantastic. Honorable mention to the first kiss: actually screamed my guts out when it happened, it was written amazingly in this book.
Kat, you made a masterpiece in my opinion, and I seriously cannot wait for the second book, and I guess to pass the time I am rereading this one from the start.
IF SOMEONE HAS NOT YET PRE-ORDERED THIS BOOK DO IT NOW OR DEATH WILL BE VERY SAD.

ALSO SKITTLES IS ADORABLE

I was fortunate enough to be accepted for an ARC and be able to review it with my honest opinion.

Wow, Kat has really done it! It feels so surreal that, after so many years of enjoying Faith and Death's story on Wattpad, we get to finally meet their final, more mature, version.
This story is filled with all the twists and turns we all expect from Kat *wink* *wink* and we got the opportunity to revisit some iconic scenes and characters that make this story the popular YA fantasy book we all love.

I feel that I got to grow up with these characters, as I was simply an 11 year old first dabbling on Wattpad when I came across this story that got me hooked for the next coming years until today. Being now practically 24 and still cherishing this story has got to count for something, am I right?

I can't wait to discover what Kat has in store for the next chapters of Faith and Death's (aka FADE) complicated but *hot* relationship.

PS: Shout-out to Glen for being #1 on Death's shit list.

The day I can finally hold the physical copy of this book, my life will be complete 😍.

Death is My BFF will be released on September 5th. In the meantime, you can pre-order it.

I have no idea where to begin. I will start by applauding miss Katarina Tonks. This book has been a long time coming for her and I’m so proud to see it make it to print!👏🏻🖤
-
Secondly, I’d like thank the author and her team for gifting me this DRC on NetGalley! What an easy and positive experience! I am honored to give this book my honest review. Let get into it!!😁
-
I went into this read as a previous reader from Wattpad. I read the original DIMBFF and DIMBFF rewritten. To say that this official manuscript was a breath of fresh air is an understatement. It is obvious the maturity at which the author rewrote the manuscript. She redrafted an already amazing story into a more structured read. I won’t lie and say I wasn’t sad to see old scenes left out, but it was clear that it was done in benefit to the writing of the story. I now understand the lengths at which an author in this genre must go to reach the target audience’s expectations of a first time published book in a series. All in all, I believe everything that should have played out in this first book, were played out perfectly, and it ended on such a great little cliffhanger to lead onto the next!!
-
Now with that, I will begin to fangirl over this book that, honestly, brought back to life my love of reading in the first place. I was so excited to be dropped back into the world that is FADE and re-experience the playful banter between the two. Faith’s inner dialogue never ceases to make me chuckle out loud, and Death’s grumpy remarks had me slapping my hand over my mouth as I read it on the airplane. All of the descriptive scenes of fights with demons and whatever else Hell threw at Faith, had my palms literally sweating in anticipation. (SPOILER COMING) And that KISSING SCENE??? Gosh I was so giddy I couldn’t contain my smile, or the heat sliding from my cheeks and down👀🥵
-
Overall, easily a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 read. I flew through this book and I cannot wait to have the physical copy in my grasp. Thank you again to the author for this opportunity, and I can’t wait to see the rest of this amazing series in print🧁🖤

*A huge thank you to Kat and Netgalley for allowing me to receive this copy for my review!*

Are you sick of "enemies to lovers" where it ends up being less enemies to lovers and more nuisance to lovers? Well then this is the book for you! A true representation of enemies to lovers with complex and deep protagonists, stunning character growth, and twists and turns at every chapter. As someone who read all 3 books on Wattpad I went into the published version with high expectations. Exceptions that were met and knocked out of the park. Small changes were made to add maturity and layering to the original plotline, while keeping the integrity of the book. Faith Williams is my favorite book heroine. She showcases that female leads can be brave and also kind, hilarious and deep, empathetic but also stand up for herself.
Death is also not your typical protagonist. He is brutal and harsh. He is not the type of character that you can immediately see redeeming qualities in. Which I like. Diving into his backstory unleashes a whole new perspective to him, giving you puzzle pieces of his life and story.
These two together create a hilarious and intense combination.
Between the multiple storylines, additional characters, mystery and cliffhangers, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat.
I can't recommend this book enough to anyone and everyone! This wasn't my usual genre but the synopsis drew me in, and I'm so glad I gave it a chance. 10/10 my favorite book.

3, 25 ⭐

I read this book when it first got published for Wattpad and I was OBSESSED.

It didn't actually disappoint this time, but I was not really into some parts of the story. Sometimes I felt like I was in the dark, but too much to actually enjoy the book.

Faith is a great character, I felt like her reactions were mostly realistic and Death was just as I remembered: amazing. I loved how they actually had a relationship (weird and based on a promise when Faith was 8yo).

