Wow the 18th book in the DI Kim Stone series and it just keeps getting better! This is one of my favorite series. This book pulls you in right from the beginning. The plot was enthralling. Are there psychics and people who can talk to the dead? It was fascinating to read about the tells and clues by just paying close attention to people. This was such an engrossing book. I loved it. Can't wait to read the next one.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Angela Marsons for a copy of "Deadly Fate" in exchange of an honest review.

I’ve been reading this series from the beginning. This entry was solid, but it did somewhat lack the usual spark I find Angela Marsons’ books to have. I can’t wait to see if some details are worked out in the next book. Looking forward to more by this author.

3.5 - not in my top favorites of the 18 Kim Stone books but still entirely solid. I could tell a lot of research went into the plot and while it was often interesting, it was a little different feel for what I expect a Kim Stone book to be. I am really looking forward to see how things work out in the next book (staying spoiler free)

I've been reading Kim Stone mysteries for year and alway enjoyed them as they're well plotted and entertaining story.
This one was complex, with a number of subplots that could be or not relevant to the solution.
Kim Stone is back in force and her team is working well. The mystery kept me guessing and I was surprised by the solution.
I liked all the explanations about the tricks used to read people and appreciated how the author dealt with the different cases of toxic masculinity.
One note: I was a bit perplexed by Stacey but I think we will know about her choices in the next story.
4.5 upped to 5
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

3.5 star rating.

Deadly Fate is keeping the entire team incredibly busy, as there are several active cases. Kim is investigating psychics, that are being brutally murdered. Also while trying to track down the killer, she has a desire to look into an old case. Penn is trying figure out the death of a homeless man. And without spoiling anything, Stacey has got some serious trouble on her hands.

Book 18 was good, but not as intense as most of Angela’s other offerings. While I did enjoy it, something felt amiss. IMO Kim felt oddly out of sorts. She didn’t have the fire that she usually possesses. Also Stacey seemed ditzy, and scatterbrained. I realize she is under duress, but it feels like all of her common sense goes out the window.

On a positive note, I found the psychic angle very interesting. I’ve never really seen it from so many different perspectives. I also appreciated that Tink was involved. I enjoy her character, and I feel like she adds something to Kim’s team.

Overall I definitely recommend checking out Deadly Fate, as it will keep you turning pages. Just don’t expect to feel the electricity you may have experienced, while reading some of your other favorite books in the series.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Angela Marsons. The digital ARC was presented to me in exchange for my honest review. - Publication date is May 25, 2023.

I have read a few in this series now and have found they work just as well as stand-alones as they do as part of a series. This was a cracker, a great subject - psychics - and interesting sub-plots, some of which came together at an enthralling conclusion. I love the pace of the writing, keeping us jogging through the pages, having to read one more chapter, then another until you realise you've stayed up way too late. Definitely compulsive! And there is an enticing loose end, drawing us on to the next book in the series.

Another great story from the mistress of Black Country Thrillers.
This time we are in the world of clairvoyants and seers and some really grisly murders.
And just when things seemed sorted among the team of detectives led by Kim Stone, the threads are tightening on a plot to come.
Great

My favourite book series! I love love love DI Kim stone. The story line, the characters, it keeps you hooked and leaves you devastated when the book is finished! Please never end this series Angela Marsons!

Another belter from Angela Marsons. Kim Stone is one of the best characters to come from British crime fiction this decade. Love the dynamics of her team and character development within.
I have recommended this series to loads of people.

When the body of psychic Sandra Deakin is found in a churchyard with multiple stab wounds, DI Kim Stone finds herself interviewing a group of women who had recently engaged her for a reading. Each of these women had their own reason for wanting to speak to a psychic but each of these women are also hiding their true motives. During the course of her investigation, Kim uncovers an unsolved murder, but is it linked to the case she is working on?

We are now 18 books into the Kim Stone series and they really do get better and better. In Deadly Fate, Angela Marsons has once again given us a highly engaging plot, one that kept me gripped from page one right until the very shocking end. I am always in awe at how, so far into a series, each plot is so different and of such good quality.

Deadly Fate has a multi-faceted plot, the initial death of Sandra Deakin leading the detective to uncovering several other crimes. With so much going on, it would be easy for the plot to become confusing but this is definitely not the case here. Each sub-plot is well written and equally absorbing, helping to lead us to a clever, unexpected conclusion.

One of the main strengths of this series has always been the lead characters and how, over the years, they have become like old friends. Angela Marsons has a terrific knack for making Kim and her team feel like real people and so when one of them faces danger, it almost feels personal! In Deadly Fate, Kim has outdone herself, introducing a plot which puts one of the main players at the forefront, leaving us desperately waiting for book 19 in order to see the outcome!

I will never tire of this series and I hope that Angela Marsons doesn’t either!

