Driven by loneliness, curses, and vengeance Atia, a Nefas or a monster of mischievous skills, sets out on a quest to make her world right again with a family ‘forged in choice.’ Alexandra Christo has built a world of monsters in plain sight who are far less the monsters and more human than those around them. A fun read with stops along several different realms that interweave the magical and the journey we all take to discover our true selves.

No one is more sad than I am that I did not like this. I LOVED To Kill a Kingdom, but the Night Hunt just never worked for me. I was bored for a lot of this. There were so many plot holes and I never understood our main character's motivations because her actions are not very monstrous, which is what I wanted.

I really wanted to love this book. Unfortunately I just did not connect with the writing style. The characters were great and I'm sure others would enjoy the plot but I could not get past the writing.

The Night Hunt is a brilliant book that seems to call into question what is it that makes us monsters, what is it to be holy, and what makes us human. The ideas of monsters versus humanity and the fact that our main monster is one that could be beneficial to humanity, consuming fear, if she doesn't, you know, scare them to death. I'm still not sure how to feel about the order that our leading man is a part of, or how people are punished for terrible things in their lives. This is a great twist on old mythology and Christo does a great job of making this mythology her own.

I adore the enemies to lovers between our Herald and our Monster. Unlikely allies trying to get a cure for what they are both dealing with to be who they were before. Having unlikely allies work together is one of my favorite tropes and I'm glad to have gotten to read it.

3.5 stars. This was an interesting read but it lacked a lot of what I have come to love from Alexandra! However, this was still very fun

This book was another one that I could not finish and that did not engage me well enough. It might be for some, but I need to be captivated and sucked in right away to finish a book.

Super fun and engaging! Absolutely loved the prose and the fast pace plot. The characters were also really interesting and I loved that it was Dual POV :)

It took me longer than I would’ve liked to finish this book, mainly because I couldn’t couldn’t connect to the writing and characters. I really wanted to like this book because the premise seemed really promising but the lack of connection made it difficult for me to fall in love with it.

Thank you to Netgalley and Feiwel and Friends for the ARC

I love this author, I love this title, and I will read anything by this author immediately. So should you. This book was pure YA-fantasy-goodness, with a grumpy, monstrous, fear-hungry FMC. I really liked the FMC, Atia. Her relationship with other characters in this book was what made it so fun to read, because she’s unapologetically herself. The side characters were fun as well! The wordbuilding was also exciting and vivid. The book never felt overwhelming and remained immersive throughout the experience of reading it. Thank you for the ARC!

I absolutely adored this book and am subsequently inspired to finally pick up Christo's previous works. The characters, the world, and the romance, there was nothing I didn't like about this book. That said, there is definitely something missing and so much more I'd like to explore in its world.

Alexandra Christo never lets me down. She is quickly becoming a favorite author. Her books never let me down, When i first heard that this book was coming out, i was so excited to get to it. Alas i must apologize to the author, publisher, and netgalley for not reviewing sooner. I had quite a health scare and was forced to take a hiatus so i could focus on my health. I read this book so long ago that my memory serves to defy me. I can only begin to tell you that i thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I read To Kill a Kingdom and was not let down. This book only proves to ,me that she is an very talented writer. Alexandras writing is incredibly vivid and fun. Her characters are thorough and her world building is out of this world. She is really creative with the mythology and fantasy spins. If i remember correctly this world was face paced and action packed. I literally could not put it down. This is an excellent YA book and would recommend to others.
Thank you Netgalley for the E-ARC and thank you to Alexandra Cristo as well as Macmillan Publishing for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a review. my deepest apologizes for just getting to this now.

I’m DNFing this at 65%. Not because it’s bad, I’m just bored with it and just can’t continue on. I just felt no connection with the characters or their relationships with each other. I enjoyed the beginning of this and the concept of it but just found it really lacking as I continued on. Again, there wasn’t anything that was bad about it, maybe it just isn’t for me

Book Review of The Night Hunt by Alexandra Christo

Cover Story: Montell Jordan
BFF Charms: Single White Female, Platinum Edition
Swoonworthy Scale: 8
Talky Talk: Hooked
Bonus Factors: Found Family, LGBTQIA+
Anti-Bonus Factor: Repetition
Relationship Status: Hoping and Wishing

Cover Story: Montell Jordan
It’s the perfect cover. I love everything about it. Throw a gorgeous monster on any book, and I will buy it.

The Deal
Atia is a powerful monster who feeds off of people’s fears. Mainly via nightmares, but sometimes her food container (human) is awake, and it’s a little sadistic but never deadly. Since this is a magical, mythological world, there are gods, and all gods forbid killing humans. Atia abides by this law mostly because she fears the consequences: curses bestowed by the gods are rarely good, and also because killing makes her feel bad. Who knew monsters had feelings?

Silas, herald extraordinaire and carter of souls for the gods, is sent to investigate Atia and her motives on Earth. But Silas has his own problems he’s trying to solve and many questions that need answers. It’s a good thing Atia might be the solution to it all.

BFF Charm: Single White Female, Platinum Edition
Two charms because Atia is all things I want to be, and Silas is the friend you want to have when all hell breaks loose.

Atia is a badass with some powerful magic who loves her friends and would destroy anyone who would have them harmed. This monster is as loyal as they come, and as much as she tries to shut herself off from other monsters (humans included) and the world, she’s kind of a teddy bear when you get to know her. She’s like a teddy bear holding a knife but still a teddy bear. Also, her whole look is a fantasy lover’s dream. BRANCH WINGS? Come on.

