Just what I like in a book, suspense, isolation, fast paced, makes me appreciate going to bed early so I can read my book. So much better than watching the TV.
Thank you Net Galley & Caleb Stevens for this page turner

I love a good isolation/survival trope claustrophobic vibe, and this one delivered! It had me gripped, and I had to know what was going to happen next.

I thought this was a great thriller with a great twist at the end that had me shook!

When Clara was a girl, her parents were abusive and locked her up in the dark place to teach her to behave. One day a friend rescues her and changes everything. Years later, Chris and his daughters go backpacking in Colorado and after an accident with Emma, stumble upon Clara’s cabin in the woods. They thought they found help but will they ever escape? This thriller had me up late on the edge of my seat. Twists galore and an ending full of surprises. Warning- mentions of child sexual abuse, animal abuse, graphic violence, mention of suicidal ideation. Thank you NetGalley for the electronic copy!

The first thing I must say and have wrote on my previous reviews is that I believe books should have trigger warning the same as TV shows and films. My warnings for this book has animal abuse and child abuse (both brief and not graphic) and mental health issues. I generally try to avoid books where either animals or children are harmed so would always like to know this in advance.
On to the story, I felt it dragged slightly leading up to the family finding shelter at the cabin, I wasn't sure if I would continue as it was just too descriptive walking through the ice cold woods but I'm glad I persisted because the pace certainly ramped up some speed.
One particular twist was amazing and despite this poor family probably traumatised for life it had a really sweet ending.
Definitely worth a read, thank you #NetGalley for the copy of #TheGirlsInTheCabin

3.5 rounded up for this fast paced thriller. It has dual timelines and multiple POVs (both of which I enjoy when done well), an ominous isolated setting, low level tension building through the whole book, and a twist I didn’t see coming. There’s some timeline issues (Billy should have been born in 1997, but in 2022 Clara says he’s 20) but it’s overall a solid, quick, creepy read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy and a chance to read this early. All opinions are my own.

What did I just read?! That book was crazy, in a good way.

Chris and his daughters get stuck in a snow storm injured, cold, alone, in the mountains of Colorado. Chris needs to find help, and sees a beacon of hope with a cabin in the woods. But, boy, was he in for a surprise.

This book had suspense, drama, emotion....I would definitely recommend this to anyone who like thriller and suspense.

Chris and his two daughters go across country to go camping in the mountains where his wife always wanted to go but he was always too busy to take the trip with her. Now that she's been gone for only six months he wants to bond again with his girls to right the wrongs he had done in the past. Kayla, a fifteen year old will barely talk to him without anger in her voice because she will never forgive him for what he did and Little Emma has not spoken a word since the day her mom passed away. Chris loves his daughters dearly and hopes this trip will bond them together in a new way of hopefully starting over and becoming the family that his wife had always wanted.

Now, an unexpected blizzard in the mountains while Emma has broken her leg with other damage make getting back to their car impossible as they have lost their way and they walk for hours with Chris carrying unconscious Emma with only snow, wind and trees surrounding them at every step. Without shelter soon they will succumb to the elements and it will be all Chris's fault and he hates himself for thinking he could make things right with Kayla when now she will never understand his love for all of them.

Finally, lips and fingers blue, teeth chattering, non-stop shivering with the freezing cold they come upon an old cabin with a light in the window. A woman named Clara lives here with her mentally disabled son named Billy and Chris his so thankful for her kindness so he finally can get Emma to the hospital but naturally the phone doesn't work due to the snowstorm so Clara expertly patches up Emma's leg so she will be in less pain although Kayla seems suspicious and a nervous, frozen wreck. They sense something wrong yet Clara is so kind and and generous to them that they feel guilty for thinking any negative thoughts but who are these people that live in the middle of nowhere in this odd cabin with signs of hoarding in every room while they wear the strangest clothing that doesn't fit them properly yet their host is so very gentle, intelligent and welcoming yet Chris and Kayla know something is very wrong but what other choice do they have. Before long this family will discover their nightmare is only just beginning since Clara has dangerous secrets from her past and before long Chris will be fighting to save.all their lives from an unknown presence who only wants Clara to themselves even if her death and theirs must be the final outcome.

What in the crazy world has happened? This nightmare can't be real because this is stuff that can ony be found in a horror movie!

This book had everything, tension, mystery, suspense, horror, chilling details of murder, secrets, pain suffering and more.
I just enjoyed this book so much! The writing and the storytelling were so captivating and creepy that I couldn't turn the pages fast enough while being entertained with each chilling chapter. All the characters were amazing with their detailed descriptions and prior life history. By the end of the book every question I had was finally answered and the story also had an unexpected satisfying ending as well. Some may find the book predictable but I certainly did not! There was one particular, fantastic twist where my eyes bugged out and my jaw just dropped open and I sad "Wow, Wow, Wow!". I just love when that happens! This was my first book by Caleb Stephens and now I'm a fan and can't wait to read more of his books.

