I received an eARC for my honest opinion.

I really do love this series so much, and every time that I get approved to read her eARC I jump around with happiness.

In this book you will be taken away from Montrel and go on an adventure with Tempe to the Turks and Caicos Islands. When you get there, you find yourself in yet another mystery, only this time it’s with two different detectives.

I thought the plot was well developed, it was fast-paced and just like her other books not an info dump but given to you throughout the book. I really enjoyed that this book was a little more about Tempe doing the detective thing again, but no worries you will still see bones in this book. I know that Reichs has written books like this in the series before and I love that it’s a little switch up between books because it’s not the same thing over and over. The characters of course were great.

I love the Tempe Brennan characters so much; from Ryan to Tempe, to Tempe’s sister to all the interesting characters that she meets along the way in the book. Tempe is one of my favorite characters in books that I have read. I like that is smart, but really does not rub it in, I love that she sometimes jumps into situations before thinking and learns to figure out how to get herself out of it. I loved that in this book you still get to see the badass female character that is smart, beautiful and knows her way around the crime scene. I do wish that we could have seen a little more of Ryan in this book, but I know that it's not all the time about Her and Ryan working together but they just work so well together.

This book could be read as a standalone, but I do not recommend it. You will be missing out on an amazing series.

I cannot wait to see what is next in store for Tempe.

I want to thank NetGalley and Scribner for the opportunity to review this book.

While I haven't read all the books in the series, I've read many of them. They can be read as standalones. Sadly, this wasn't my favorite. In general, I've found that I prefer the TV character Bones to the book character Bones. The book version comes across as a bit lackluster, even though I try to envision the TV actress while reading. Many parts were predictable, so the twists weren't much of a surprise. It seems like the author was trying to bring together two different storylines, and it just didn't work, as it just felt jumbled and confusing. Parts, including the ending, felt a bit rushed.

The twenty-second Temperance Brennan novel opens in the familiar territory of Montréal (I recently returned from a trip there, so many of the street and place names had a fresh familiarity). While investigating the remains of a presumptive lightning strike victim Tempe finds a tattoo that identifies the victim with possible gang activity in the Turks and Caicos Islands. She contacts the authorities there and is surprised when Detective Musgrove insists upon coming to Montréal to investigate the case in person.

It turns out that Musgrove has another agenda. She has been stumped by a series of apparent serial murders. Two of the victims have been recently discovered, and no one in the islands has Tempe's forensic expertise, so Musgrove extends an invitation. After a moment's hesitation Tempe accepts, so the final three-quarters of the story takes place on the islands: a fresh setting with a fresh set of characters.

As they are landing Musgrove receives news of another situation that could use Tempe's skills: a mysterious small boat, adrift with everyone aboard dead. Eventually, this turns out to be related to the serial investigation in a completely surprising way. Of course, this is only the first of many surprises. One obvious suspect after another is eliminated, but nothing prepares Tempe and her colleagues for the final resolution. Tempe becomes personally involved in the investigation (as usual) enough that her life is threatened (also as usual). Along with her partner Ryan and several planeloads of passengers! The story really piles on twists at the end, but the resolution is very satisfying.

Thanks to NetGalley for the Advance Reader's Copy.

The Bone Hacker is book 22 (!!!) in the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs and I just loved it. I look forward to reading a new installment every summer and (in the words of my sister) “not to be dramatic but I’m going to have a menty b” if I ever have to say goodbye to this world. So first and foremost, thank you to Kathy and the team at Scribner for keeping me in Bones books.

The Bone Hacker starts off with a BANG - or should I say, a BOLT - and draws you in right away. Overall, the story felt lighter on the bones and heavier on the detective work compared to other installments - not good or bad, just an observation and FYI for future readers. There are plenty of twists and turns, red herrings, and tiny clues sprinkled throughout, and of course, the ending is clever and satisfyingly neat.

Per usual, KR’s scene setting is phenomenal. She’s the queen (among murder mystery authors) of bringing her setting to life. From the soaring bridges of Montreal to the crystal blue waters of Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), I felt like I was THERE. On a completely unrelated note, both Montreal and TCI are on my bucket list now 🙂

The only thing missing for me in The Boner Hacker is Ryan. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still in Tempe’s life and they’re in a really good place. BUT he’s not a huge presence in this installment and I missed him! We LOVE to see Tempe and Ryan doing so well and it was a bit unsatisfying for their time together in the story to be so limited. Note to the author - give us more Ryan!

*Thank you to Netgalley, Scribner, and Kathy Reichs for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

Kathy Reichs has and will forever be my favorite author. I can barely wait for each new Tempe book to be released. As such a huge fan, I have high hopes for each installation of the series, and with Bone Hacker, I was not disappointed in the slightest. If I could give this book six stars, I would, but I will have to settle for five. Like always, I’m ready for the next book!

