This is the first book in the series featuring DI Lexi Bennett. She has just returned to Canterbury to head the Major Investigation Team after working with the FBI in the United States. On the first morning of her new job she goes for an early run and comes across the bodies of two sisters, Lucy and Eden. They are lying side by side with their throats cut. But Lexi is shocked when she learns that the sisters were triplets and the third sister Paige is missing. We then learn that this is a case of deja vu for Lexi. She was a triplet and her and her two sisters were kidnapped as teenagers. Lexi and her sister Amber escaped but they never saw their other sister Rose again. On investigating the case Lexi realises that the killer is the same person who abducted her and her sisters. Can she find Paige before it’s too late? The story is told mainly from Lexi’s point of view with added chapters from the killer’s perspective. This book had me totally gripped and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book,

A start to a new series featuring Lexi Bennett, a police detective. This one started out fast and we were quickly introduced to the MC and her skillset! There were lots of characters and they were varied and interesting with many threads of relationships. The storyline was good, though a few times I was wondering if I missed something. The story had a good build and the ending was good. It was a solid start to a series I will want to continue.

Thanks to netgalley for supplying this advanced copy for the purpose of review.

This was a great start to what looks like a new series. I found it to be an angering police procedural with a strong lead.

The Girls on Chalk Hill by Alison Belsham and Narrated by Sofia Zervudachi is the first book in the new Detective Lexi Bennett series and what a brilliant start this was. I found the narrator Sofia excellent and she made the audiobook come alive.
I really enjoyed learning about DI Lexi Bennett character, she has just returned to Canterbury after a stint with the FBI in the United States. Just before her first day in her new job, she goes for a run and finds she finds the two teenagers lying side by side on the quiet green hillside, their throats cut. She hasn't even met her new team yet! But what a way to meet her colleagues and especially stumble on her first case!
The victims are identified as Lucy and Eden Carter. Then,Lexi’s blood turns cold. The sisters were triplets..........and the third girl, Paige, is missing.
Lexi, suddenly feels this case is frighteningly personal. Lexi was a triplet too, and she and her sisters were abducted as teens. Two of them escaped but Lexi’s dreams are still haunted by memories of the faceless man who took them, and her sister Rose , who she never saw again.

Are they connected to each other?

This audiobook/book is so good and a great page turner if you are reading it. It was a book that will have you gripped from the beginning till the end and I am looking forward to the next book in the excellent Detective Lexi Bennett series

This new series starts with a bang! Lexi, a strong detective, suffered a horrible tragedy as a child. This case l brings her right back to there. The fast paced work of Lexi & the supporting cast to not only solve this current crime but hers as well is so engaging with things that you can’t imagine. I readily give this 5⭐️ and can’t wait for the rest of the #DetectiveLexiBennettseries.

Thank you, Alison Belsham, Bookouture, & Netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.

Book one of a fabulous new series from Alison Belsham, all set in the Kent countryside close to where I live. Lexi Bennett’s first case back at home seems a bit close to home - abducted triplet sisters - just like her own kidnapping with her sisters years before. Lexi’s sister was never found and 2 of the triplets are already dead. Can she find the third?
An excellent read.

Out for her morning run before her first day at work back after working in America for a few years, Lexi stumbles across two dead bodies. The killings are brutal and ritualistic in manner, and the victims are identical twins. It turns out there are actually triplets, so where is the third sister? For Lexi this case hits very close to home, as almost 20 years ago Lexi and her fellow triplet sisters were kidnapped. Her and amber escaped, but Rose never did. Is this the same killer back again, or a copy cat?

A little long and slow due to it being a police procedural, but overall a good story that kept me interested to keep reading to find out who the killer was.

Having never before red any of Alison Belsham books I was delighted to receive this arc through net galley.

When two girls dressed in crowns are placed on a route Lexie always runs, and she is first on the scene. The mystery begins as to who has done this and if it is something to do with Lexies's past. Lots of twists along the way..

I loved this book and the way Lexie and her team fit together. I loved it so much I went and bought the second book in the series immediately and I am currently reading it.

4 stars

Book 1 in the DI Lexie Bennett series, this is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more.
After a 4 year stint with the FBI Lexie returns home as a DI. On her first day in her new job she stumbles on the bodies of twins, only to learn soon after they are actually triplets and the third sister remains missing.
It’s a race against the clock to find the missing triplet as Lexie has to reach into her past, she herself a triplet and had been kidnapped herself as a teen. How does this new case relate to her past? A great beginning to this series, would have liked to see more in the ending but hopefully there will be more resolution in future books.

We are introduced to Detective Lexi Bennett when she finds 2 teenagers brutally murdered. After working for the last few years with the FBI in the United State Lexi is thrust straight into her first case.