I highly recommend this book to all dark mystery/thriller and horror readers!

This camping trip is Chris' last attempt at some bonding with his two girls. Their mom, his wife, recently died of cancer, she was the one who liked hiking. The girls aren't happy about going hiking and Kayla isn't allowed to have her cell phone with her. Kayla has no respect for her father after what he has done and looks for an excuse to wonder off. Emma, the youngest also wanders off but falls in a ravine and a boulder falls on her foot, breaking multiple bones. A freak snow storm leaves them stranded and lost with a very hurt child. They find a remote cabin with a woman named Clare. Clare isn't what she seems and although she tries to help them, things go terribly wrong.

The story line is haunting and suspenseful with some twists I didn;t see coming. Told in alternating perspectives, the story is well constructed and leads to satisfying ending. But, hold on, this will take you on a fast ride as Chris will do anything to get his children to safety!

The Girls in the Cabin by Caleb Stephens was a very enjoyable book that will have you gripped from the very beginning till the end, especially as it was full of good twists and turns throughout.
Nothing has been the same since Kayla and Emma's mum died and Chris their dad is trying his hardest to make things better for everyone. So a camping trip planned and it's the last time Chris can do to repair his relationship between his two daughters them. But, as soon as they get to the mountains everything goes wrong!

They make camp, and nine-year-old Emma runs off into the woods. By the time they find her, there’s a snowstorm rolling in and it's coming in fast. Emma’s leg is badly broken. They need to find shelter, fast. All the roads around them are blocked, They come across a wooden cabin and the owner, a woman invites them all in, everything seems fine. However, she is hiding a terrible secret.........

They all think they are safe. Emma's leg is strapped by the woman and they will all be able to venture out when the storm eases.

As they settle down for the night Chris wakes to find Emma gone!
Panic strikes and Chris will do anything for his girls especially to keep them safe from harm!

Chris and his family’s nightmare is only just beginning.

Will they survive the night and get back to their camp?

Wow This book is So good I ended up being glued to my kindle until I finished it. Great holiday read but maybe not a camping Holiday lol

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was a good but bizarre book. Some bizarre characters (Clara’s son) and back and forth timelines.
I wasn’t too sure what to expect as I started the book where Chris was at the end of a camping trip with his daughters when Emma got injured and a sudden storm started.
Unbelievable at many times but still held my interest, I enjoyed it.

Never think that your life can’t get any worse.
THE GIRLS IN THE CABIN by @calebstephensauthor from @joffebooks -out June 8
Chris and his family sure felt like things couldn’t get any worse when he took his two daughters out hiking. He was just trying to pull his remaining family together when he found out that good intentions rarely go unpunished.

This was one of those books that was so good, I didn’t want to pick it up and read. These people had all been through so much and I knew their troubles were just beginning. However once I got to the halfway point, there was no stopping me. I had a bad case of “just one chapter more” until late into the night.
The Girls in the Cabin was such a compelling, panic inducing thriller. I bit all my fingernails down to nubs and the final words left me choked up and teary eyed.
I really needed a big hug.

A disturbing and intoxicating take of redemption and atonement…What a book!!!

Oh my gosh this is such a good book. I loved every chapter and every page. Picked purely on reader recommendations I couldn’t have landed a better read.

Told from multiple POVs this book is complex yet thorough. It starts with an absolute BAMM and just gets better and better.

For those of you who have weaker tummies beware, Caleb does not hold back. This is graphically gory but not overly sensationalist. The writing is totally spellbinding and dark. Reading a fiction that feels like a reality. At the end I was a total snotty mess of tears and joy… not a common ending for crime fiction novels.

I love, love, loved it! And highly recommend this book to anyone wondering if they should/shouldn’t give it a whirl. I did and it was a winner.

Will definitely be checking out his previous novels and an eye out for his next!

The camping trip is Chris's last chance to keep his family together. His wife is gone and, after what he did, his daughters aren't speaking to him. But things go wrong as soon as they get to the mountains. Kalya is still so pissed at him, and Emma runs into the woods. By the time they find her, she's broken her ankle and there's a bad storm rolling in. They need shelter fast. They think they've found sanctuary when they come across an old farmstead. The woman inside welcomes them in out of the howling blizzard and straps up Emma's ankle. But the phone lines are down. The roads are blocked. And the woman in the cabin is not what she seems....

The storyline feels quite haunting. I was hooked from the first page. The pace is steady and there's some really good twists. Chris will do anything to protect his daughters. The story goes from one disaster to the next. There are some brutal but well written scenes. This is an engaging quick read that held my attention throughout.
