Beautifully written and illustrated story of how parents can teach their children scary stuff without being overly scary using Sasquatch to explain their intentions. Yes I would definitely recommend this for anyone responsible for children’s safety. The book should definitely be found in athe home library. Special thanks to the following for allowing me to review early. I have given my own honest opinion.

I enjoyed this book, as a mom of two kids ten years apart the world is always changing. I love the little lessons mixed in with the main one of the story. The pictures were inviting and the story I thought was entertaining and held attention well. I would say this would be a good book to have and read to your little ones.

Cute book with relevant topics! This would be great to read to early school aged kids to introduce some not-so-great events that can occur.

This was an age appropriate way to approach young children about a lockdown with fun and light hearted imagery.

I’d say it’s best for children up through 1st grade.

My two year old thoroughly enjoyed meeting Sammy on his visit to Crittertopia! I loved how informative it was. It will be an awesome printed book, the formatting for kindle was a little off. We sure hope the author decides to continue the world of Crittertopia!

The author, Claire Marie, of “Sammy The Sasquatch” did a great job of showing how to turn scary situations for children, like a lockdown, into a few simple steps and how it can keep you safe.

The pages in the front of the book are very informative on how to discuss safety and talk about difficult subjects with children. Even for me as a mom with an anxious 6 year old, this will be very helpful on how I need to talk with him.

I look forward to more books and situations in the Crittertopia World!

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy to review! Releasing April 18th

Claire Marie has done a wonderful job of creating a book and world that can cover traumatic events children face. In “Sammy The Sasquatch” Sammy shows us how she and her fellow students in Crittertopia have lockdowns to hide from humans that wander into their lands. She goes through each step talking about safety and how once they have followed each step and the adults have cleared the situation, they can go and play to enjoy the rest of their day. She even compares these steps to how her new friends (our little human readers) experience lockdowns in their own schools.

I think the information in the front is very beneficial for caretakers looking to ease in to discuss safety and concerns in an ever changing world. I may suggest moving those conversational topics to the end of the story for future books. Many of these questions are great easy ways to broach the topic without coming in strong. The connection to talk about lockdowns in the same breath as seatbelts is a good way to diffuse tension and keep the conversation going about other safety measures. Even in the book we meet Sammy’s friend Finn who mentions their bike helmet, reinforcing that safety measures are all around us.

It’s a great little book that is perfect for classrooms and at home to start a conversation without having the topic be overwhelming. I hope Claire brings more of these topics to our Crittertopia friends!
