I admit to being a lifelong Karin Slaughter fan, so I will always read her work. That said, I thought this one was just okay. I think it was a bit convoluted and about a quarter too long. Recommended by those who follow the Will Trent series, but be warned that this one was more Sara Linton than WIll.

After That Night starts with Sara trying to save a young woman who was raped. The story also goes back to Sara's early resident days when she was sexually assaulted. Sara and Will go back to her friend group from 15 years ago to solve a mystery.

Excellent narration by Kathleen Early.

Wow, another banger book by Karin Slaughter! She is so descriptive and the character development is amazing. It’s a page turning thriller at the top of her game!

This was my first Will Trent novel so I didn’t know what to expect. I’m hooked, I’m a sucker now. I want to go back and read them all to see how all these characters got to this point! This was such a great read, quick and addicting. You wanted justice and you wanted to make sure justice was going to be had! This story was complex from grieving the lives that could have been, to appreciating the life you have in the face of your past. It was gripping and I couldn’t recommend it more! Soo good!

Karin Slaughter strikes again! I couldn't put this book down. Her novels are brutally honest portrayals of the way women are treated in our society and this one is particularly powerful because of who the ultimate perpetrator was. I am thankful for the return of Will and Sara and looking forward to the next installment.

Thank you Netgalley, Harper Collins Canada and Karin Slaughter.
I have enjoyed all the books I have read from Karin Slaughter,
They are dark, nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat reads.
The Will Trent series is dark, scary, and some scenes I remember to this day and will never forget.
Thank you Karin Slaughter, this next chapter in the series did not disappoint.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book. Karin Slaughter has done it again with this 11th Will Trent and Sara Linton book. Brilliantly plotted, from the prologue to the conclusion, it's fast-paced, heartbreaking, edge of your seat reading.

*May be triggering. Contains graphic descriptions of sexual assault

After That Night by Karin Slaughter

My rating:
4.5/5
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

This story follows along Sara, a pediatrician and medical examiner, and Faith and Will who are both detectives. The three of them have to work together to solve a case that is somehow tied to other cases in the past, that we’re not linked until now.

This was my third Karin Slaughter book and man, she is just a great author! She does not miss. As always, she is quite a graphic writer so there are some triggers in this one. Look them up before you read it!

I really enjoyed this story and it kept me interested until the end. I will say, it was a little long for what it was, but super good! I think that’s the only thing I have to say for why I didn’t give it a solid 5. While this was a straight forward thriller, I was not expecting the end!

Definitely give this one a read! This is apart of the Will Trent series but can be read as a standalone. I hadn’t read any others in the series and I understood everything just fine!

Thanks netgalley and William Morrow for the ARC!

Fifteen years after pediatrician/medical examiner Dr. Sara Linton's husband is murdered, she's in a romantic relationship with Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and works in the ER of Atlanta's Grady Hospital.

As the thriller opens, a young woman is brought into the ER. She has been brutally attacked and raped, in a manner similar to the vicious assault on Sara many years before. Investigation leads to a wealthy and powerful family.

More victims are revealed. Faith and Will help Sara investigate, under the radar, and an undercover sting uncovers the truth.

This book is an intensely unsettling and fantastic addition to Karin Slaughter’s series featuring GBI Special Agent Will Trent and medical examiner Dr. Sara Linton, set in Atlanta and eerily mirroring contemporary real-life horrors.

The story begins with the tragic death of Dani Cooper, who succumbed to brutal injuries after revealing she had been raped. Sara is unwavering in her determination to seek justice for Dani. However, this proves to be an arduous task, as three years later, she finds herself testifying at the civil trial of the alleged rapist, Tommy McAllister. The entire case hinges on her testimony. In the midst of this anguish, Sara uncovers disturbing links between Dani’s ordeal and a harrowing sexual assault she endured 15 years ago, leaving her unable to have children. Moreover, it becomes evident that they were not the only victims.

This is an amazing series and Karin Slaughter outdoes herself with each new book in the series. Highly recoomend!

