Dark and twisted. Superstitious Naomi moves into a house with her husband and two young children despite sensing evil lurking in every shadow. This isn't a paranormal book, but the past certainly hasn't settled and the house seems haunted by what transpired to the people who had lived there.

Naomi knows none of the home's history, but she's seeing a lot of things as bad omens. When a neighbor lady befriends her, she starts talking to her about her husband saying he's not necessarily the person she thinks she is. But is this woman simply jealous, having a history of picking the wrong men for herself? After all, Naomi is married and expecting her third child.

Naomi starts to learn pieces of the past, but isn't sure what to make of them or even what to believe. Adding further to her concerns and anxiety is an older woman who seems to always be hanging around. Who is she and what does she want?

While Naomi desperately wishes she never moved into 13 Trowan Crescent it's far too late, and there's no going back in time. Her Husband's House is a chilly domestic suspense, proving that the past doesn't always stay there.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced reading copy.

Ben promises his wife, Naomi a fresh start when they move into their new house. Although he’s been distant for months, Naomi is hopefully this is exactly what heir family needs. When they meet the neighbours, Naomi is thrilled to have a new mom friend, but she quickly notices her husbands face looks angry. Although he denies it, Naomi struggles to find what her husband is hiding as her family crumbles.

Great read! I was hooked from the beginning.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'My Husband's House' by Sheryl Browne.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Sheryl Browne, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 5th June 2023.

This is the sixth book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'My Husbands Girlfriend', 'Her First Child' 'The Invite', 'Do I Know You?' and 'The Liar's Child' and would highly recommend them all!!

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'If you enjoyed reading The Housemaid, The Perfect Marriage and The Wife, you will love My Husband’s House.Gripping and totally addictive, you’ll be hooked from the first page.' I am a huge fan of 'The Housemaid'' and 'The Wife' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Sheryl and if this is half as good as 'My Husband's Girlfriend', 'The Invite', 'Do I Really Know You?', 'Her First Child ' and 'The Liar's Child' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists a prologue, 71 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in the UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.

This book is written in a mix of third and first person perspective and the protagonists are Naomi Felton, Joan, Sara, Ben Felton and Lily. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are, as long as they are well written, it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything. To have the benefit of both first and third person perspective ensures you don't miss out on anything.

'My Husband's House' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Sheryl discusses miscarriage.

Wow!!! What did I just read!!! What twists and a half fairplay, I most certainly was NOT expecting any of that!!! Anyway, we shall return to that!!! This book is extremely well written and completely drew me in from start to end. The synopsis, title and cover worked perfectly with the storyline.

Yet another absolutely addictive psychological thriller by this absolutely incredible author!!!

The storyline was extremely compelling and I was completely addicted from the beginning starting with a prologue putting my heart in my throat to absolutely explosive ending!!! I started it this morning and finished it in a day!! It was filled with mysteries, drama, friendship, crime, secrets, cover ups, twists, lies and surprises and and had me completely absorbed throughout. This book ticked absolutely every single box!!! It was filled with suspense, lies, romance, twists, heartbreak, deceit and shocks!! It had me on tenterhooks on the edge of my seat and biting my nails to get to the truth. I absolutely loved how it completely shocked me at the end!! There's not much worse in a book than when you have already figured out what is going on by 50%!! This book is told from multiple perspectives which gives the reader a huge insight into what is going on and how the different characters are feeling without giving too much away and Sheryl weaves the different chapters told by the different characters together perfectly at just the right times. It really is one of those books that I kept telling myself one more chapter as I was walking around with the kindle glued to my hand but each and every time the chapter ended in a way that there was no chance I could end there so I just had to read another and another until I completely devoured it in one sitting in the end!!! The storyline is multilayered, multigenerational, creepy, dark, twisty, complex, suspense rammed and just seriously everything you could ask for when looking for a show stopper!!! It starts of with the tragic story of a family torn apart with 9 year old Holly disappearing and her father committing suicide. Ben, Naomi, Liam and Maya move into home 20 years later and Naomi and Ben are expecting their son to be born not long after they have moved in. The home has been abandoned for 20 years and is filled with creaky doors, a tattered teddy and a ghostly rocking chair. Ben is working in his new job, Liam and Maya have started a new school and Naomi gets to know the neighbours Sara, her partner Paul and Sara's children James and Ellie. She also meets her other neighbour Joan. However, Sara, Paul and Joan seem to take an instant dislike to Ben and then strange things start happening which leads to tragedy. Why is everyone against Ben? Is Ben hiding something from his past? Why does Paul never talk about his ex wife and daughter? Who is the strange woman having around the park and then the school? Grab your copy now to find out the reasons to all of these questions and more in this fantastic page turner!!!
This book is not only an epic psychological thriller filled with twists and turns that I would have never expected all the way to the end but it is also quite sad and heartbreaking at times and it definitely makes you question why certain people didn't get the help they needed sooner. It also ends in a very thought provoking way leaving the reader to think and talk about it long after they have finished reading the book which is definitely a sign of an amazing author and an addictive successful book!!! In this book Sheryl discusses very important subjects that include miscarriage, mental health and Gaslighting and manages to weave them all into an addictive, realistic and emotional storyline. A huge well down to you Sheryl you should be extremely proud of yourself!! I would love to see this book turned into what would promise to be a massive hit movie!!

