Let's Just Be Friends written by Katy Turner was not my cup of tea. Usually I love dual timelines and POV's, I never had a bad experience with them, but with this book it was just so confusing, I felt like I couldn't follow along with the story with three different POV's and timelines. I feel like if it was less, I would have enjoyed this book more. I decided to put this book on hold for a little bit and come back to it, maybe it wouldn't be such a challenge to get through, but I was definitely wrong, it felt like such a challenge coming back to it. I applaud the character for taking a vacation when she needed one, but she was just too damn whiny for my liking. The only two things I liked about this book was the beautiful cover, and the Scottish countryside setting. Katy Turner definitely made me want to pack my bags and take a trip to the beautiful Scottish countryside. Looks can be deceiving, the cover says this book is "a feel good romance", but the characters just wanted to be friends, hint hint the title. Despite this book not being for me, don't let this review stop you, you might have better luck than I did, but I think i'm in the minority for this one.

THANK YOU TO NETGALLEY AND JOFFE BOOKS FOR AN ARC OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW!!!!!!!!

Holly Anderson is a cheerful and confident veterinarian, who knows what she wants, and where she sees herself in five years. Holly definitely doesn't do flings, and falling in love is NOT in her five year plan. I definitely held out hope for Holly, she mentioned how much she wanted to grow and be a better person, but all she did was whine and never bettered herself. Whiny women characters are just not a hit for me. Moving her entire life out of London was definitely not a part of Holly's five year plan, either. Holly decides to move to the tiny Scottish town of Eastercraig, to a run down, gorgeous seaside home. Holly has barely just arrived when tipsy Greg Dunbar just let's himself into Holly's cottage in the middle of the night. HELLO, DOESN'T HE KNOCK? DOESN'T HOLLY LOCK HER DOORS? Like, i'm sorry, but these characters didn't have any common sense whatsoever. Greg is only back in Eastercraig to discuss the future of the family farm with his stubborn brother. When Greg stumbles into Holly's cottage, drunk as a bat, he has no clue that Holly has moved in. But he still should have knocked on the door, right?

Greg and Holly both know neither of them wants romance, so they should just remain friends, right? Sometimes this book made absolutely no sense to me. Holly knew she wasn't looking for romance and she knows she doesn't do flings, so why was she doing it anyway? I have no clue, maybe i'm just over thinking too much of this book, but it just made zero sense to me. Like, if you knew you didn't want something, why wouldn't you stick to your gut instinct? Another thing I loved about this book was Holly's career as a veterinarian, I absolutely LOVE animals, so I thought that part was really sweet. Don't forget, these characters are adults, and they are acting like seventeen year old's. At times it felt like the love triangle trope was coming into play, which is not my thing in books. I don't want to persuade anyone not to read this book based on my review, but I definitely think i'm in the minority of not liking this book more than I had hoped. If you are an adult, and you are acting childish and whiny all the time, it's just not cute to me, it just annoyed me how the author portrayed the characters to act.

This was a fun and entertaining book. Even though the plot was best described as "okay", and I felt the characters left things to be desired, I really believe Turner pulled off the small Scottish town vibes in the setting and I almost packed my bags to travel there and get to know that scenery. It sounds absolutely idyllic. I did find there to be too many POVs for my liking, and I found myself confused at times and needed to flip back a little bit to make sure I knew whos POV I was reading from. I would recommend though, especially if you like friends to lovers, small town, Scottish vibes and animals, because animals always steal the show for me. The confusing POVs wouldn't stop me from reading this again.

3.5 rounded up.

