The Girls in the Cabin by Caleb Stephens tells the story of Chris and his daughters Kayla and Emma who are on their first vacation since their wife/mother passed away six months ago. Chris is taking the girls on a trip that his wife always wanted to take but that he said he was too busy to go on. Now he has a chance to spend this time with his girls in hopes of reconnecting with them and righting the wrong he had done in the past. But fifteen year old Kayla is still very angry with him and Emma runs off into the woods. As they chase after Emma, who has fallen and broken her ankle, they get mixed up and lost in the woods. With a snowstorm rolling in, they must find shelter or die in the woods. Thankfully they come across a farmhouse, owned by Clara and her son Billy. Clara offers them a place to rest and wait out the storm and she takes care of Emma's ankle until they can get to the doctor. But the phone lines are down. And the roads are blocked. And maybe Clara isn't what she seems.

This book was creepy and haunting. I really enjoyed it from the first page. I have read a couple of atmospheric, survivalist, locked room (or trapped by weather) tropes lately and I think they're great. This one was done so well. It was a fast paced read with some great twists throughout, making you feel creeped out and that you know things are dangerous.

This one was A LOT. I didn’t see the twist coming but it tied it all up in a perfect way! I do believe the gore was just a little too much at the end but all in all, I enjoyed this fast paced thriller.

Heart stopping! I couldn't stop reading til the end. The whole book was a parent's worst nightmare and just when you thought things couldn't get worse, they did. Fantastic writing, I really enjoyed this book.

This story was just terrifying! As a parent it gave me so much anxiety where I felt Chris's fear on a personal level.

I loved the ominous atmosphere, the cabin in the woods, the storm, the build up arghh it was just a perfect spooky season read.

Imagine a stranger taking you in and you believe that you're safe and this stranger genuinely wants to help you, for them to then turn out not to be as they seem, imagine how terrifying that would be especially when you have your child with you.

I highly recommend this one, if you're a parent I'm sure you'll feel the same anxiety that I did the book connects with you on a personal level.

What a great story, I was totally engrossed & kept me on the edge of my seat through out the whole book. I couldn't stop reading as I needed to know how it was all going to end!

The Girls in the Cabin is a dark, addictive, popcorn thriller! I was hooked from the start and couldn't put it down. Told through both multiple POVs and dual timelines, the story is layered bit by bit building suspense throughout. Even though I did guess what was going on/the twist, it didn't take away from my enjoyment and I recommend this for any thriller fan!

This book was brilliant. It had everything I wanted and more. I loved the characters and connected with them . Loved the Colorado setting of this book.

Chris takes his daughters on a last-ditch effort camping trip to try to keep their family together. His wife passed away recently and not only are his daughters distraught (one hasn't spoken a word to anyone), one of his daughters knows Chris' awful secret.

Emma runs off. When Chris and his other daughter Kayla find her, her ankle is broken and stuck under a boulder.
To make matters worse, a blizzard has started. After a horrible night outside, they find a farm. Luckily the woman who lives there is home and allows them refuge. The phone lines are down and the roads are blocked, though, and the woman has her own secrets, which slowly come to light as the story rolls on.

I really enjoyed this book. It kept me on my toes from the first chapter and really kept me guessing right until the end. There were a few twists that I didn't see coming. I really liked the characters and how they were developed, especially Chris. The way the farm and surrounds were described definitely packed a creepy punch. I also enjoyed how the story went back and forth between the woman growing up and the events of the present.

When Chris finds his daughter with her leg trapped under a rock he realizes that they are now lost and a snow storm is closing in. Searching for help he finds a cabin to keep his daughters warm and safe, but things aren't always as they seem.
This book takes place in my favorite place to visit, the Colorado mountains. It follows several POV's through dual timelines. As we learn more about Chris and his daughters survival in the current timeline, we then flashback to the past of that cabin in the woods and the terror that lives there. The past timeline does such an amazing job building the terror that lies ahead for Chris and his daughters. We see the darkness in the past but told in small glimpses of just how deep the darkness goes. My imagination ran wild trying to put all the pieces together as the two timelines slowly merge revealing the whole picture.
This book is dark, making it perfect for spooky season. It is so well written in the way that it slowly builds the dual timelines and pending doom while keeping the reader fully invested throughout. I did not guess the twist, but once it was revealed I saw all the clues along the way. Whether you enjoy the super scary or just a little scary, I think this book is for everyone - well done.