Fantastic as usual. I really enjoyed this outing with the team. Cannot wait for the next one. It feels like being with good friends and I just adore Kim

This is one of my favorite crime series. The books in the series never disappoint. I always enjoy the read. It is almost like catching up with old friends. If you can have a book boyfriend, then I can have book friends. While the lives and friendships run from book to book and grow, there is a crime specific to each book. You can pick this series up at any point and read any book as the author gives you all the details you need. But with that said, you really should read them all.

I love that a psychic is at the center of this one. It gives another layer to the victim that needs to be sussed out. Do you believe they are real or are they frauds? Do they serve a purpose or are they just a con? Does this play into the crime or just a red herring? The team works to solve her murder while at the same time tracking down the identity of a homeless man. The multiple storylines always weave together throughout the story. I love the dynamic of the team and the supporting characters. They are relatable, especially when they work to find the identity of the homeless man. The compassion of showing everyone has a story and someone that might miss them.

I love reading how the team tracks down leads to solve the crime(s) but I also like that there is a balance between the work and personal lives of the characters. In this one Stacey’s personal life takes center stage and is a bit scary.

It’s a fast paced read that kept me engaged from the beginning to the end. The mystery kept me guessing and while I don’t normally read a crime novel for a cover, I love this one! It would get my attention sitting on a shelf.

If you didn’t believe me earlier, you need to read this series.

I can’t believe it’s the 18th book in my favourite series already!!! Kim Stone is the ultimate in bad ass detectives and in each one we seem to delve deeper into her character, even after so far into the series.
I love catching up with her and the team, as they investigate complex and intriguing cases.
I really hope this series carries on forever

Oooh this book was another cracker from Angela Marsons – I loved it!!

The book was well written and I loved the flow for the story. The length of the chapters was spot on and I liked the whole was that the story was told. There was the perfect amount of detail to bring the story to life and I loved the different themes in the book and that Penn also took a lead with this one with Stacey not far behind.

This is the 18th book in the series and it is a series that is getting stronger and stronger, the plots are just as strong and well developed and this author is one that I would go to read without any hesitation. You know just from seeing her name that the story will be brilliant and you will get a very good quality crime thriller.

It is 5 stars from me for this one, no hesitation in giving the book the full 5 stars – it was a gripping page turner that had me well and truly hooked!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Deadly Fate' by Angela Marsons.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Angela Marsons, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 25th May 2023.

This is the twelfth book I have read by this author and it is the eighteenth book in the 'Detective Kim Stone' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read the first 7 books in the 'Detective Kim Stone' plus the fourteenth to seventeenth book which I loved and would recommend. Sadly I haven't had time to read from the 8th book until the fourteenth but will definitely be making time to as I LOVE KIM STONE!!!

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is a 'Totally addictive with a final twist that will leave you shouting out loud, you’ll want to inhale Deadly Fate in one sitting. Fans of Karin Slaughter, Val McDermid and Robert Dugoni will love the new crime thriller from the number one multi-million-copy bestselling author Angela Marsons'. I am a fan of all three of these authors especially Karin Slaughter so am looking forward to see if it lives up to this statement. I am also a MASSIVE fan of Angela Marsons and the Kim Stone series and if this is half as good as the rest it is sure to be a great read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 82 chapters. The chapters are short in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in West Midlands, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. I have actually visited the West Midlands on several occasions so am looking forward to see if I recognise anywhere.

This book is written in a mix of third and first person perspective with the main protagonists being Detective Kim Stone, Detective Penn, Detective Stacey Wood and an unknown narrator. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything. To have the benefit of both first and third person perspective ensures you don't miss out on anything.

'Deadly Fate' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Angela discusses/includes sexual assault and hate crime.

OMG!!! SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO US ANGELA!!!! JUST WOW!!!! Seriously love, love LOVED this book!!!! Although, shouldn't be so shocked, it is Angela Marsons and Kim Stone after all!!!! Anyway, on with the review shall I....

Angela's style of writing is absolutely fantastic. She has a way in which she completely absorbs the reader into the book with vivid and graphic descriptions that have you completely lost in the plot. It is the type of book that when you finish you look around and wonder where you are and how is nobody else reacting to the bombshell that has just been dropped!!! The cover IS Kim Stone for me and the name and synopsis suited the plot perfectly.

Most heart racing, nail biting, actually stopped breathing book I've EVER read!!!! I mean how on earth do you do it Angela??? Every single book is more heart racing than the next and this has absolutely smashed it!!! This epic series is the best I have ever read. I mean nobody can beat Kim and the team!!

