The Wedding Day
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Author: Sue Watson

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Bookouture and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

Synopsis: The blushing bride. The handsome groom. A secret one of them will kill for…

It’s the day I’ve been dreaming about my whole life. As I glide down the flower-strewn aisle overlooking the Greek orange groves, in my pearl-encrusted ivory gown, I finally see my fiancé Nik. We look like the perfect couple, but not all fairy tales have happy endings…

I try to forget the urgent calls from my sister this morning, and how she doesn’t know I’m about to marry a man I have only known for a few months. His family seem a little off and he shuts down when I ask him about his past – but we’ve all got skeletons in the closet, right?

As I take in the guests, I don’t recognise a single person or see any of my friends or family. It doesn’t matter, though, what matters is Nik – the handsome man waiting at the altar who loves me so much.

Of course, he doesn’t know the true reason I moved to this beautiful island, or what happened to my ex-husband.

And when he finds out who I really am, it will be far too late…

My Thoughts: I do love Watson’s books. She has a way of storytelling and plot delivering twists that just keeps you at the edge of your seat. I have enjoyed many of her books. The story is a slow burn with character building until about 40% in. Even though is was slow, the unreliable narrator kept the story moving in an intriguing manner. There were some parts where the past was intertwined with the present and it was hard to identify the who/when. At a very minimum, there should be a paragraph break. Another con for me was some plot holes, however it was very slight.

The characters were well fleshed out with depth, mystery, intriguing, and creative. The author’s writing style was complex, multifaceted, suspenseful, twisty, and just brilliant. The way Watson crafts her story, she delivers the plot in twisty layers. When you think you have it figured out, boom another twist, very unpredictable, which I absolutely loved. The ending was an absolutely twisty nightmare, in the best possible way.

This was a gripping psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. It was definitely hard to put down at times. I am a Sue Watson fan and will always read what she writes. I highly recommend picking up this book!

Wow! Another terrific book by Sue Watson!
The setting is the beautiful island of Corfu, and the descriptions are so vivid!
Alice is a recently divorced woman, from England. Her ex husband was a brute, and a cheater, and when Alice sees him in a grocery store, with his pregnant girlfriend, Alice gets enraged, and lashes out. Accused of attacking her ex, Alice flees England and the police, and travels to a new life in Corfu.
In Corfu, she meets a new best friend, Sylvia, and a new man, Nik!
Everything changes for her, and she hopes for an idyllic life with Nik, a wealthy vineyard owner.
Her past legal troubles in England are put behind her as she looks forward to her new life, but… is everything exactly as it seems? Not when Sue Watson is the author!!
This was such an engaging book, with gorgeous descriptions, and amazing twists!
I’m giving it 5 stars!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC, and the opportunity to read and review this book, with my honest opinion!

🧐 my thoughts:
I honestly, didn’t really enjoy the beginning of the book, but I held on and about halfway through the book became more captivating to me.

👌🏻what i liked:
I really liked how captivating the middle to end of the book was. I wish the entire thing was like that, but I understand that we had to build to that point. The unexpected twist was phenomenal. I really enjoyed that!

🙃 what i didn’t like:
Alice’s character and the way she is portrayed. It takes until Corfu before she becomes appealing and likable.

🥰 special thanks
Thank you to NetGalley, Sue Watson, and Bookouture for granting me this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I love Sue Watson's books! I chomped at the bit waiting to get stuck in to this one!
This starts with a bang and I knew I was onto a good one.
The pace did slow a little in the middle, and the title didn't seem to fit with the plot I was reading...
But then, when the ending hit, I was THROWN. Where on earth the author came up with that, I have no clue. Honestly, I am in awe!

Greece, wine, Cosmos, and murder are the perfect combination in this unputdownable thriller. Is Alice a cold-hearted killer prone to blackouts, or is she an innocent victim of something far more sinister? Alice had me shaking my head and questioning some of her hasty choices. From fast friendships, courtships, and many glasses of wine, Alice is thrown into a world that is both alluring and terrifying. This is a cautionary tale to be careful what you wish for. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy.

A very slow read and even the twists at the end didn't do much for me. Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

I tried for quite a while to get into this book but it was all too muddled - divorce, assault, missing women - I just couldn't be bothered to read to to the end to find out how it all pieced together. Sorry,

Well thank you Sue Watson, you just about knocked the wind right out of me!

The Wedding Day, is a book that is impossible to put down. I zipped right through this one and just could not get to the next page fast enough. The dishes went unwashed, the clothes remain unfolded, and my poor pooch hasn't been walked since early this morning (Sorry, Rocky!)

Sue Watson, did a magnificent job with a storyline that kept me on the edge of my seat. The twist was WILD and my jaw hit the floor. This was my first book by Watson but I can guarantee you, it will not be my last!!!

Check out this teaser!

Today is supposed to be the day of my dreams.

But I don’t see a single friend or family member. I’m surrounded by strangers.

I have been so excited to finally meet my fiancé’s family.

Then why do they turn their heads away as I walk down the aisle?

Now, as I say my vows, I gaze longingly into Nik’s eyes.

But instead of love, he looks through me, as if he can’t wait for this day to end…

And I suddenly have an awful feeling that I don’t know my fiancé at all.

But then again, he doesn’t truly know me either.

And by the time he finds out who I really am, it will be far too late. There’s only room for one happily-ever-after on this wedding day, and I’m determined to make it mine…

Alice is a woman who has failed everything.

She failed to be a mother, wife and sister. Her career didn't work out either. She was obsessed with having a baby. She couldn't get pregnant. Medicine didn't help her either. She was fixated on pregnancy.