I can't wait to read more of the series and from this author, because I really think she can only improve!

First of all, the cover is *chef's kiss*. Second of all, this book is candy, and I ate it up as such.
I never was a Wattpad person, but I love seeing how many stories that started on Wattpad are getting published.
The writing wasn't my favorite, but as someone who loves a villain love interest (specifically one who is Death), I'm willing to overlook a lot. The banter is good, the characters are likable, and even though I guessed the big twist, I found this a very enjoyable read. I would classify it as NA, not YA.

Once I started reading it could not put it down, read the sample on Wattpad and instantly knew I had to buy it and I can't wait for the second book to see what happens next. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves a good romance story about the god of death.

Absolutely loved this. It's a whole vibe. I connected with the characters and loved the story. It was steady paced and hard to put down at times!

DIMBFF is definitely not your run-of-the-mill tale of the Angel of Death falling for the relatable, clumsy & yet courageous (when push comes to shove) FMC Faith Williams.
Death spares the life of Faith after a fatal shooting at a young age, and promises to collect her soul when she turns 18. Fast forward a couple of years, and when the Reaper comes to collect her soul, well let's just say he has a greater chance of replacing Angel Gabriel without objection, than he does at getting his hands on her soul.
I have been a fan of the original Wattpad series for years, and yet the vivid depiction of Faith's attempts to evade Death, their chemistry and banter in this book, had me entranced from start to finish!

The Cupcakes & Reapers are in for a real treat!

When I first started reading the original Death Is My BFF series on Wattpad, I was in middle school. And ~ 10 years later here we are! (I literally only keep Wattpad downloaded on my phone because of Kat.) As a long time reader and loyal cupcake, I am so proud of you, Kat, and how much your writing skills have improved. Reading this arc has brought up all the feels like I was reading this story for the first time many many years ago.

I actually just started re-reading the rewritten version on Wattpad days before I realized I had access to the arc, so it was nice to see what was similar and what has changed from that story to the new one. Kat did such a fantastic job and I can tell how hard she worked on it over these past few years. She really gets the readers captivated by the plot and the characters as everything unfolds.

If you've read the previous versions and think it's going to be the same -- don't! This new version of Death Is My BFF is refreshing, filled with a lot more humor and wit, spookier, and there are lots of changes in the development of the characters. Compared to the older versions of Death Is My BFF, this arc is more cohesive and gives us a better understanding of the characters and their purpose.

What I was most excited for and found so interesting was being able to read Death's POV because we never really got that in the previous versions. And boy oh boy, did I love them! I ate it up like it was a freshly baked cupcake with pink frosting and sprinkles on top. We were able to see a side of Death that we never got to see before and get inside his mind, especially when his past is revealed. This arc has truly made me fall in love with Death and his relationship with Faith more than ever.

I was honestly dreading on finishing this arc because I just didn't want it to end! I'm so excited for your book to officially come out in September and for everyone to read! Cupcakes, go ahead and pre-order your copy and buckle up, because you're in for a ride.

This book is absolutely fantastic, one of the best I've ever read!
The transformation of the characters and the progression of the storyline that I've witnessed throughout the years has been truly awe-inspiring.
The storytelling has been honed to perfection. Different from the OG.

I feel like a proud mom watching a book I was reading when it was originally being posted on Wattpad finally being published.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!

This review will be extremely short just because I don’t want to put spoilers in it right now and I will update on release day with more thoughts. But I was happy with the changes. I missed one thing from the OG but I’m soooo happy this is being released for more people to read. Can’t wait for the next one

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of Death is my BFF.

Death is my BFF by Katarina Tonks, was such a good read! I thought the cover was really cute, and when I read the blurb, it sounded right up my alley.

The story follows Faith who is our main character. You find that she’s unique…and she ends up with some unique friends as well.

Right from the start of the book, we’re thrown into action. The plot is easy to follow, and I never felt lost. The characters are well developed. Overall, it was an excellent book. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

Holy Cupcakes! This is the best book I’ve ever read! I found this book for the first time on Wattpad in 2014 and have followed the series since. I absolutely love the way Kat writes, and this storyline is fantastic! I love Faith, her quirks and mannerisms, but I absolutely love Death! (Dream husband much!) His dark persona, the stories from his upbringing, and his cat-like mannerisms. I can’t get enough! The chemistry between him and Faith is breathtaking! This is only the first book, and is kinda slow, but since I know there is (hopefully) more, I was prepared for the cliffhanger ending. But I promise you, it’s worth reading! I can’t wait until the rest of the series is published! Thank you so much for the opportunity to read and review this book! Love you Kat!

