Sophie loves spreadsheets and uses them to organize everything in her life from her calendar, her diet (it’s paleo this week!) and even has a spreadsheet where she rates all the men she’s dated based on different categories and what she’s looking for in a mate. She doesn’t want to waste her time with men that are clearly not 10s. She agrees to go on a date with Michael, her Zumba instructor’s brother in law. They get off on the wrong foot when he turns up late and in a crumpled suit. It’s a disastrous first date and Sophie writes him off and rates him a 2.5 out of 10 on her spreadsheet. The next morning, her roommate Ava asks for details and Sophie sends her the spreadsheet. Unfortunately, she also sends it to ALL of her phone contacts, including her date, Michael. Sophie has a lot of apologizing to do to Michael. Michael sets out to prove to Sophie that her spreadsheet can’t predict compatibility and they agree to 10 dates in order to prove or disprove Sophie’s approach to finding a mate.
I’ve read quite a few of Katherine Freeman’s books and this was by far my favorite. It had the right amount of banter and character development. You found yourself really rooting for Michael. Great read.

I found Sophie's neurotic tendencies to rate guys annoying. While I thought she might be a relatable character, sadly I just found her too irritating to like. Unfortunately I DNF'd the book.

I usually enjoy Kathryn Freeman stories but this one, although it’s light and entertaining, was not for me. The plot seemed great and I really enjoyed the begining, it was a bit of fresh air. But then the story focus too much for my taste in their personal lifes and the time they spend together is a bit strange. I must confess that I don’t usually enjoy stories where a little town and their people steal the book and I think that happens here. The granny, her love interest, cricket games… Too much for me.
But this is only my opinion, you must read it! Kathryn Freeman is always great.

I knew I was going to enjoy Was it Good For You because One More Chapter never disappoint with their books.
Our main character Sophie is a typical type 1 person – she loves order and has a spreadsheet that keeps her busy life scheduled and on track.
She’s mourning the loss of her twin sister Rosie and has a difficult relationship with her family.
Sophie tries to live life to the full cramming her days with activities, dates and nights out with friends.
When Sophie asked her boyfriend of 2 years to move in with her, she was shocked when his response was “I just don’t see you that way”.
So she dips her toes into the dating world.
Because she doesn’t want to waste time and knows what she is looking for she adds her dates to her trusty spreadsheet to track the progress of the dates so she knows when to cut her losses and move on.
Michael got his heart ripped out when his girlfriend cheated on him with his best friend and told him it was because he was “too steady and she needed some excitement” – ouch!
So when they’re set up on a blind date by Michael’s sister-in -law, the date doesn’t go very well and Sophie scores him a mere 2.5/10.
And then Sophie accidentally shares the spreadsheet with all her contacts instead of her friend Ava.
Sophie is desperate to apologise to the men she’s dated and rated in the spreadsheet, especially Michael.
After meeting up to apologise Sophie agrees to go on 10 more dates with Michael to give him a fairer chance to up his score and to check whether the spreadsheet actually works!
Of course the more time they spend more time together, Sophie starts to realise there’s so much more to life than can be shown on a spreadsheet and starts to make positive changes in her life.
I think Sophie and Michael are good for each other – yin and yang balancing each other out.

The last 1/3 of the book gets a little spicy, and there was lots of rom-com moments as well.
I loved how much they learned about themselves through the other person and the supporting characters were great too – Betty is a legend.

Rating your dates for compatability, looks, sense of humor, timing, and using the average of the scores attained to decide if another date is worth your time. Sound callous? Clinical? Maybe not as much in today's world as it would have a few years back, what with all the dating apps and what-not, but it certainly takes the heart out of the equation...

The logic behind her "crime" (word to the wise, don't send texts/emails in a hurry... especially with attachments!) totally makes sense! I mean, who wants to put all their effort into a relationship that's just not going to go anywhere? Especially in today's go go go world? But, then again, relationships aren't just based on cold hard facts because if they were, there would be no truth to the "love is blind" adage of old. There's something that doesn't factor into equations, and formulas, and that's a realization that hits hard after a few of the agreed to dates between these two, where the sparks can be felt, but not measured...at least outwardly. Seeing them grow together, fall apart, and (*spoiler, but not really*) make their way towards being together again was heartwarming. Watching the realization dawn on them both about the pros and cons of a spreadsheet organzied life was both cringe worthy and laugh out loud. Enjoying the HEA was all it was meant to be and more.

A great add to your end of summer reading list, or anytime you need a pick me up with a little laughter and a little love!

This was one of my top romance reads of the year. I love enemies-to-lovers vibes and this was done so well. I could really understand why the characters made some of the decisions they did even if I couldn't quite get behind them on a lot of them.

I really enjoyed this book! Both lead characters felt very well-rounded, with pasts and personalities that meant you could see why they made the decisions they made, and the slowly building chemistry and affection between them was really well done. Michael in particular was such a lovely character, I adored everything about him, but I really related to Sophie and her (admittedly flawed) reasoning behind creating the spreadsheet felt very realistic.