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

Absolutely addictive, unputdownable and most definitely EXPLOSIVE!!!

The characters were vivid, realistic, unique and very compelling. Throughout the book I liked, disliked and questioned most of the main characters unsure of who was to blame and who was doing what wrong and right. After I had done all that I was still wrong!!! Throughout the book I flicked from feeling sorry for either Naomi, Lily, Sara and Joan and then by the next chapter I thought that some of the characters seriously needed help or were just horrific. I became suspect of them all. This really is one of those books who you really have no idea who to trust and because I have finished the book I have different feelings on some of them so I won't say anymore as I don't want to risk dropping any hints that may spoil the storyline for future readers. However I do want to say a HUGE Well done Sheryl!!! Sheryl has created the perfect eclectic mix of strong and realistic characters came together to make this book a real page turner!!! Each of them played their parts perfectly and Sheryl's evocative writing skills really did bring each one of them to lore!!!

Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the prologue and first two chapters of Sheryl's 'The Affair' which promises to be just as addictive as this book and I cannot wait to get stuck into it!!!

This book would make a truly captivating movie which I would love to see and I am definitely looking forward to reading more books by Sheryl. Congratulations Sheryl on yet another amazing read!!! Here's to your next success 🥂

This is exactly why Sheryl is one of my favourite authors. I love every book yet she still manages to make them better and better which is not an easy feat!!

Overall a page turning, gripping and addictive psychological thriller that will shock you at times and break your heart on others!!

Genres covered in this novel include Crime, Thriller And Mystery Adventures, Women's Psychological Fiction, Thriller, Mystery, Suspense, Women's Popular Fiction, Psychological Thriller, Literary Fiction, Suspense Thriller, Psychological Literary Fiction, Psychological Fiction, Contemporary Fiction, Psychological Theiler, Noir Fiction, Womens Psychological, Domestic Thriller, Thriller, Mystery ,Thriller & Suspense Literary Fiction, Romantic Suspense, Psychological Suspense, Domestic Fiction, Domestic Thriller and Thriller amongst others.

Ben and Naomi are looking for their dream house. Buying a property with a dark past will soon put them on edge and questioning everyone.

This was a heart-pounding psychological thriller that had me up most of the night as I couldn’t put it down. This author gives us short chapters to increase the pace and a narrative which is intense.

Browne gives us characters whom we question if we can trust and a thrill with every page. I loved this narrative that constantly had me guessing and giving me a slight chill up my spine.

This is an author I will be looking out for again.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for giving me an ARC to review!

2 stars!

I sadly didn’t like this as much as I thought it I would. But the story is well written for a thriller and really keeps you guessing as a reader. I felt like, for me, I kind of guessed some things that were meant to be twists but despite this, it was an interesting read, but I just sadly didn’t love it.

I'm never disappointed when I read a book by Browne, she knows how to pull you in from the very first page. There are so many layers that needed peeling back to reveal the secrets being concealed, and when they did, wow! Although I'd (for once) sussed out two of the main twists, I had no idea that was coming at the end.

What is the connection Ben has with their new neighbours partner and who is the strange lady who thinks she lives in their new home?

My Husband's House is an addictive psychological thriller that's fast paced, suspenseful and well plotted.

I read it in less than twenty four hours as I couldn't put it down.

My Husband’s House is a tense and gripping psychological thriller that will have you completely engrossed right from the very beginning. A read that is full of twists and turns and as you read this book you will be at times left gasping for breath as you wonder what’s going to happen next. With characters that you won’t know who to trust or who is genuine. A twisty and fast paced thriller that I loved.

Pregnant and ready for for a fresh start, Naomi moves into her new home with her two children and husband, Ben. It needs a but of work, but it has plenty of space and a lovely garden, perfect for her growing family. But then Naomi finds out about the dark history of the house and suddenly it doesn't seem so perfect. Why had the house stood empty for so long? Why do the neighbours seem to so intensely dislike her husband when they don't even know him? Naomi is about to find out that secrets from the past always come to light and the truth isn't too far from her home...