This was a cute, first time read for me by this author. Holly is a vet and is very career focused. Unfortunately, so much so that she finds herself spending some time in a small village in the Sottish Highlands. On her first night there, she meets Greg when he let's himself in at night in the cottage she is staying at. It doesn't take long before she finds herself enjoying the slower pace of the town, and the new friends that she has made. But as much as she enjoys spending time with Greg, they will only ever be friends. Or will they?
I enjoyed seeing the story unfold and watching Holly grow with the new experiences and circumstances. All the characters were well-developed and lovely and it was easy to fall in love with them. It was a fun and entertaining read and I enjoyed it very much!
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

LET'S JUST BE FRIENDS by Katy Turner is a quirky rom com. The novel starts as many rom coms do— the protagonist is about to get her dream job, and suddenly she doesn’t. This novel takes a new veterinarian to a part of England she never expected, and to a possible life she never expected. I really enjoyed the setting and the quirky characters. This is a fun summer/weekend read. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy of Let's Just Be Friends. This was cute and sweet and kinda like alot of other romance novels. There is kind of a set plot line romance books follow but they are still enjoyable

Thank you very much for giving me the chance to read this book!

This book was described as "the perfect feel-good romance" and as a romantic comedy.

I very much do not think that it is.

I cannot really decide if this is more chick lit of women's fiction, but to me it is not a romance / romantic comedy.
Probably more women's fiction because there was lots of drama to wade through. Which is fine at time, but not when you are wanting a cosy romance set in a tiny village in Scotland.

I was fully ready to see Holly fall in love with a rugged, sexy Scotsman, and I was squeeing when said Scot Greg called Holly a "Sassenach". IYKYK.

But very soon in the story we got introduced to Chloe, Paolo, Angus, and many others, who sometimes had chapters from their point of view, which made things a bit confusing to me, and took away my enjoyment of this read.

I mean, it was nice, but it was not what I expected. And going on the blurb, I was unfortunately disappointed in what I was promised versus what I was given. It was OK, so 2 stars.

This is an easy read book with the right amount of romance and small town country feels.
Holly moves to a seaside village in Scotland, primarily for a job with the local vet. Holly is made to feel welcome by the locals, she enjoys being involved in the community and works hard to achieve her goals.
The storyline flows well, trying to convince each character of their worth and abilities. The characters are all relatable and likeable in their own way.
I loved the storyline with the challenges and character interactions, finding love is different for all of them!

Thanks to Joffe Books, NetGalley and Katy Turner for the opportunity to read this book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to receive this book for a honest review.

This was a good summer read. I've been reading so much mystery books that this one was something to make me feel good.

Holly finds herself in a small seaside town where she adjusts very well and makes friends quickly.
Its nice to see how she builds the friendships and how they grow throught the entire book.

I would highly recommend this one and look forward to reading others by Katy Turner.

Went into thinking it’s a romantic/ comedy.
It’s not a book for me.

It was more dramatic than I would have liked. Much more under the genre of women’s fiction.

An enjoyable, witty romp through the Scottish highlands with all of our favorite romance tropes: small town romance, will-they-won't-they, a woman with a five year plan, an unlikely romance, and right person-wrong time. This is the ideal book for readers who want a chill, feel-good romantic standalone. Holly's adventure is an idyllic escape from the real world, yet her intense veterinary job doesn't render the story boring or cliché. You can totally trust that when she's narrating her life she's giving you the inside scoop - the kind that makes you feel like you're reading your best friend's texts and not an actual book. This book gave me major Nancy Myers' "The Holiday" vibes (like honestly I'm convinced that Holly and Amanda Woods are the same person just different fonts!)

2.5/5

While this book had a lot of potential, overall it left something to be desired. While categorized as New Adult, it somewhat missed the mark in the jargon throughout the book. It felt more for a younger audience were it not for the pub times.

While cute, some parts were confusing and downright boring. I didn’t really laugh much but some parts were cute.

I think I would have liked the characters falling in love and wanting to be together rather than liking each other and worrying about it.

Thanks to NetGalley and Joffe Books for the ARC.

I did very much enjoy this and devoured it pretty quickly. It was a nice change to follow three characters’ romantic storylines, and I loved the Scottish Highlands setting.

I actually loved Chloe and Angus’s story and could quite happily have read this as a separate book!

Gutted there wasn’t an epilogue as I just wanted more!