Unfortunately this was a DNF for me at around 30% in I gave up as I found the FMC extremely unlikeable, for so many reasons. The overall storyline, setting & characters were also just plain boring in my opinion. Genuinely surprised & confused at all the 4 & 5 star reviews saying it was enjoyable & funny….? Obviously just not for me. 2 stars

read this book earlier this year when i was in a huuge reading slump and absolutely devoured it. grumpy x sunshine? sign me up. miscommunication angst? hate it but love it at the same time. he falls first? how can i inject this into my system.

Sophie organises her life via an Excel spreadsheet. Meals, hobbies, finances etc, she even has a love life tab. But can you really quantify love in that way? Sophie believes it's a failsafe method of ensuring compatibility and after being burned in the past, she's determined to stick with it. Anything less than a 7 is a deal-breaker.

So when she's set up with Ash and their date is less than ideal, the numbers don't lie. Scoring only a 2.5 she discounts him. The only problem is, she accidentally sends her spreadsheet to all her contacts instead of her best friend and feeling awful she apologises in person. And agrees to go on ten dates in order for Ash to prove her system wrong.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet and romantic book but I found it a little laboured at times and a personal bugbear of mine is miscommunication or non-communication and there was plenty of that which stressed me out. I think it might be because I'm autistic but when couples keep denying their feelings it makes me feel very anxious.

Other than that I thought this was a romantic, funny and warm story of healing and happiness.

A charming and unique story that was a great escape read. I loved the characters.

This romcom is up to Kathryn Freeman's usual high standard with a great pair of central protagonists whose chemistry is off the scale. Sophie's dating history has ended with her deciding to apply her love of spreadsheets to her quest for love. Her list of required behaviours by a future partner leads her to dismiss people out of hand. It takes time for her to realise the shortcomings of this approach.


Michael is an interesting character who has a kind and caring side. He also has the pressure of his job and a suspicion about his ability to meet someone genuine and loving. There are some amusing moments as Michael and Sophie adapt to each other. Their friends and family add colour to the story, especially Micheal's grandmother who has a keen eye where her grandson is concerned. Learning not to take things at face value and to go past a bad first impressions are lessons which Sophie has to learn. I loved this read and found it to be a real page turner.

In short: First impressions can be deceptive...

Reading Kathryn Freeman books always put a smile on my face and Was It Good For You? is no exception. It's a sweet, funny and heartwarming romcom that has you rooting for the underdog, who in this case is a man who is perfect for Sophie if only she would look at him instead of at her spreadsheet.

I love spreadsheets! Possibly not as much as Sophie though. Sophie keeps track of her whole life on Excel and even scores her dates so she doesn't waste any time on the wrong man. It seems very clinical and emotionless to score a person based on a first date, although I can see the benefit of it as time is so precious.

Sophie thought her spreadsheet could never be wrong until she met Michael, who accidentally finds out his score and wants to show Sophie that there are more things to consider than the parameters she had scored him against. Although first impressions do count for a lot, it's actually quite sobering to see what happens when you scratch beneath the surface and find out more about a person.

It's so sweet watching Sophie and Michael's relationship grow and I raced through the chapters as I couldn't wait to see what their next date would be and what would happen after the ten dates. I loved the characters (both human and canine) and I loved the storyline - I loved everything about this fabulous romcom.

Fun, heartwarming and sweet, Was It Good For You? is a delightful novel. I'm always in my happy place when there's a Kathryn Freeman book on my kindle and I loved this one.

Sophie’s life is governed by her spreadsheets, her life is so full on that she needs these to feel in control., even to the point of scoring her dates. Disaster occurs when her spreadsheets are sent to all in her contacts and she has to delete the email document and do damage control. Hence the reason for dating Michael as she allows him to up his date score. Very well written story with Sophie learning so much about herself and growing to forgive herself as love develops, and Michael proves himself to be her perfect partner.

Another great book from this author. This book got me out of a reading slump, it was a wonderful read.

I really loved Michael and warmed up to Sophie by the end.

I love Kathryn Freeman books for a bit of lighthearted romantic comedy. This one was enjoyable but perhaps not my favourite of hers. The concept was a little far fetched and I didn’t find myself warming to Sophie as a character. Regardless it was an easy read.

When you need that pick me up, Kathryn will always deliver. I loved the easy going sweet romcom of this one. It was the perfect pallet cleaner

Kathryn Freeman does it again. She knows how to write the perfect romcom. You fall in to the story so hard you forget the real world around you and want nothing but the best for the main characters. Sophie is a character that frustrates the living daylights out of you but you also love to pieces. Super clever and well worth the read!

As a fan of spreadsheets I was rather interested to see just how much of Sophie's life she has on spreadsheet.

Unlike Sophie though I'd never try and use on for my love life, and certainly would never send the entire file to everyone in my contacts.

Even more especially not to the man, Michael she had just been on a bad blind date with, and only rated a 2.5 /10.

Michael in the aftermath challenges Sophie to trial the spreadsheet over the course of 10 dates with him to see if it really is reliable or not.

Definitely a bit of a slow burner but wow, once you get to know Michael especially, you can't help but fall for him. He's wonderful,

But whether Sophie;s head or heart will win out is another matter.

This was a highly enjoyable story that will have you laughing, but possibly also tearing up at one point. It's well written, and definitely has all the Kathryn Freeman's trademark humour and wonderful sexual chemistry.

A truly entertaining tale.