She is currently divorced. She has post-traumatic stress disorder. Unfortunately, she is an alcoholic and has a sentence hanging over her. She panicked when she saw her ex-husband's new partner. Why? The woman is pregnant. I was worried about our Alice. I didn't know what to do in this situation. She really wanted children. And here she saw that in some time her husband would have a child. I was horrified.

The main character escaped from justice in Corfu. There she met Nik Kouris.

Heather, Alice's sister, is terrified of her leaving alone. She is worried that her sister will be kidnapped. Perfect for profile other missing women.

Our heroine met Sylvie on the island. What will come of it?

Will it be good for her to run away from Britain? Will the police pursue her?

"The wedding day" is a very good psychological thriller. I found lots of twists and turns here. Honestly, I didn't expect them. I was shocked to learn the whole story. The heroine fell into quite a swamp. Will she open her eyes? Or will it be too late for her?

Author Sue Watson keeps us in suspense perfectly. It doesn't let us breathe for a moment.

I like the whole plot of the book. Alice is deeply scarred by life. She desperately wanted to get pregnant, but she couldn't. She watched the profile of her husband and his new partner. And she was breaking down more and more. When she saw them in the store, there was an unpleasant and even tragic incident, after which she left the country.

The author touched on very important topics here, including the insistence of having a child and what can happen to a woman who goes to an exotic country alone.

The desire to start all over again can lead to a tragic downfall.

Meet Alice and her fight for a better tomorrow.

Will the new people they meet turn out to be true friends? Will they open their hearts to her? Find out in the book The Wedding Day.

Very good action. There are good and very bad characters here. You will find human chameleons here. Will you discover in time who is good and who is evil?

I wholeheartedly recommend Sue Watson's latest novel.

The blushing bride. The handsome groom. A secret one of them will kill for…
This is a story of love and betrayal.
Most parts of this book was unrealistic, unbelievable and full of inconsistencies.
I get put off by weak and gullible main characters so I was irritated most of the time.
Are women such idiots that they had to be portrayed as such?
The only amazing thing was discovering certain secrets and twists.

Thanks Bookouture & NetGalley for this ARC

Another superbly satisfying, incredibly addictive twisted tale from this amazing author. What a book! I had to finish this one once I started it! Loved it so much. Very highly recommended

I was swept away from the beginning of this novel. Alice struck me as someone vulnerable and in need of saving. I rushed to read every chance I could to get to the bottom of the secrets & red flags that popped up, including ones of her own. There’s a huge one I never saw coming that turned out to be heartbreaking to learn. #TheWeddingDay left me with lots of feelings, but everything wrapped up and explained in the end! Page turning and solidify #SueWatson as a master in #psychologicalthrillers!

Thank you, @SueWatsonbooks, @Bookouture, & @netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.

As always, Sue Watson blew my mind with the plot twists! This was a slow burn for sure but the beginning is intriguing enough to suck you in and the ending makes you glad you stuck it out. I honestly hated every single character but that didn't change the fact that I enjoyed the story!

Oh so many sinister motives in this book but who is evil and who is not? Its a real puzzler. The people you think are decent may just be something else altogether…..I couldn’t put this down. This main character is running from an abusive ex husband who has betrayed her in the worst possible way and she thinks she has found her happy ever after but everything is not as it seems. Set in gorgeous Greece, you can almost taste the wine and feel the sun. It is beautifully written and full of tension….its builds up to a great ending. I really enjoyed it. Very good indeed!

Set in Corfu, this book really makes you feel like you're there and living the drama of the protagonist's life - the one she's run away from, and the new one she gets embroiled in. Her new life seems too good to be true, but I honestly didn't guess the twist and it left me genuinely gobsmacked. This is a fast paced and well written thriller with a great ending.

TRIGGER WARNING: infertility, miscarriage, domestic abuse, alcoholism
Alice escapes to Corfu after a disasterous encounter with her ex. Hiding from the police, she seeks friendship and love in the sun. But who can she trust?
The Wedding Day is a psychological thriller set in the UK and Corfu.
Alice has a troubled and emotional past. Raised by her sister Heather after the deaths of their parents, followed by an unhappy relationship with Dan that crumbled after their failure to have a baby. Now she faces prison after an incident she cannot recall due to PTSD blackouts, so she heads to Corfu.
Alice makes a firm friend of Sylvie who offers her a job and there is the potential of a romance with Nik. But his cousin and an antagonistic relationship with colleague Angelica mean that she isn't confident in her new life. Plus there are posters up around town of missing women, and one looks just like her...
There are multiple layers to this book as we have Alice's situation with the UK police and increasingly revealing snippets of her marriage. We then have her flourishing relationships with Sylvie and Nik set against her growing worry over jealous Angelica. Finally there are the mysterious disappearances of other women in the local area. Tension builds as Alice becomes fixated on Nik's cousin being responsible for killing women while police edge closer to finding Alice herself.
There are a number of mysteries to keep readers guessing: how did Dan get injured, who can Alice trust, what has happened to the missing women? I admit that I found the middle of the book a little long winded and without direction. No progress seemed to be made on any of the plot strands and I thought the scenarios repeated unnecessarily. Several times I tried to relate the plot to the prologue to work out what might happen. There were some huge twists in the final part of the book and plenty of drama throughout.
The Wedding Day is a multi layered psychological thriller with plenty of mystery.

Many thanks to Netgalley for the e-arc! I really enjoyed this book! It starts a little slow but stick with it. I loved Alice and found her struggles interesting and engaging character. (She did irate me a bit but I thought it was true to that character). Would recommend!