Called in to examine what is left of a body struck by lightning, Tempe traces an unusual tattoo to its source and is soon embroiled in a much larger case. Young men—tourists—have been disappearing on the islands of Turks and Caicos for years. Seven years ago, the first victim was found in a strange location with both hands cut off; the other visitors vanished without a trace. But, recently, tantalizing leads have emerged and only Tempe can unravel them.

I enjoyed the mystery aspect of this installment and were it lead us. I only wish that we have had more Ryan and Tempe time. I love their chemistry and the time the have on page. The mystery took some twist and turns that I was not expecting and like always I was not able to guess what was going on until the end.

This is a series that I enjoyed and I think this was a wonderful installment and I cannot wait to see waht Kathy Reich does next with the story.

An interesting addition to a good series. Take a trip to T&C. Especially enjoyable if one has been there or has a desire to go. Many new characters add to this tale. It kept me guessing. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

Thank you NetGalley and Scribner for an advanced readers copy of The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs.

I’ve been a fan of Reichs since her Déjà Dead, the 1st book in her Temperance Brennan series. This book was not for me. It took nearly 25% of it to get into the story. For me, the converging cases didn’t work. It was too long, too wordy and a bit inconceivable.

Pros: Tempe, a strong, smart and determined MC. Montreal and Turks & Caicos

Cons: the plots being forced to merge. Missing all our favorite characters normally included in the series.

This was a great read with lots of suspense and mystery. It kept the reader wanting more.I love this writer and this series. I look forward to what she has in store next . There is rumors they may bring back the show connected to this story line and even that was just as good.

I always want to love a Kathy Reichs novel and I did enjoy and do recommend The Bone Hacker, but it fell a little short for me to love it. I do enjoy the adventure of heading to the Turks and Caicos, a place I have never been, but loved learning about, murder and all.

I smiled and laughed at the picture her words brought to mind of her dog, Birdie, sitting at the table minding her manners so she can eat with her human family.

A death in Canada has her on a plane to the Turks and Caicos faster than she can think, WTH. And there my confusion begins. Kathy Reichs has so much going on that doesn’t seem to connect in any way. I know to be patient, that most authors will bring it all together and once I have the full picture it all makes sense.

For an established author like Kathy Reich, I have very high expectations and look for excellence. I did not find that here, but Musgrove, then Monk grew on me. Island life doesn’t function the same as on the mainland, and I love the individuality of the characters.

I didn’t find anything earth shattering, but The Bone Hacker did have its moments. It confirmed for me…privacy is an illusion. If half of what I read in the book was true, unless you are completely off the grid, big brother is watching.

I enjoyed The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs, but it was not one of my favorites. Regardless, I am sure I will pick up the next book of hers I see.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs.

The Bone Hacker is number 22 in the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs.
Reichs gives plenty of background and very few cases overlap so they could be ready in any order but I love a good long series and her writing is why I am still here.
This book was just as good as the rest. I loved being back with Tempe, the twists and suspense were great.

The Bone Hacker is the 22nd (!!!) Dr. Temperance Brennan novel by Dr. Kathy Reichs. Released 1st Aug 2023 by Simon & Schuster on their Scribner imprint, it's 336 pages and available in all formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats.

This has been, and continues to be, one of my favorite modern series. Despite the 'Hollywood-ization' of many other series, Dr. Brennan remains scrappy, dispassionate, wonderfully intelligent, non-glamorous, and ethical. The author is prolific and more than capable, delivering a tightly wrought and technically masterful book. As always, there's some interdepartmental strife, office politics, background information and interesting tidbits about forensic anthropology and science, and a compellingly complex and well constructed multi-thread plot with lots of twists. The returning/ensemble cast are so well fleshed out at this point that they really live and breathe on the page. The dialogue is never clunky, and the editing is seamless.

Although there's a lot of history and backstory covered in the previous 21 books, the author is adept enough that this one could be read as a standalone for readers who are not already fans. The entire series is well worth a read, and I recommend them highly, especially to fans of modern police/medical procedurals. With such a long running series, it would make a great choice for a long binge/buddy read project, or selection for a book club study.

Four and a half stars. Consistently top notch books.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Another great book by Reichs! This was a suspenseful, riveting forensic book. Brennan is called to the Turks to investigate a series of murders. Although this is a series of books it can easily be read as a stand alone. Wonderfully written book with details about forensics that is written in such a way that the reader can easily understand. Looking forward to her next book! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

Another great addition to the Temperance Brennan world! This book had me hooked from the start. The angst and twists and turns made this a fast read... I finished it in one day :)

The characters and setting in this book made me wish I was in Turks and Caicos. I love that this novel took Temperance out her everyday world and allowed for her to meet several interesting individuals along the way. The banter between her and "Monk" had me laughing a couple of times in the novel.