What to expect:

-small town romance
-chemistry but no spice
-slow burn
-some LGBTQ romance

Holly and Greg meet in the small Scottish town where she is only supposed to be for a year, but has she found where she belongs in life? A great read - the setting sounds amazing.

Holly has a plan. Work hard, get a job at a vet clinic in Ascot and be financially secure and independent. This does not include having any sort of flings, one night stands or boyfriends of any description. When the job in Ascot falls through and she is sent to a clinic in rural Scotland, Holly does not count on meddling co-workers, who also have love worries of their own. Then in breaks Greg Dunbar. Literally.

Greg has been known as the man about town for years. Ever since he supposedly left his fiancé at the altar. His brother, Angus, has been running the family farm since their dad died and now a feud has erupted between the two. Greg 'breaks' into Holli's newly rented house. Thanks to a set of keys lent to him by the owner. But while they both decide to be just friends, it is clear they both want more.

Will Holli get to the bottom of the truth about the Dunbar feud? Will Greg disclose his womanising ways to Holli? What about Chloie and Paulo's love lives? Will they get the happily ever after that they deserve as well? Finally, what about Hugh, the surgery and the job at Ascot?

This was a sweet story. Just a lovely romance with all the feelings. No heavy angst but you got three love stories for the price of one! I loved how they were all challenged differently to be able to accept love. I also loved the Scottish setting and the veterinary aspects. Not my normal style of read as there was no spice, just kisses, but I loved it all the same. The audiobook added another level with wonderful accents.

Big thanks to Netgalley, Joffe Books, Dreamscape media and Katy Turner for this book and audiobook ARC.

This was a cute fast romcom read for me. It was not the best book I've read this year but I really enjoyed getting stuck into the story.

The perfect summer read, Let's Just Be Friends is a light-hearted, quick read, full of loveable characters.

I loved Holly's commitment to her job. Her character is fun and active with her hobby of running and paddle boarding.
Greg - Holly's love intersest - is a farm boy turned law accountant and has the same motivation and motivation as her. And he sounds 🔥

The banter and friendships throughout are heart-warming.
I loved how it's written in multiple points of view so you don't just get the main story. The side characters also get their own story. It also helps flesh out the characters' backstory.
I think I may have been routing for Chloe and Angus more than Holly and Greg.

I really enjoyed this book, a sweet romance with a dash of of suspense. However, I would have preferred a more fleshed out ending. (But obviously, that's just personal preference)
I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Let's Just Be Friends is Katy Turner's debut romance novel. It's such a sweet read and I'm convinced Scotland is my favorite setting for a good romance. I absolutely loved the side characters in this book and thought they really rounded out the overall story making it not only a great romance, but a heartwarming story of found family. Toss in a few Highland Coo and a snack-loving harbor seal and this sweet book quickly won my heart.

You will love this if you enjoy:
Small Town Romance
Animals
Rural Scotland
Highland Cows
Running

"Right person, wrong time? Or better off as friends? Holly Anderson needs to decide.
Cheerful and confident veterinarian Holly doesn't do flings. Falling in love is not in her five-year plan.
Moving her entire life out of London to a fishing village in the Scottish Highlands is definitely not part of her plan.

But then Holly's life is turned upside down. She finds herself in tiny Eastercraig, where a run-down surgery, a gorgeous seaside home and two immediate new friends await.

She has barely arrived when a tipsy Greg Dunbar lets himself into her cottage in the middle of the night.
Greg is only back in Eastercraig to discuss the future of the family farm with his stubborn brother. He doesn't know that Holly has moved in..."

Multi POV, but a slight abrupt in transitioning, This wasn't really for me at the moment. I am a vibe reader and....
I went in thinking this was gonna be a fun romcom, spoiler: it is not.
This is a drama filled women's fiction, which I enjoy, but was not feeling or expecting.

Thank you Netgalley and Katy Turner for the advanced copy in return for an honest review via eARC. 3/5 rating rounded down