The pure nostalgia of reading this again.. I almost got teary eyed when I received an ARC.
Many years ago, after my first child was born, I decided to pick up reading again. I started reading stories on Wattpad. This was one of my first stories I read on there and I have followed this author since. Years later, she got herself a publishing deal and books are ready to be pre-ordered on Amazon! I’m ecstatic!

Faith nearly died during a grocery store shooting as a child. Not old enough to understand the consequences of giving up her soul to the grim reaper, she makes a deal for her life. To give her soul to Death himself when she’s 18.

Well, she’s now 18 and he’s come to collect. But she needs to willingly come with him. And.. who the heck wants to do that?? Faith is hilarious and witty and strong willed. Her soul is… different… and it’s bringing all sorts of demonic beasts to her.. they want to literally feast on her unique soul.

The world building is fantastic. We have demons, warlocks, angels and different realms. We’ve only touched the beginning of what’s going on in this world.
The story has been fine tuned to perfection and I just cannot wait for Faith and Death to be on my bookshelf.
Cliffhanger.
Minimal spice (for now) but the story will capture you till the last page!

This book started of so strong! I really liked the story idea. It just felt so long. There wasn´t much happening. The first half was really good and interesting . But the second half just didn´t get me hooked. I did however love Death and the stories about his childhood,

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review a DRC for 'Death is My BFF.'

Katarina E. Tonks’ debut novel ‘Death is My BFF’ is a refreshing and exciting addition to the supernatural and fantasy genre. Originally published on Wattpad-- it's easy to see why so many people have fallen in love with Tonks' writing. This new and improved version bears the same skeleton as the original-- sharp wit, clever world-building, and grounded characters with rich development. Tonks' debut spins its originality in a new way, offering a clear and more cohesive story.

The novel centers on the heroine, Faith Williams, and the deal made with the Grim Reaper to save her life. Years later, when she's eighteen, Faith is challenged with balancing school and an untimely promise. When the Grim Reaper-- Death-- comes to collect Faith's debt, she battles against herself and the world around her. What's happening to her, and what will happen if Faith agrees to uphold her end of the bargain? Thrust into a supernatural nightmare--Faith must navigate life as she knows it and another life she never knew existed.

As a fan of the original Wattpad series, I immediately recognized new dynamics, personality changes, and a more grounded feeling. ‘Death is My BFF’ feels improved, serious, and ready to tackle the literary space. Even though the novel deals with immortality, it's surprisingly human at its core. This humanity breathes through characters like Faith and Death and vivid backstories and relationships. Faith Williams is a strong and intelligent protagonist. Faith represents what it means to be human-- to feel and wonder about the lives around you. What does it mean to be vulnerable? What are you risking?

Katarina E. Tonks handles her morally grey villains with care, and if you're anything like me-- this fact alone is enticing. In the realm of books and movies alike-- I've found myself burned rooting for the so-called "bad guy." Instead of shying away from a character like Death, she embraces him. Tonks offers Death grace and compassion, and any villain enthusiast will fall in love with his development throughout the story.

'Death is My BFF' is a solid first entry in the Death Chronicles. Old and new readers will fall in love with the advanced humor and heart that weaves through every chapter. Make sure to pre-order 'Death is My BFF' or purchase it when it comes out on September 5th, 2023. You'll want to add it to your bookshelves as soon as possible!

All of the characters are unique and really show how well the story is plotted out.
I have followed this author since she was on Wattpad with the original series. From the original series to the rewritten then to the final manuscript you can tell how enthusiastically intent the author is for all that she writes. The character development is amazing and makes you feel like you’re right there with them on the page. I feel like a proud sister after devouring this book within a day since the story has been with me since wattpad.

Where do I even begin?
I’ve been reading Kat’s work since she started the first version of this series on Wattpad. All I can say is wow! The character growth and story development that I’ve witnessed over the years is nothing short of breathtaking. As an early DIMBFF reader, seeing into Death’s mind and further into his past was an experience I never imagined. I feel like I’ve known him for years, but I realized I had just breached the surface of everything that makes him who he is today.
If I could pack my things and live in Katarina’s head, I’d be moved in by tomorrow. This book is an action packed, creepy, hilarious journey filled with twists and turns that even an existing fan won’t be prepared for. Faith is so relatable and Death is the most yummy he’s ever been. You’ll cry, laugh, and sweat while diving into this incredible universe. Katarina, you’ve done it again. I’m so proud of you for all that you’ve accomplished in your first published book! I’ll always be your #1 fan.
If you’re looking for a great paranormal book with a quirky 18 year old who’s trying to find her place in the world, the ultimate slow burn, sexual tension that’s through the roof, and a 7ft tall, sexy, conceited, delicious, monster of a man with soul snatching one-liners, look no further. This experience is once in a lifetime. Prepare to be spellbound by the Grim Reaper himself. This book is in a league of its own. You’re in for one Hell of a ride.