I really enjoyed this book and it's tangled narrative. The main character Naomi is a character I felt was easy to like and empathise with. The book begins with a flashback and the narrative works towards the truth of this scene through the book. The uneasiness around the house and her husband is created through drip-feeding of hints through out and it keeps you guessing until the end.

Wow! What a ride! This is an intense, gripping, thrilling read. I love psychological thrillers, and this book pulled out all the stops! The writing is fast paced – I flew through the book. It is so entertaining that you won’t want to put it down. I enjoyed Naomi, the FMC. She was likeable and you could just tell how much she loved her children and her family. Browne does a great job at making everyone suspicious but not revealing anything too early. The twists in this book were true surprises. This book is a must read for anyone that is a fan of the genre. Browne has made me a true fan with her work! This is available now, so really, do yourself a favor, and go get this book!

I have a little PSA for all you book loving folks

RUN do not walk to your nearest bookstore and purchase My Husband's House!

This book was absolutely breathtaking !

I don't think I knew what I was getting involved in when I began. I was instantly plunged into a ride of a lifetime. My heart was in my throat the entire time and quite a few times I gasped out loud. Noticeable enough that I drew some attention while waiting (and reading) in the DMV (oops!).

You might think you know where this book is heading but then you are thrown for a twist you will never see coming.

This book is also FREE on kindle unlimited! No excuses now!

Teaser:

A new home. A loving wife. A secret that could kill…

With its peeling wallpaper and overgrown garden I know our new home isn’t perfect. But my husband Ben promises it’s the fresh start we need. I remind myself that he’s an amazing father to our two children, and that we have years of happy marriage behind us. He’s been distant for months but I’m desperate to believe the move will bring us back together.

When I meet our next-door neighbour Sara, I’m immediately relieved. She’s so welcoming and full of local gossip. But the moment she meets Ben I’m sure an angry frown flickers across her smiling face. Later he says I’m imagining things…

Why is my husband lying?

Then one night as I tuck our children into bed, the silence is broken by a knock on the front door. A stranger is standing on our doorstep. I turn to look at Ben’s face as he stares at her with unconcealed fury. Has he met this woman before? Nothing could prepare me for what she says:I know who you are. Get out of my house.

How well do I know the man I married? And by moving to this house, did I put my children’s lives in danger?

My Husband’s House is another decent psychological thriller from Sheryl Browne.
Ben and Naomi are trying to find a house to buy for them and their two children, they fall upon a run down house close to a reservoir that hasn’t been lived in for years. The house needs updating and all that is in it is a rocking chair and an old fluffy toy. Naomi’s grandad taught her to be wary of certain things so the rocking chair goes straight in the shed. They are the first people to move into the house after the nine year old girl, Holly, went missing twenty years ago and her father found hanged in the tree in the garden told via an elderly neighbour. Naomi instantly gets on with her new neighbour, Sara, but she takes an instant dislike to Ben and Naomi has no idea why. Notes are put through Naomi and Bens door, warnings from neighbours and then a homeless woman turns up on the doorstep calling Ben by a different name. Who is Ben and what links him to this woman?
This was an eerie read that I enjoyed. I read it over a couple of days and found it to be easy to pick up and leave with the short chapters. The storyline was good although if I’m honest it’s not my favourite by this author but still enjoyable and would recommend.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

Gripping, twist filled and full of tension, My Husband's Houseis a taunt psychological thriller that kept me turning the pages wanting to know more. Secrets and lies are the name of the game in this shocking book.

Ben has convinced Naomi that moving to a new home is just what they need! They have two young children and a baby on the way. Sure, this home isn't perfect. It has peeling wallpaper and an overgrown yard, but it has been vacant for some time. A little TLC is all it needs.

Naomi is happy to meet Sara, her next-door neighbor. They have become instant friends, but Sara's face loses its welcoming smile when she meets Ben. She is not the only one who doesn't appear overjoyed to meet him. Then late one night there is a knock at the door....

I loved trying to figure out who could be trusted in this book. There are a lot of characters, and many appear to have secrets. How well do we really know the people in our lives? This was a juicy mystery that kept me on my toes the entire book. I found this book to be riveting and did not want to put it down.

There is a nice amount of tension and dread throughout the book. The old home with the peeling wallpaper and creepy shed provided atmosphere and set a chilling vibe. I enjoyed the various POV's and how everything played out. This was a well written and well thought out book.

Sheryl Browne delivers every time, and this book was shocking, intense, dark, gripping, and full of twists. Just the way I like my psychological thrillers.

Gripping, tense, shocking and captivating!

Omg! Sheryl Browne knocks it out of the park again! What a creepfest! This was dark and delicious with so many twists, turns and reveals that I might have whiplash. Another great page turner that kept me up past my bedtime. And the characters were fantastic. Highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley , Sheryl Browne and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book.

