After the death of her own daughter, police officer Sally Fairburn has left the police force to become a victim's advocate. Still haunted by a case called the "Poster Killer", she maintains contact with the victims' parents. Each killing was preceded by a missing poster with the victim's face on it. The man sentenced in the cases maintains he was innocent and only wants to talk to Sally. When a poster with her face appears, she realizes there must be something to what he says.

The first book in a new series by LA Larkin, the author writes a solid mystery while building the character backgrounds to understand who Sally and her family are. Sally is dealing with the suicide of her daughter, a divorce from a manipulative husband, and a son who blames her for it. Larkin shakes out these relationships while still providing a solid mystery/thriller option. I'm really looking forward to continuing this series.

DNF...
Found this one incredibly hard to follow. It felt like it tried to be suspenseful, but got too complex and the important details got lost. Did my best to push on, but I was not entertained... :(

This is the first book in the series featuring ex police officer Sally Fairburn. Sally joined the police force and ended up marrying her mentor Scott. After enduring an abusive marriage they divorced and Sally left the police force to become a victim support officer. She lives with her son Paul, but is consumed with guilt as her teenage daughter Zelda committed suicide and she feels responsible. Sally is supporting the families of a serial killer nicknamed as the Poster Killer. Four years ago six young girls went missing with the killer putting up missing posters, a man was found guilty and jailed. But Sally is puzzled and worried when she is out running and comes across another missing poster with her face on it. The killer still protests his innocence and wants Sally to visit him and he will reveal who the Poster Killer really is. This book is full of tension and suspense with so many twists and turns that put Sally and Paul’s lives in danger. This was a really gripping read and I look forward to the next book in the series.

This has been sat on my shelf for a while - probably because I always found something I was more excited about reading!
I have to be honest, I found the first half easy to ready, but a little slow. It then sped up like a runaway train and I found myself unable to put it down, absolutely loving how it threw me off the truth and made me gasp out loud a few times! Brilliant read, and I have now started book 2!

I received a copy of this book in exchnge for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley.

This was my first book from L.A. Larkin. Next Girl Missing is book one in the "a sally fairburn crime thriller" series. And if this book is any indication of what this series will be like; then this will be a fantastic series for any thriller fan.

The author did an amazing job with the worldbuilding in this book. I also loved the pace of the book. There's nothing worse for me than if there's too many slow chapters or major lulls in the book. That didn't happen with this one thankfully.

Sally Fairburn is quite an intresting character overall!

I’m impressed. Usually I don’t hold out much hope for police force murder mystery books but, this was good.

The plot was well thought out and flowed. All loose ends were tied up while also leaving a further story line to flow into the next book.

I really liked the layering of the characters and how they all intertwined together while keeping the storylines straight. I can’t wait to see where this author takes their books.