This novel is just the latest from my favorite authors I am always bragging about, Karin Slaughter. I love how she develops her characters, and you know who they are from the beginning. I am so invested in the lives of Will and Sarah. Karin, we are on a first name basis at this point, Karin has taken two people who are in a novel and made them people with cry with (ugly cry), laugh with, feel on the edge of our seats, and are spent when you are finished. Even though you want more! She takes two people on a piece of paper and make them part of our lives. That is magical. This book is more of that magic sprinkled as you read. I feel this is the reason Will Trent, the show, has been such a huge success, People are finally seeing what we have known for years!

I loved this book, and was invested as Sarah is confronted with trauma from her past. Someone comes into the ER with injuries the same as she was part of while working in Atlanta. She moved to a small town, fell in love, and is now back in Atlanta. I cannot tell you how it will work out, because I do not want to spoil it for you.. Just know you will never regret picking this one up. As someone I saw said, "Just take my money now."

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is very dark. I regularly read mysteries and thrillers, but the details of repeated rape in this book was just too much for me. I finished it and thought it was a good storyline and liked the mystery, just too dark for me.

AFTER THAT NIGHT is an intense, dark, and deeply affecting story. Slaughter has a true gift for showing her readers all sides of a situation. She delves into the grit and underbelly of society while still allowing hope and moments of happiness to permeate the narrative.

For the eleventh time, I have entered back into the world of Will Trent and the GBI. Each time, I learn more about the characters as they tackle their latest investigation. This time around, it was personal. They were dealing with Sara’s past and trying to find a link between her case and two others.

It must be said that there are topics and incidents within this book that will make a reader uncomfortable and possibly could trigger some. Any time a writer deals with sexual assault, I ask myself why am I reading it. Many times, I stop reading. It can be too much or not feel right. However, for the authors that give the victims justice and a voice, I continue as I did with this one. The way Slaughter deals with the crimes committed is done with brutal honesty as well as reverence. There is a respect for the victims that comes through. For this, I applaud the author.

AFTER THAT NIGHT was an all-consuming read for me. The way the author unraveled the mystery and allowed the investigation to progress kept me on the edge of my seat. Slaughter continues to prove why she is simply the best at merging suspense, heart, and witty quips thrown in on the side.

Thank you to NetGalley, Karin Slaughter and William Morrow for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.

This woman is just full of twisted plots and despicable characters but with all of that, you have the best series with the most interesting main characters. I’m always here for Slaughters writing and I look forward to the next Trent novel!

Somehow I had never read one of Karin Slaughter's Will Trent books. What a mistake! The characters are so appealing and the plot is beautifully constructed. Here, the thrills keep coming! I was worried for everyone and raced through to the end.

Look, it's Karin Slaughter, she's amazing she can do no wrong! I love her books, I will always love her books, and this is just another fantastically chilling, disturbing and amazing thriller!

Very highly recommended -- and it's obviously got a built-in base of fans with even more appearing after the TV show. Good! Karin Slaughter is a true treasure and I have never read a book from her where I wasn't surprised, and chilled in equal measure and After That Night is no exception

I love Karin Slaughter, and the Will Trent series has been a particular favorite. That said, I was disappointed in AFTER THAT NIGHT. The focus of the entire story was rape: The rape of Sara years back, women showing up in emergency rooms who have been raped and in some cases die. The gory details of sexual assault were repeated ad infinitum. And perhaps my biggest disappointment was the shoving of Will Trent to a corner of the story. He doesn't seem to act; we only see him reacting. He's a good character and deserves a better story than this.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book as an ARC.
I really enjoy Slaughter’s writing style, and I really enjoy the flawed and interesting characters in the Will Trent series. This one didn’t disappoint. While the crimes in the Trent novels are never easy to read about, the antagonists are so vile you can’t wait for them to get their comeuppance.
This one was particularly twisted and kept me guessing until the end.
But Karin Slaughter doesn’t just write a thrilling plot, she infuses her stories with facts about crime, or views on sad realities of our society that lets you know she’s researched her novels.
“Sara knew that the passage of time hadn’t changed that much. Everyone called it he said/she said, as if a woman’s word carried the same weight as a man’s.”
“Fewer than 1 perfect of rapes led to a felony conviction.”

I have read many of the Trent novels, but not in the right order. This one made me want to go back and reread them all in chronological order, so I could see the characters grow and their relationships develop. I especially like Faith.