My Husband's House is about how one simple lie - or perhaps not even a lie, just an omission - that may seem harmless and indeed be told out of necessity, can go on to shape the lives of yourself and others. And how different things could have been if just one person had done something differently a bit earlier.

As the mother of two young children with a third on the way, Naomi has a lot on her plate. So she initially accepts her husband Ben's explanation that the family have had to move to a new home due to his work. But it isn't long before the questions start to form in her mind. Why, at the first sight of Ben, does their new, friendly neighbour Sara appear to express an angry frown and her partner Paul appear to regard him with open hatred? Why does Ben so strongly deny this and yet, almost at the same time, try to warn Naomi to keep their children away from Paul? And are those late night walks he takes, supposedly to clear his head, really as innocent as Naomi had always thought?

I'll be honest. The beginning of the book felt a little confused. Two of the opening nine chapters featured unexplained happenings in an old house, which briefly caused me to wonder whether I was actually going to be reading a ghost story instead of the promised psychological thriller. However, from about Chapter 10 onwards the book seemed to find its stride, the story started to flow and from there on, I remained firmly glued to my kindle. The book effortlessly switched between multiple narrators and present and past timelines - I've said previously that no-one can do this quite as well as Lisa Jewell, but Sheryl Browne has now proved that there is at least one other author who can - with many paragraphs featuring ordinary, everyday things. Ordering pizza. Looking at yourself in the mirror. Breaking up an argument between your children. In another book, by another author these could be distracting. Here - and I honestly have no idea why, or how - they have the opposite effect. They draw you in. They help you relate to each character. So that when the bigger issues are introduced, they hit the reader like a punch in the gut.

To avoid spoilers, I'll refrain from saying what all of the issues raised are, but I have to mention that they include the loss of a child. Sheryl has bravely admitted to me that this is a subject close to her heart, and I think it shows. The writing here is powerful and poignant, yet sensitive and almost beautiful, and I could almost feel my heart break for the character in question.

The plot in this book isn't one that appears to be going in one direction, only to be turned on its head by a sudden and violent twist. It follows the more subtle route that I think I prefer; that of changing my mind almost constantly through a series of smaller findings, utterances and revelations. The tension builds up masterfully right through to an ending that is deliberately uncertain. The reader is offered one solution, but can easily imagine alternatives. By coincidence, it's not dissimilar to the way Casey Kelleher ends her latest novel, The Baby Sitter's Secret and it works wonderfully in both books.

But if the ending of My Husband's House served to remind me of Casey Kelleher - which, for the avoidance of doubt, is absolutely no bad thing - the epilogue felt reminiscent of Can You See Her? by S E Lynes. However, to make this out as a criticism would be mad. It would be like hearing a new singer for the first time and saying he sounded a bit too like Frank Sinatra.

The only minor criticism I would give is that I wondered whether more could have been made of the character of Sara. Don't get me wrong, she's wonderful. But she didn't seem to be as significant to the main story as I thought she was going to be.

My summary and conclusion, then, is this. There are a few bits of My Husband's House that aren't quite perfect. But the parts that work well - which, frankly, equate to most of the book - are absolutely fantastic. I loved it.

Look at it this way. I know full well that my dog - beautiful though she is - is never going to win any prizes at Crufts. But there is nothing on earth that could persuade me to swop her for one that would.

My thanks to Bookouture for my inclusion on the blog tour, and to the author and Netgalley for the digital ARC.

Twenty years ago, 9-year-old Holly Grant went missing and later her father, Michael, was found hanging from a tree. Holly was never found.

Naomi and Ben Felton are looking at an old house to buy a house located near a reservoir. No one has lived there in many years so it needs updating. Naomi’s grandfather had been quite superstitious and Naomi can’t help but have some creepy feelings about the house. But they decide to get the house and move in. Naomi is expecting a baby to join their other two children, Liam and Maya. Ben is a clinical photographer.

Sara lives next door with her two children that are near the same ages of Liam and Maya. Her boyfriend, Paul, lives with her.

Joan is an elderly woman who lives nearby and has been there for many years. She remembers when Holly went missing and then the house sat empty for a long time.

As the two couples get to know one another, there is a lot of tension between the men. Sara and Naomi become friends but seem to get into silly arguments. When Naomi is injured devastatingly, life gets difficult for all. There are some scary happenings and they wonder what really happened in that house all those years ago.

I was rather torn as to my feelings about this story as I read it. I was skeptical of how quickly Naomi and Sara seemed to get into silly arguments. If Ben and Paul knew each other before, why was it hidden? Sorry, if that is a spoiler but it strange. An OK read though so enjoy.