The story kept me entertained and engaged throughout. I love that Kathy Reichs uses to appropriate terminology and descriptions for the details in the book, but she does it in a way that doesn't make me feel that I need a medical degree to understand.

Thank you to the author, Scribner, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book.

Narrated by the one and only forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, this is the 22nd book in the series and, in my opinion, the best one so far! I loved how the book started with danger and high tension and kept it revved up throughout the entire plot. There were a lot of twists and unexpected events that I never saw happening as Tempe is faced with perhaps finding a gang of killers operating from the Turks and Caicos and spreading their murders globally. The victims that keep showing up at some very strange places are all young men and the only thing that they have in common is a mysterious tattoo. I especially enjoyed how Tempe went about solving the murders as well as tying all of the loose ends together. I was repeatedly led astray by fake trails and clues and loved those parts of the book. Seeing the continuing relationship between Tempe and Andrew Ryan was a bonus and I loved how they continue their brilliant repartee and sizzling love affair. The book was all that I hoped for in a new Temperance Brennan novel and more. Dynamic characters keeping me on the edge of my seat and reading long into the night…perfect book to entertain and to provoke some pondering about the mysteries of life! This book can definitely be read and enjoyed as a standalone, but I wouldn’t miss a single book in the series!

Temperance Brennan is on top of her game in The Bone Hacker, as is Reichs in her writing. Heading to Turks and Caicos on an official investigation, Tempe finds herself wondering why she is really there and what secrets those she is working with are hiding. While I prefer spending more time with Tempe in Montreal and her usual cadre than she was able to in this book (or in NC as in other books), I found the visit to the Turks and Caicos an interesting backdrop to the mysteries she was attempting to solve. I found the whys and hows of the deaths in this one particularly intriguing, and I found myself guessing crazy solutions until the answers were revealed. New characters who Brennan needed to work with were multi-layered and provided different types of challenges for her to face. Overall, this was quite a satisfying read for me.

Thank you to Scribner, Netgalley, and author Kathy Reichs for early access to a digital copy of this book.

The Bone Hacker is the 15th book in Kathy Reichs's Temperance Brennan series. In this installment, Brennan is called to investigate the murder of a young woman whose body has been found in a remote area of Quebec. The victim has been dismembered and her bones have been arranged in a macabre display.

Brennan quickly realizes that she is dealing with a twisted and sadistic killer. The evidence at the scene suggests that the killer has a deep understanding of human anatomy, and Brennan must use all of her forensic skills to track down the perpetrator.

The Bone Hacker is a fast-paced and suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. Reichs does an excellent job of developing the characters and creating a sense of dread and foreboding. The plot is well-crafted and the pacing is perfect.

If you are a fan of crime thrillers or forensic science, then you will definitely want to check out The Bone Hacker. It is a well-written and exciting read that will keep you entertained from beginning to end.

The plot of the book was suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat. I was impressed by Reichs's ability to create a sense of dread and foreboding.
The pacing of the book was perfect. It was not too slow or too fast, and it kept me engaged throughout.
Overall, I thought that The Bone Hacker was a well-written and exciting thriller. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys crime thrillers or forensic science. The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs is a highly recommended thriller and the 22nd novel in the series featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance (Tempe) Brennan.

For this outing Tempe starts out in Montreal, Canada, but circumstances send her to a tropical setting in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI). In Canada, while examining a young man thought to have been struck by lightning, Tempe notices a an unusual tattoo that she discovers is tied to the islands of Turks and Caicos. Tiersa Musgrove, the police superintendent there, enlists her help to solve the disappearance of male tourists over the years. These cases are ongoing and when new bodies turn up, the potential danger to Tempe also rises.

The writing is entertaining and intelligent, as expected, and Tempe is always a perceptive, strong and resourceful character. She is capable and able to uncover evidence and clues needed to figure out what is going on with her cases. And, while in the investigations of the cases are interesting, there is always danger nearby and it always comes uncomfortably close to Tempe.

As with other books in the series, The Bone Hacker can be read as a stand alone novel. Author Kathy Reichs, much like her fictional character, is a forensic anthropologist for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, State of North Carolina, and for the Laboratoire des Sciences Judiciaires et de Médecine Légale for the province of Quebec. This expertise and insight is brought into every novel she writes.

The Bone Hacker is book #22 in the Temperance Brennan Novel series by Kathy Reichs.

Tempe is called to examine the remains of person who was hit by lightning but it isn’t that simple.

I enjoyed this book and the series. The book started out as a wild ride and just kept going. This was a complex case and I like following along with Tempe’s investigation.
I guessed the who but not the why. I look forward to Tempe’s next investigation.

Thank you to the author, Scribner, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
