My first impressions of this book were confusion, not at the puzzles held within, but the ebook copy! I downloaded the ebook copy and was scrolling through the pages trying to find the first puzzle, however in a few clicks I was at 50%. I found that strange, but some books do have a lot of pictures. I kept scrolling and ended up right at the end of the book! I understand this is a formatting issue, but why had this not been checked earlier?
After downloading the PDF version, I then received access the the 113 puzzles. They reminded me of the GCSE questions you used to despise and think, why on Earth do I ever need to know how many seconds it would take for a cat to jump to the top of a tree? However, some of them hook you and you begin to search for the answer. 113 puzzles, if you like mathmatics, you'll enjoy the book.
This reminds me of the Penny Press magazines I used to buy way back when. Very useful for keeping the brain sharp after a mind-numbing day.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a temporary digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
Mathematical Puzzles and Pastimes : 113 Puzzles! is a very traditional old school book full of a variety of puzzles set to challenge the grey matter. The layout is quite plain and basic so it will probably be aimed more at interested adults than children or the younger generation. Some interesting puzzles to work your way through, some harder than others. All answers are included. A bit of a workout for the brain.