Silas is slightly more reserved with his feelings, but that’s reasonable when you understand his situation. His magic bestowed upon him from the gods makes him hella useful in a fight. Who wouldn’t want that kind of power in a best friend?

Swoonworthy Scale: 8
The romance was fantastic! I enjoyed Atia and Silas and the star-crossed lover vibe. There is a little back-and-forth banter between them, which is always appreciated; however, it did feel like instant attraction and love, which I get. Like, hey, being hunted and battling makes you long for that special someone, ya know? The romance did feel a bit rushed, but it was still sweet and more developed than other novels I’ve read.

Talky Talk: Hooked
Christo is a great writer. Her characters are believable, well-written, dynamic, and funny. Their world sounds magical and beautiful while still housing all human problems (greed and power are most relevant). There is monster lore, different kingdoms and realms. It’s a great escape from everyday life. Despite the novel’s fast pace, the ending was well-paced and gave a lot of closure, which everyone should appreciate.

Bonus Factor: Found Family
What a fun bunch. I enjoyed the dynamic between everyone in the group. Everyone brought something to the table, and it was lovely to witness the bonds forming between them all.

Bonus Factor: LGBTQIA+
There is a sprinkle of it in the book (give me more!), but it’s a cute relationship that blossoms naturally and one you will root for!

Anti-Factor: Repetition
It can’t all be good, right?! There was almost too much repetition from Atia and Silas about their motives. It was tedious with dual perspectives, but thankfully, the repetition petered out after the book’s first part.

Relationship Status: Hoping and Wishing
I just want more! I hope Christo develops more stories involving Atia and Silas and takes more time to get into the details of the world. I would follow this group into the underworld and back.

This book was truely one I could not put down. The misunderstood heroin is both deadly but can also find trust in humans that deserve her love. I’ve never read a more unique YA fantasy book, and the hints toward Greek mythology made me even more intrigued! As always Alexandra Christo does not disappoint!

I loved this story so much!! The main character is so broken and her development is amazing. I loved the twist. I called it pretty early but it didn't take away from the adventure like it normally does. Silas was rough around the edges and it was done so well. I wish there was more feelings around the identity reveal. I'm a sucker for found family and this was the epitome of it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a digital review copy.

I have heard great things about this author’s other book, To Kill a Kingdom, so I was interested in trying this zone. The cover and the premise really drew me in. However, I was a bit let down. The characters felt flat to me, and I never really connected with them. The story also kind of dragged and I found myself bored. There were a few moments with Atia and Silas that I found intriguing, but I was never super invested. This was fine, but not really for me.

“We all have a bit of monster in us. But we all have a bit of something else too.”

Alexandra Christo, author of To Kill A Kingdom and The Princess of Souls, comes back with a new novel: The Night Hunt. A dark fantasy romance that follows Atia, a monstrous girl who feeds on fear and nightmares, and Silas, a Gods-cursed boy who falls in love with her. As the last of her kind, Atia hides in the shadows to avoid the wrath of the unpredictable Gods. Silas, a Herald stripped of his human memories, seeks to recover his true identity. When the Gods send monsters to hunt Atia after she breaks a sacred law by killing a human, Silas offers a deal: he will help her avenge her family and defeat the Gods if she helps him break his curse. Together, along with a human boy who knows all about monsters and a half-banshee boy without a family, they set out on a quest to kill three powerful creatures and change their destinies.

The plot of the book is cleverly crafted, with surprising reveals and fast-paced action. This adventure story is enjoyable, and the comical dialogues offer a light-hearted feel to the darker aspects of the narrative. The found family aspect of the book shines through, creating a strong group dynamic among the characters.

Christo’s writing style is engaging and the younger tone of the characters would be particularly suited for young adult audiences. However, some characters may feel a bit flat at times, and the world-building could have been more developed. Despite these minor flaws, the story keeps readers hooked with its intriguing quest plot and the chemistry between Atia and Silas.

All in all, The Night Hunt is an electrifying fantasy romance that explores themes of gods, monsters, and the blurred lines between them. Christo skilfully blends snarky banter with gore elements, creating a sort of enemies-to-lovers romance set in a page-turning adventure. Overall, this book offers fast-paced fun and is recommended for fans of dark YA fantasy and mythical tales.

I loved this book! Alexandra Christo is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I first read To Kill A Kingdom by her and I’ve been a fan ever since.

The Night Hunt drew me in with the cover. The art is stunning and really draws your attention. The book follows Atia, a Nefas monster that feeds on fear. Ever since her parents died, she’s been alone and always trying to stay hidden. In this world monsters have to go by rules from the gods that created them. The biggest rule being that if they kill a human, the monster will become cursed and they will start to lose what makes them a monster and they could die. There are also beings known as heralds, who were once human, but after they died became servants to the gods and have to ferry the dead to the afterlife.

Atia has always been careful to never kill a human. However, one night while defending her friend she accidentally kills someone. This leads to a herald of the gods, named Silas to appear and curse her. Silas isn’t like all the other heralds. He has a mind of his own and he desperately wants to remember who he was as a human. When he finds out there is a way to get his humanity back, he convinces Atia to help him, because if she does he can help her break her curse. All they have to do is kill a few monsters and a god.

I really enjoyed the world building and characters in this book. Atia is such a fun character. She’s fun and feisty. I also loved the found family aspect of this book. They had such a great group dynamic and I was rooting for them all the way. This is such an amazing book and I already want to read it again!