Angela kicks it out of the ballpark each and every single time!!! How can someone write so many epic, addictive and gritty books yet come up with unique storylines that shock the reader constantly!!! Angela is the absolute queen of crime and if you have never read any of her books then what on earth are you waiting for!!! You are seriously missing out!! The storyline is an absolute rollercoaster ride through a multi layered adventure park set in the world of horror, supernatural, medium and crime!!! There's never just one case with Angela but so much going on, not too much to get you confused but just the perfect amount to keep the pace continuous. The majority of chapters end on cliffhanger so keeps reader addicted and turning pages. Although this book is the 18th book in the epic Kim Stone series it can easily be read as a standalone. I haven't had time to read from books 7 until 14 and I cannot wait to get back to her previous books I never had any point felt I'd missed out something to do with the book. Anything that had been mentioned from previous cases were explained with just the right amount of information, not too much to bore those who have read every book and just enough so new readers know what's happened. The murders and crimes are unique and morbidly intriguing. I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails whilst feeling my heart pounding into the silly hours of the morning as this is one book that cannot be put down so clear your diaries before picking it up. It fills you with all emotions from fear to laughter, tension to shock. I was not expecting that ending at all on both cases. I was absolutely speechless and actually shouted OMG to which my partner looked at me stupid!!! I absolutely loved the fact that Angela explores psychics and mediums on this book as I have always been utterly intrigued by the art of mediumship and always enjoy going on nights out to see clairvoyants and mediums so it really was fantastic to see it brought up in a book. My heart was in my throat the whole way through from the epilogue to the very last sentence. I just could not believe what I was reading. As always the last chapter had me absolutely gobsmacked and I absolutely LOVED IT!!! Well done Angela, I'm getting harder and harder to shock but you had me hook, line and sinker!!!! I seriously NEED to see these amazing books on the big screen!!

Although this is the eighteenth book in the series I had would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

These characters have become like very close friends to me and each time I meet them it feels like I haven't been far from them for long. Kim and her fierce attitude, DCI Woodward and his stress ball, the hatred for Tracy Frost and so much more. . It isn't all crime and sadness in Angela's books though and it had me giggling on several occasions which is brilliant considering it's a crime novel. I love it when authors put some comedy in these novels as it lightens it up at times and Kim's attitude really does make me smile and laugh out loud. Angela creates fantastic team dynamics with memorable characters who work together brilliantly and perfectly. Each character is unique and has strong personalities and they just are completely unforgettable. Randomly, its always important for me to like the pathologist in any police procedurals and to click with them as much as the main police team. Their relationship with the main protagonist is also important to me as reader. In this case the pathologist is Keats and how I love the sarcasm between him and the team and his attitude. Stacey and Penn are also strong team members and I love how they work so well together and yet wind each other up constantly. Angela has brought these characters to life over this series and I have yet to meet a team and group of people I like so much. I genuinely miss them between books.

A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS ANGELA MARSONS!!! As always you have done the research and you have created what I can guarantee will be one of the best read books ever!! When are you going to bring Kim to the big screen??? I hope your busy writing cause I cannot wait to get my hands on your next success!!! Seriously what are you waiting for guys??? Stop reading this and get your copy now!!!! This is exactly why you and this series are my favourite author and series!!! You are absolutely amazing and I hope you are busy on your next success because I'm missing the gang already!!!

Overall an absolutely amazing psychological thriller of epic proportions that will keep your heart pounding all night. This is one of the best books I have ever read!!!! An absolute MUST READ!!!

Another superb chapter in the Kim Stone series which would also work as a stand alone novel.
Despite 17 previous, excellent books, Angela Marson's work remains fresh, thrilling and utterly engaging throughout.
I look forward to each of these and I am never disappointed.

Kim Stone is going to wish she could see the future in this interesting and unique murder case. There are several threads to the story, but Marsons expertly weaves them together.

It starts with the violent murder of a proclaimed psychic and pulls Kim and her team into a game of a cat and mouse. There are a few suspects and shady characters, but are any of them behind the murder? They're still not sure when there's another victim, and it almost feels like they are starting the investigation from scratch.

But the challenge still doesn't seem to be enough for Kim Stone because she and her team also look into some other cases that arise during the course of the main investigation. Of course they all end up relevant to the main plotline.

Deadly Fate is a crime thriller that haunts you should step away and beckons your return. Marsons's writing had me turning the pages quickly to discover the killer's identity, and the reveal did not disappoint.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced reading copy.

Deadly Fate is the 18th outing for DI Kim Stone and her team, and another solid mystery from an author who is somehow able to find new interesting issues to explore with each book. This time, it’s about psychics, and has the gang investigating the vicious murder of a woman in a cemetery, with a side story about a delusional stalker. As ever, I was kept in the dark about whodunnit, and was both entertained and gripped throughout. My one niggle was the behaviour of one regular character, whose actions didn’t make sense given how much they’ve gone through in previous instalments. That storyline is left open for the next book, and I look forward to finding out what happens.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC; I am posting this honest review voluntarily.
Deadly Fate is available now.

Detective Kim Stone looks at the violent crime scene of a young woman and knows that this murder was personal.
What a beginning to the newest installment in the DI Kim Stone series!
It’s alway nice to see how the team works together to investigate more then one case at a time.
I read late into the night to finish this one.
Angela Marsons writing is always solid and pulls you in from the first page to the last page.
DI Kim Stone is a favorite series of mine and one I look forward to reading each time a new book comes out.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