I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.

A great little thriller that will keep the reader guessing throughout.
Highly enjoyable from start to finish as the truth about the events slowly come to light.
It will keep the reader hooked until the last page.

I could practically feel the tension in the air as I dove into this suspenseful journey, my heart racing with every creak and every unexpected revelation. Absolutely gobbled this up!!

The Girls in the Cabin is a terrifying psychological thriller set against the stunning yet deadly backdrop of The Flat Top mountains in Colorado, an area completely surrounded by the remote wilderness of two National Forests which creates a palpable sense of tension throughout as it's claustrophobic and remote. It follows the recently widowed Chris McKenna who has been left to bring up his daughters 15-year-old Kayla and 7-year-old Emma on his own after his wife Lexi passed away from breast cancer.

Naturally, this is a struggle for any single parent and it culminates in issues that affect the familial relationships so much that it prompts Chris to take his girls into the vast countryside for a bonding session to hopefully mend some broken bridges. But not all goes to plan. A compelling and twisty thriller with great character development, detailed descriptions of the scenic surroundings and a gradual build-up of suspense and tension that rises and falls in all the right parts.

Chris and his daughters are stranded and hurt while camping and need to find help - they come across a house in the mountains where they are struggling. They are grieving for their mum and Chris was desperately trying to create memories for his family. But they were stranded and hurt in the middle of nowhere, in a huge snow storm, with no phone signal and nobody in sight. This was the PERFECT thriller setting, it was so creepy and atmospheric. And I feel like it just adds an extra thrilling element when this is the environment the characters are in. From the beginning I was so intrigued as to what was happening/going to happen - it was so fast paced that you just fly through the book, it's so hard to put down.
And the plot twist is one of my all time favourite thriller plot twists so I absolutley loved it, and I didn't really anticipate it either. There is just suspense on every page. It was incredible.
One thing I will say, is that the very ending, the last two chapters, seemed a little rushed? I'm not sure whether that was just me but i just felt they were slightly rushed.

This was a very fast paced thriller about a father and his two daughters getting caught up between a rock and a hard place. This novel was about family, what we do for them, and when the very idea of love and family gets twisted, what it makes a person become.

This was a direct descent into a human’s psyche and how our experiences shape us through the years, and it hooked me from page one. The beginning was slower compared to the second half of the book but it sets up a great basis for the rest of the story so you never feel bored.

Highly recommend this one if you like fast paced psychological thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat.

This edgy intricately plotted psychological thriller establishes a smart and sophisticated storytelling freighted with real suspense! I was shocked and my brain won't be healed for a long time, if you're a fan of psychological thrillers this is a must-read!

This book had a great ending and was a bit of a slow beginning burn. Not to many misleads which again is a nice touch. Definitely going to look for more from this author.

This book started off a bit slow for me, it did however start to pick up considerably towards the end! Very fast paced.

It wasn’t super twisty which I really like in a book. I did guess the “twist” about halfway through if not sooner. I was expecting more twists. It was definitely a thriller though!

This was an ok read for me, it did have its good points and it had its not so believable points that made it hard to picture and imagine.

Lots of graphic details that I could have done without. The story had great potential so I did stick with it despite the gore but the jumping of timelines on this occasion didn’t work and the part in the 1980’s never read as that period.

This book had everything from tension, mystery, suspense, horror, chilling details of murder, secrets, & more. I enjoyed this book so much! The storytelling was so captivating and creepy that I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. This was my first book by Caleb Stephens and now I'm a fan and can't wait to read more of his books. I highly recommend this book to all mystery/thriller and horror readers!