She soon discovers they were in fact triplets and Paige is still missing. Is a copycat to blame or is it the same person who kidnapped Lexi and her 2 sisters when they were teenagers with her sister Rose never found.

This was a great start to the series. I really liked Lexi as a character and would love to read more about her. I was gripped throughout the story not sure exactly who was responsible.

I listened on audio and thought the narrator did a great job of all the characters.

The Girls on Chalk Hill is the first book in the Detective Lexi Bennett Book and what a start it is. It was a fast paced read and I loved how the trauma from Lexi's past intertwined with the current story and I am really looking forward to reading more in this series.

3.5 stars rounded up

I really enjoyed meeting Lexi Bennett and I'm looking forward to more books in this series. I loved how her history tied into the current crimes and how she juggled her trauma with her police role. The ending felt a bit anti-climatic by the time we got there and wasn't memorable, but overall the story was compelling and I absolutely didn't want to stop reading it. It will be interesting to see how this case and her relationships within the department play into future books.

A huge thank you to the author and the publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

I love nothing more than when its personal for a detective in a crime novel and this one hits it out of the park. Lexi is a triplet and was abducted years ago and one of her sisters did not survive. And at the start of this one she stumbles across twins that were murdered when she is out on her run. Only to investigate and find out they are triplets and one of them is missing. How does it get any more personal than that? I was hooked. Now throw in some chapters from the killer’s point of view, so the readers know more than the detectives and get to watch her piece it together. I really like the start of this new series.

We learn about what brings Lexi to this point in her life and to this new job she is starting. She doesn’t feel like a dime a dozen detective. We meet her new team and get to see how they operate as they work together to save the missing triplet. I wanted to watch the cat and mouse game unfold right from the start. The triplet story is fresh and something I haven’t read before even though I have read more than my share of detective novels. The story was layered and kept me wanting to know how it would end. This wasn’t just will they find the killer, but will they figure it out in time to save the missing triplet.

Lexi is a relatable character and there is more to her story that I want to see unfold in future books in the series. I am really looking forward to reading more in this series.

If you are looking for a new take on the detective series, I would pick this one up. You won’t be disappointed.

The Girls on Chalk Hill is book 1 in a new series by Alison Belsham featuring Detective Lexi Bennett. Lexi had returned to Canterbury to hear up the new Major Investigation Team. Day one should have seen her meet her new colleagues at the station. Instead, during an early morning run, she discovers the bodies of two young women, obviously twins. When they get the news that they're actually triplets, Lexi has to face the fact that this may be a copycat killer of even the same person, who killed her sister - themselves being triplets!!

I feel we are going to learn more about Lexi over the coming series but my first impression is that she is a very strong, focused woman who is determined to keep the city of Canterbury safe. An awesome start to what I'm sure we'll be a fantastic new series.

This is a story that starts with a punch and never stops keeping you on the edge and punching.
Lexi Bennet is an unusual MC: a British detective who worked with FBI and has a tragic past. All these elements will play in this gripping story and there’s also something that I think will be featured in the next stories.
That said is an excellent debut as it’s a twisty and emotionally charged story that keeps you guessing and it’s full of surprises.
Lexi and the cast of characters are fleshed out and realistic, you cannot help feel for the victims and I found the unsub quite terrifying.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This is a fast paced, police procedural novel with well developed characters, especially Detective Lexi Bennett whose traumatic past gives her an exceptional degree of empathy for the victims. I read this quickly in just over a day. The story, told from two perspectives - the detective and the killer, moves along at breakneck pace. I couldn't put it down. Looking forward to reading the next book in this new series. Highly recommended

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced reading copy.

Two girls are found dead. They are a part of a set of triples so where is the third girl? Can Inspector Lexi Bennett work past her own dark history to catch the killer?

This book was fast paced. I loved Lexi as she was such a strong, female character. I love how this book just got straight into the case. I also liked the small glimpse we got of the other characters but I do wish that we got to see more team involvement and got to know them more because at times, it felt like the Tom and Lexi show. I also feel like Colin was completely forgotten about in this? Compared to others, he was hardly mentioned.

I liked how I was kept guessing and I had no idea who the killers was until it revealed. I also loved how it included the killer’s POV, it was so fascinating to learn more about him from his own account, although it added such a creepy element to the story.

However, I did have some issues with this book. First, Lexi shouldn’t have been allowed on this case or to interview the killer. As a result of her remaining on the case, whenever anyone brought up her own dark history, she got so angry with them even though it was essential to know for the current case. I feel like you have to suspend belief for this aspect of the book.

There were also subplots that weren’t fully concluded, which made me question why they were brought into the story in the first place. I also hate when in thrillers, the lead detectives will go off on their own, put themselves in danger and not wait for backup. Despite its flaws, I think this is a great way to start off a new thriller series and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.
